Delgado tapped as lieutenant governor By Natasha Vaughn-Holdridge Columbia-Greene Media
ALBANY — U.S. Rep Antonio Delgado will be appointed to be New York’s next lieutenant governor Tuesday. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced she will be appointing Delgado, D-Rhinebeck, Tuesday morning. The
announcement comes after Hochul’s former Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin resigned shortly after he was indicted on federal charges related to campaign finance fraud. “I am proud to appoint Antonio Delgado, an outstanding leader and public servant, as lieutenant governor of New
York, and I look forward to working with him to usher in a new era of fairness, equity and prosperity for communities across the state,” Hochul said in a statement. “We share a belief in working together to get things done for New Yorkers, and Representative Delgado has an incredible record of doing just
that in Congress. With Antonio Delgado by my side serving as lieutenant governor, we will both make history — and make a difference.” In a Twitter post Monday afternoon, Benjamin announced he would formally remove See DELGADO A11

Cairo police seek third full-time officer
By Ted Remsnyder Columbia-Greene Media
CAIRO — The Cairo Police Department employs a small staff of two full-time officers and the agency is seeking to add a third. During the Cairo Town Board meeting Monday night, Cairo Police Sgt. Richard Bush said the department’s personnel budget would remain static at $170,114 per year if they hired a third full-time officer to replace the hours split up among nine part-timers. Bush said the town is struggling to fill all available shifts with the town’s current roster of part-time officers that all hold other jobs that will often take first priority. “That full-timer would work shifts that the part-timers would normally work,” Bush said during the meeting. “So if the
part-timers aren’t working and full-timer is, the full-timer is just getting that pay scale. We’re down to nine part-timers and all nine of them are having a really hard time these days with being available to work shifts in Cairo. They all have full-time jobs and those jobs are very demanding. “It really got rough during COVID since everybody’s shorthanded. One of our part-time guys works with state corrections and he’s getting stuck at corrections all of the time. They can pretty much tell you that you’re not leaving. So tons of shifts that he was going to work end up not covered unless me or the other full-timer covers it on overtime.” Bush said every police agency is having difficulties finding available officers in the current climate.
