Limitations of cone beam imaging Applications and interpretation of cone beam imaging
Dr Louise Brown Dental imaging is an essential part of everyday dental practice, contributing greatly to the diagnosis of common and uncommon diseases that present daily. This lecture will provide an update of dosimetry involved in intraoral and extraoral dental radiology, and provide a systematic approach to viewing radiographic images.
Professor Paul Monsour Panoramic radiography is still the initial extraoral imaging modality of choice in dentistry. Panoramic radiographs are among the most difficult radiographs to take well and interpretation is problematic due to considerable distortion as a result of poor technique. The use of cone beam imaging is exploding exponentially around the globe, but the theory of cone beam imaging is often poorly understood. Using a series of Powerpoint presentations, the theory and interpretation of panoramic radiography and cone beam data sets will be covered in detail. At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
appreciate the biological affects of ionising radiation and demonstrate skills that delegates will be able to use in everyday understand the concepts of justification and the optimisation when choosing between the available modes of dental imaging
develop a systematic approach to viewing and interpreting dental images
practice of interpretation of panoramic radiographs
know when cone beam imaging is indicated, have a method for assessing cone beam data sets and demonstrate better skills for interpreting cone beam data sets.
better understand the theory of panoramic radiography and cone beam imaging
