October 17, 18, 24 and 25, 7:30 p.m. October 19 and 26, 2 p.m. The Armory at Brighton Cultural Center 300 Strong Street, Brighton, CO 80601 Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play and an Academy Award-winning film; by Alfred Uhry and directed by Kelly Van Oosbree. Driving Miss Daisy is a warm-hearted, humorous, and affecting study of an unlikely relationship. Set in the deep south in 1948, just prior to the civil rights movement, Daisy Werthan, a rich, sharp-tongued Jewish widow has demolished another car and her son, Broolie, informs his mother that she must rely on the services of a chauffeur. The person he hires for the job is a thoughtful, unemployed black man, Hoke, whom Miss Daisy immediately regards with disdain and who, in turn, is not impressed with his employer’s
patronizing tone and, he believes, her latent prejudice. But, in a series of absorbing scenes spanning 25 years, the dignified, good-natured Hoke breaks down the stern defenses and they become friends. They come to realize they have more in common than they ever believed possible—and that times and circumstances would allow. Admission: adults $15 online, $17 at door; children under 12 and seniors 60+ $15 at door. Tickets can be purchased online at www. plattevalleyplayers. org. WONDERBOUND
