It was initiated in 2008 by the ECF named after the foundation’s former President Princess Margriet who has shown enormous dedication to culture as a means of understanding and valuing Europe’s diversity. It was established in partnership with the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Princess Margriet Francisca of the Netherlands is the third daughter of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands and a younger sister of the current monarch, Queen Beatrix.

The Egg is well known with the European Commission and at various occasions President Barroso and the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy visited The Egg Brussels. Other politicians from Open VLD as well as Groen attended happenings at The Egg. More artistic were concerts of Hooverphonic and the ever presence of La Comédie de Bruxelles.

TOURISTLAB: How to innovate the tourism market.
Touristlab @ The Egg : brainstorming sessions with groups from 5 to 200 people
Addictlab, one of The Egg’s partners, has set up a dedicated research project to help innovate the tourist industry. Supported by Toerisme Vlaanderen, the Tourism department of the Flemish government, Addictlab has set up brainstorming sessions and idea generating projects in Brussels at The Egg, in Milan during the Salone del Mobile & Geneva. A selection of the apx. 4500 creative thinkers from Addictlab’s database together with people from the industry were invited to come over, think & generate ideas for new products, offerings and services.
This out-of-the-box methodology results in a database of concepts, some confidential, others published in books & presented in so called Inspiration Showers. www.touristlab.org CREATIV

Question 1 : Thème l’INNOVATION : un guide ou un soucis dans ta carrière professionnelle ? Quels sont les ingrédients qui mènent à l’innovation au sein d’une entreprise ? C’est plus qu’une orientation, c’est un credo. Quand on est dans un secteur concurrentiel, avec des acteurs internationaux de poids, comme la meeting industry, on se doit d’innover... en permanence. C’est plus qu’un ingrédient du succès, c’est une question de survie!
secteur, de connaître ceux qui compteront demain. S’ils sont satisfaits de ce point de vue, ils viennent en nombre et en qualité... C’est ce qui fait la différence pour les exposants. Nous avons un indicateur de performance: le ‘on site rebooking´ (réservation de stands pour la prochaine édition avant la clôture du salon). S’il est de l’ordre de 50%, c’est que nous avons fait du très bon travail. Question 3 : Thème BXL : Bruxelles évoque quoi pour toi ? Si la ville devait avoir un USP (unique selling proposition), quel serait-il ? Aucun secteur n’a autant de valeur ajoutée en termes d’emploi et de retombées économiques pour les villes que la ‘meeting industry’. Bruxelles est la capitale de l’Europe, un carrefour international par essence, plus neutre industriellement, économiquement et politiquement que les villes de grands pays comme la France, l’Allemagne ou le Royaume-Uni. C’est un atout considérable dans notre secteur sans parler de son accessibilité, de ses infrastructures (horeca, hotels, meeting venues) et surtout, de sa légendaire hospitalité! Il y a trop peu d’événements internationaux importants à Bruxelles aujourd’hui. Il faut exploiter cet important potentiel de croissance dans nos métiers et dans tous les services qui y sont liés (accueil, horeca, logistique...). Alain Heureux
Les principaux ingrédients qui mènent à l’innovation, outre la créativité, sont l’humilité et l’ouverture d’esprit. Il faut constamment remettre en question ce qui semble établi et réinventer ses modèles. Chez Artexis, chaque événement est suivi d’un débriefing complet. Nous analysons ce qui a été fait, capitalisons sur ce qui a été un succès et tirons les leçons des revers que nous avons pu rencontrer. Favoriser la prise de risques, tolérer l’échec et accepter - voire susciter - la contradiction sont des valeurs que nous cultivons au quotidien... As a a meeting point dedicated to creativity and innovation, The Egg will show the documentary « The Startup Kids » on 20 march 2013 (date to be confirmed). The Startup Kids is a documentary about young web entrepreneurs in the U.S. and Europe. It contains interviews with the founders of Vimeo, Soundcloud, Kiip, InDinero, Dropbox, Foodspotting and many others who talk about how they started their
company and their lives as an entrepreneur. The movie is made by two Icelandic entrepreneurs, Vala Halldorsdottir and Sesselja Vilhjalmsdottir, who founded their first company shortly after the economic collapse of Iceland and wanted to motivate other young people to become entrepreneurs. www.thestartupkids.com
