Relative Analgesia BRIEF This course will enable participants to become proficient and confident in the administration of nitrous oxide in clinical practice. Approved by the Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology (ASDA), the course provides an introduction to dental relative analgesia (RA). It is also an excellent refresher for dentists wishing to update their theory and practical skills in the delivery of RA. Participants will be given the opportunity to administer nitrous oxide-oxygen sedation to each other, and to experience themselves the effects of the gases in a safe environment.
LEARNING OUTCOMES At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
understand the legal requirements to use RA
use RA properly
understand why to use RA instead of other oral sedation
appropriately bill for RA procedures
TOPICS AND PRESENTER Practical application of the use of RA on patients
Appropriate maintenance and sterilisation of equipment
Usage of RA armamentarium
Indications and contra-indications of relative analgesia
Dr Angelo Preketes (NSW) is the Secretary for Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology and sits on the ADA’s Dental Practice Committee. He is currently teaching the University of Sydney Bachelor of Dentistry students at Westmead Hospital in managing medical emergencies. He is in private practice focusing on providing pain management techniques to deal with phobic, anxious patients as well as implant and general dentistry.
