Introduction

These are our brand guidelines, which explain how to use our new visual identity with confidence and clarity. Our guidelines have been designed to ensure consistency throughout our brand helping to create a framework based on effective and recognisable communication. These booklets are designed to help you conform to the Arkitekt rules and regulations but also allow you the freedom to be creative.

Production

The recommended guidelines for printing and production of the magazine should be followed closely for maximum quality and cohesion between each issue, The Magazine should be printed via offset lithography. The paper stock for the front cover should be no less than 200gsm with laminated finish. The inside spreads should be printed on 80gsm with a silk/satin paper finish. The whole magazine has to be perfect bound due to the number of pages in each issue. To maximise print Quality please contact your printer and take extra care with preflight checks, as mistakes can be costly.

Binding

Binding describes how the folded sheets are joined together. This can be by a stapling process known as saddle stitching, or by perfect binding Perfect binding 1. The pages are clamped and trimmed. 2. Glue is applied to the cut edge 3. The cover is pressed into place 4. When the glue has set the clamp is removed

Imposition

Once the job of designing the spreads has been done the spreads must be imposed onto the sheet. As most commercial presses only print on one side of the sheet at a time the paper must be turned and placed back through the plate a second time to allow the reverse side to be printed. In order to ensure consistent pagination through this process the individual spreads must be arranged on the sheet in a specific order and orientation, this process is called imposition. Above is an example of a 16 page document that has been imposed so that the pages will back up correctly.
