EDWARD WILSON

DISTRICT SECRETARY‐TREASURER ewilson@adcag.org

Prove Me Herewith The young girl sat across from me in my office. She was a little nervous but more concerned. After all the introductions she said, “The youth pastor told us last night that we didn’t have to believe everything you say. For example, he said, ‘I didn’t agree with something he said yesterday.’” When pressed, he refused to tell the group what he disagreed with. I had just taken the pastorate of a church that was struggling financially. While in prayer, God gave me a message series on tithing. I preached it as a three part series using the outline: The Principle of Tithing, The Procedure of Tithing, and The Promise of Tithing. The young lady’s visit came after the first message: The Principle of Tithing. During my message I stated that God’s money would be lost if not given to the proper place. I used the scrip‐ ture found in Malachi 3: 11 to prove my point, “I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes.” What a wonder‐ ful, positive promise! However, the dreadful, negative action comes when God’s hands are tied as a result of our failure to obey his word, which is to “Bring ye all the tithe into the storehouse….” Mal. 3: 10 I called the youth pastor in for a discussion. His take on my message was that God would make us sick and we would have to spend money on the doctor. I did say, “God will get his money through home repairs, car repairs, or doctor’s bills.” I didn’t, however, say He would cause havoc upon our home, our car, or make us sick. I did say we tied His hands by being disobedient. The youth pastor was one of those positive confessing believers. I also confess positive things, but I also real‐ ize I have to be obedient to God’s commands. I confess I am going to Heaven, but my going depends on my walk with God. I confess God has the power to heal, but if I fail to allow my faith to grow to believe the im‐ possible, He is limited as to what He can do through me. If I am going to prosper financially, I must first learn to give, starting with the tithe and then even more. The truth is we often blame God for things gone wrong in our lives when it can be laid at our doorstep be‐ cause we have tied His hands. Here is the promise of God from Malachi 3, “prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruit of the ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed: for you shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.” Now for the rest of the story. The people began to give, and give sacrificially. The heavy mortgage was paid and we saw the hand of God move in the lives of so many people. God was given glory throughout the city as a result of God’s blessings resting upon His church. I wish the news were as good concerning the youth pastor. He failed to receive counsel and moved on to an‐ other church within months of our discussion. He died way too young. The young girl grew into a young lady and asked me to perform her wedding. The church saw every aspect of ministry grow, souls saved, and be‐ lievers filled with the Holy Spirit.

Saying that God is able is a huge statement of faith. “And God is able” (2 Corinthians 9:8). The Apostle Paul uses the word “dynatos” here to explain that God is ABLE. This Greek word means “ability, might, power or strength” to accomplish something. God is able to save; to heal; to baptize; to deliver; to guide; and to provide. The God that we serve is ABLE to do anything and everything that He needs to do because He is “dynatos.” “Wherefore He is able to save them to the uttermost who come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25). He is ABLE to save. I remember as a freshman in college before I was saved I would pass by a fifteen-foot tall corrugated metal sign next to the highway that read, “God Saves.” It freaked me out because the other side read: Prepare to meet your maker. It seemed like every time I drove by it that it was closer to the road. I now realize that I was under conviction. I was a sinner and God’s “dynatos” was working on my behalf to set me free from my sin. I was bound by darkness, but God was ABLE to reach into my situation and set me free. The sign was one of many things the Holy Spirit did in my life to rescue me from Satan’s grip. He is ABLE to SAVE! “If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O King.” Look at the three Hebrew children in Daniel 3:17, they said it so eloquently—God is ABLE to DELIVER. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey as you read this the fact is that God is a Deliverer. The old hymn says: He brought me out of the miry clay, He set my feet on the Rock to stay; He puts a song in my soul today, A song of praise, hallelujah! The God that we serve is a DELIVERER. We can sing both joyously and victoriously the great hymn written by William A. Ogden, “He is Able to Deliver Thee”. “Tis the grandest theme through the ages rung; ’Tis the grandest theme for a mortal tongue; ’Tis the grandest theme that the world e’er sung: Our God is able to deliver thee!” Again, HE is a DELIVERER! “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). He is ABLE to HEAL. God STILL heals. Let me encourage you to claim ALL of God’s “dynatos” for your life and needs. I remember the signs: Jesus Saves – Jesus Heals. He does! He is our Healer. I close with the verse in Philippians 4:13, where Paul says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” We are ABLE through our God who is ABLE. I can’t wait until we gather at District Council 17 because God is ABLE. That’s our theme and that’s our belief. See you in April. GOD IS ABLE!

A MINISTRT TO EVERY CHURCH ….AND EVERY PERSON

SUCCESSFUL CLR 2017 A Mission of Compassion Once again, our annual Children’s Leaders Retreat was a success, and we want to thank everyone who attended. This year we felt we should give back to the area we have enjoyed for several years., and the response by our children’s pastors and others was very positive. As most Alabamians know, in recent months, the Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge area, located in Sevier County, Tennessee, suffered much damage due to wildfires that blazed out of control for days, Many homes were lost, some businesses and churches were lost. Many that were not lost had some heavy or light damage to property. Fourteen lives were lost.

God laid it on our hearts to have a “mission of compassion” . We were so honored to have a group of people with such servants hearts to participate. Tennessee Home Missionary Keith Hall, and Pastor Fatima Hays of Iglesia Cristiana Siloe AG were amazed at the amount of work accomplished in so little time.. We thank God for this opportunity to serve our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

ALABAMA RANKED 9th IN THE NATION We had another record breaking year in BGMC giving. Alabama children and churches gave $249,020.75 to BGMC. Some churches missed the year-end deadline and their offerings did not get counted for 2016! Alabama finished 9th in the nation in overall BGMC giving, and 3rd in our division (number of churches). Our

2017 goal is $250,000.00. Our 2017 Alabama Special Projects information will be in your hands soon. Thanks to everyone who works so hard to help our missionaries, and to teach our children to have generous and giving hearts. Again, thank you!

YOUTH GROUP Our twentieth annual Discipleship Weekend was held at Springville Camp and Conference Center the weekend of January 13-15, 2017. This year was a great success with attendance of approximately 550 students and leaders from across the state. Our speaker, Rod Whitlock did an outstanding job teaching our students, and challenging our youth leaders throughout the weekend. His infectious spirit and communication style connected with the audience in a profound way. In addition, the Tyler Wilson from Heartcry as well as Masters Commission from Kingwood Assembly in Alabaster led us in praise and worship and did a wonderful job of ministering to our camp and bringing us into God’s presence with music. The 22 small group sessions, led by our youth leaders across the state, gave our students several opportunities for intensive bible study. Dr. Alan Ehler, professor and Dean of the College of Christian Ministries at SEU, taught the leaders small group session and brought much insightful information to them. We also commissioned Campus Missionaries from schools all over the state. Special thanks to Jimmy Watson, who organized all of our student small groups, and to all the Deeper staff for their assistance throughout the weekend. We received many positive reports from both students and leaders on the tremendous impact this weekend has had on their lives, and look forward to hearing testimonies from our Alabama students.
