Police: 3 charged in snowmobile fight By Bill Williams Columbia-Greene Media
PALENVILLE — Three men from Greene and Ulster counties have been arrested following an investigation into a large fight on Jan. 31 in Palenville, Steven Nevel, public information officer for state police Troop F, said Thursday. The fight involved snowmobiles and residents of a cabin, and was initially reported to have included baseball bats and reports of shots being fired, according to state police. There were multiple victims in the incident, Nevel said, though police have not released the exact number of
victims and the extent of their injuries. Cody L. Edwards, 30, of Catskill, was arrested Feb. 16. Clyde J. Edwards, 53, of Catskill, and Casey Edwards, 28, of Saugerties, were both arrested Tuesday, Nevel said. All three men were charged with first-degree gang assault, a class B felony, according to state police. State police have not disclosed the relationship between the three men, or the relationship between the men and the alleged victims. ‘It’s ridiculous,’ driver says of gas prices in Greene County By Noah Eckstein Columbia-Greene Media
CATSKILL — Oil prices skyrocketed on Thursday to over $100 per barrel, in part a consequence of Russia’s unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to numerous news outlets and intelligence sources, this is the largest invasion by land, sea, and air in Europe since World War II. The ripples of which are being felt all over the world, and specifically, in Greene County where drivers are greeting gas prices with disbelief. At the Valero Energy gas
station in Catskill on Route 23, drivers and station attendees are dismayed that the price per gallon is $3.70 for unleaded gas. Joe Micelli, 62, a resident of West Athens shook his head in disbelief at the pump. “It’s ridiculous,” he said, blaming the increase of prices on President Joseph Biden’s decision to cancel the Keystone pipeline in 2021. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the cancellation of the pipeline increased U.S. gas prices. The reasons gas prices are so high is not entirely due to the escalating conflict in Ukraine. It also has to do with record high inflation rates. NOAH ECKSTEIN/COLUMBIA-GREENE MEDIA

DEC says 2021 New York hunting season safest ever By Bill Williams Columbia-Greene Media
PHOTO COURTESY OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION.
DEC reports the 2021 hunting season was the safest.
Index
The 2021 hunting season was the safest of all time, with the lowest number of huntingrelated shooting incidents since the Department of Environmental Conservation began keeping records, DEC spokesman Jeff Wernick said. In 2021, there were nine hunter-related shooting incidents. Seven of those incidents involved a hunter who accidentally shot someone else from their party. The other two of those incidents were self-inflicted, Wernick said.
One of the self-inflicted incidents occurred in Greene County on Dec. 10, when a 69-year-old man leaned a firearm against an all-terrain vehicle. The gun started to fall and the hunter reached for it and shot himself in the foot. The man had 50 years hunting experience, according to DEC records. The only hunting fatality last year was logged in Ontario County. The 61-yearold shooter discharged one round from an elevated stand, striking his hunting partner, who was tracking a deer. The
shooter had 45 years hunting experience, DEC said. Another statistic that DEC records is hunting accidents involving elevated tree stands. Ten incidents were reported in 2021, with one of those turning fatal. The fatality occurred Sept. 28 in Warren County, when a 58-year-old man went into cardiac arrest, fell from a tree stand and died from his injuries. The man had 44 years hunting experience, DEC said.
