Dental dilemmas and debilitated dentitions Minimally invasive approaches to the restoration and preservation of teeth for the longer life of patients

BRIEF This lecture will focus on the preservation and restoration of tooth structure, and how to help patients retain, and where necessary, restore their teeth to ensure an ongoing healthy, functional and aesthetic dentition. Clinical cases will show both conventional and innovative techniques using adhesive restorative materials, extended use of glass-ionomer cements, fibre reinforced restorations and bridges, and the heroic rescue of the doomed dentition.

LEARNING OUTCOMES At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

PRESENTER Professor Ian Meyers OAM is the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Dental Association (Queensland) and has honorary professorial positions with UQ and JCU. Ian is a general dental practitioner who has worked in both public and private dental clinics, and he has been involved with The University of Queensland for more than two decades. He is a product consultant to a range of dental companies, a member of the International Association for Dental Research, Board member of the RACDS and the ICD, and a member of the editorial board of the Australian Dental Journal. His major interests include adhesive restorative dental materials, diagnosis and management of the worn dentition, geriatric and aged care dentistry, minimum intervention dentistry, and teaching and clinical development in general practice dentistry.
