In the shoes of a regulator BRIEF This is an opportunity for insight in to the types of cases that are notified to AHPRA and the decision making process. The session will commence with an outline of the AHRPA process and the possible outcomes. Participants will be asked to review actual case scenario’s from the perspective of the Board. The discussions will be facilitated with the help of representatives of the Risk team at Guild Insurance, and the ADAVB.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will have:
a deeper understanding of the process of a complaint to AHPRA a deeper understanding of the standard of care for professionals within the regulatory framework
a deeper understanding of the high standard that exists for documentation and record keeping a deeper understanding of the standards that exist for obtaining consent
PRESENTERS Ms Kellie Dell’Oro (Principal of Meridian Lawyers) has acted for Guild Insurance, ADA and its members for many years, as well as other health practitioners. Kellie assists health practitioners with medical malpractice claims, and for years, has provided advice in respect of compliance, disciplinary , coronial and health fund matters. One of the highlights of her career was working closely with stakeholders to persuade the Commonwealth Government not to recover payments made to dentists under the EPC Scheme. Kellie is deeply involved in training and improvement across the healthcare industry. She has co authored books on law for health professionals and developed risk management training programs and legislative compliance registers specific to the health care industry. Kellie combines deep legal knowledge with a passion for helping others. Kellie was recognised in the 2016 and 217 edition of Best Lawyers for her expertise in professional indemnity Insurance Law.
Ms Christie Boucher has more than 15 years experience as an educator having started her career as a secondary school health and physical education teacher. Over the past 10 years Christie’s career has been focused on developing risk management education resources and programs for various professionals. Christie has a keen interest in the role education can play in managing risk by raising awareness and changing behaviour.
Dr Diana Evans (ADAVB CRO) has served as a Dental Officer in the Navy for 7 years, during which time she gained her Fellowship in the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. She has been involved in the Vic Branch of the ADA - serving a term as Councillor and is now a Community Relations Officer.
