Preventing exposure to customer aggression in front line workers Safe Work Australia reports that 22 per cent of workers report being physically assaulted or threatened by patients or clients and 37 per cent of workers report being sworn or yelled at in the workplace. In Australia five years ago there were 890 claims of workplace violence and this is on the rise. 15 per cent of mental disorder claims are caused by exposure to workplace violence. Younger workers are more vulnerable than older workers.

Program outline 12.30pm Preventing exposure to customer aggression in front line workers, Di Wiseman, Occupational Therapist, Productivity Matters Productivity Matters will provide you with practical ways in which you can manage occupational violence in your practice: • Communicating intolerance to occupational violence to suppliers/patients • Presenting your practice and waiting room • Training and educating staff.
2.30pm Occupational Violence and Aggression (OVA) resources Teresa Davine, Practice Plus Consultant, ADAVB Teresa will outline the Occupational Violence & Aggression (OVA) resources she has developed for all ADAVB members including OVA incident report, OVA checklist and OVA policy template.
Di Wiseman is passionate about improving our knowledge about helping create healthy, safe productive workplaces. With over 25 years experience working in mental health both in acute and corporate settings, Di believes that increased understanding of this complex area can reduce the stigma that might be associated with mental health issues. Her specialty is bringing this to the workplace for employers, employees and customers with the acknowledgment that understanding mental health can empower everyone.
Teresa Davine has over 40 years experience in the dental industry and is a well-known and highly regarded consultant in the area of infection control. Teresa consults for ADAVB Practice Plus and has a Certificate III in Dental Assisting, a Certificate IV in Oral Health Promotion, Certificate IV Workplace Assessor and Trainer and a Certificate in Lead Auditing. Teresa consults and shares her expertise to assist practices to work efficiently and effectively within the current standards and guidelines.
