HUNTER — A Pennsylvania woman was arrested following a traffic stop Wednesday on felony charges after she was driving a suspected stolen car from Florida, Steven Nevel, public information officer for state police Troop F said on Friday. criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, Nevel said. Danko was pulled over by state police at about 2:55 p.m. Wednesday driving an Infinity QX60 on Route 23A in Hunter while talking on a cell phone, according to police. While speaking with Danko during the traffic stop, the trooper was notified the vehicle was reported stolen from Coral Gables, Florida, Nevel said. Police did not disclose how Danko obtained the vehicle.

During the stop, troopers also found Danko allegedly had Oxycodone that was not in a container or prescribed to her, Nevel said. Danko was arrested, arraigned and released on her own recognizance, pending an appearance in Town of Hunter Court on March 2. She was also ticketed for driving while using a mobile phone. ATHENS — Greene County veterans converged on the TGM American Legion Post 187 in

Athens on Thursday to learn about all of the government and nonprofit services available to them at a veterans resource fair hosted by New York state Sen. Michelle Hinchey. The senator has organized four veterans resource fairs

since last fall in the 46th district. The Athens fair on Thursday was the second in Greene County, following an event at the Cairo Public Library on Nov. 16. As the event was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday, the legion’s parking lot was already

full, necessitating street parking for the large crowd interested in gathering information on veterans’ programs. “Word is getting out,” Hinchey said. “Cairo was our See VETERANS A8

Russian attacks could spike gas prices, officials warn By Natasha Vaughn-Holdridge Columbia-Greene Media

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has local and state officials concerned about the safety of Ukranians and about its global repercussions. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine this week displaced tens of thousands Ukranians, as a response by President Joe Biden and U.S. officials called for sanctions on Russia. A local concern involving Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is its potential impact on the local price of oil. Greene County Administrator Shaun Groden on Friday stressed how oil prices may be affected by Russia’s attacks, causing already inflated gasoline prices to swell higher. “At a time when we’re moving

domestic oil production down, now [the price of] oil is going to skyrocket,” Groden said. “And the beneficiary of that is going to be Russia because they have some of the word’s largest oil reserves.” A gallon of gasoline in New York costs $3.70 on average, up nearly 40 cents from an average of $2.64 per gallon this time last year. Groden stressed the sharp increase in gas prices residents, and their wallets, have recently incurred at the pump. “When oil was at $45 a barrel, Russia was going bankrupt,” Groden said. “Now, oil is over $100 a barrel and the money [is] ch-chinging.” New York state has one of the See ATTACKS A8
