Welcome
TO THE NORTH COUNTRY ANGUS ALLIANCE
Welcome to the 5th Annual North Country Angus Alliance Production Sale! What a time to be in the cattle industry. We are excited to see new faces and grateful for past customers. A great set of bulls and females are available for your evaluation April 21st. I highly encourage everyone to come and look at this year’s offering. Cattle will be in place at the fairgrounds by 4 pm on Friday, April 19th until sale on Sunday. Coffee, soda and goodies will be available all day Saturday if you would like to come take a look at the offering. It’s an honor to work with individuals of such high integrity as Clearwater Cattle Company. We are excited to be able to add some of Gebhardt’s best spring calving cows and have high expectations for the future. I think the combination of genetics really allows a little bit of something for everyone. We pride ourselves on great customer service and stand behind these bulls and females. Any questions don’t hesitate to call. Hope to see you April 21st!
THANK YOU - JAKE THOMPSON, FOUR HILL FARMS
Greetings from Achin’ Back Acres, & welcome to the 5th annual North Country Angus Alliance production sale. During the past four years our group has always strived to provide a quality product for our customers new and old. This year’s offering will be some the best yet.
Many of you may know that my health over the past few years has forced me to sell many of my cows. However, I am still planning to remain in the cattle business and at this point I am calving a few cows and roughly 20 heifers this spring with the help of a neighbor, Travis Huot and my lovely wife Karen. You will see these fresh genetics in the near future.
This is our 23rd year of selling Angus bulls, and I believe our offering is among the best we have ever had. I have worked with Jake in the past and feel confident that all of the animals being sold as part of the NCAA sale will be of the highest quality. Several of my best spring cows were purchased by Jake, and you will see several of their bull calves in this sale.
Clearwater Cattle’s offering this year will feature eight big, stout, 20-month old virgin bulls. Because of their maturity I believe strongly in these aged bulls and what they can bring to our customers in the area of breeding strength. They are grown slowly after weaning and allowed to develop at their own pace without being pushed. I believe this will make them a stronger animal for our customer’s herds.
All bulls will have Angus GS information provided. Genomic tests can provide a snapshot, but may not provide a total picture of the animal. As always, your “up-close and personal” visual appraisal of these animals, plus talking with the breeder, is still the most important way to measure the best fit for your herd.
I’m looking forward to communicating with old friends and new customers. Please feel free to call me (218) 766-8021 if you have any questions about our bulls. I thank you for your past and future support.
THANK YOU - KEITH GEBHARDT, CLEARWATER CATTLE COMPANY

I joined MSCA, & you should too!
I am a member of the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association (MSCA), and I think you should be one too! MSCA is a membership-based organization representing Minnesota’s cattle producers. MSCA’s primary focus is addressing local, state and federal issues impacting the longterm viability of cattlemen and women in our state. When it comes to legislation impacting Minnesota cattle producers, you can count on MSCA to have your back. MSCA works on several promotional and educational activities during the year including the Summer Beef Tour, trade shows, Farmfest, MSCA Annual Cattle Convention and supports local affiliate activities.
But MSCA can’t do it alone. As a grassroots organization, our voice is amplified through membership. To continue fighting for the rights of Minnesota cattle producers, we must stand together. I am asking you to consider joining the association who advocates for our rights to operate without harmful government regulations.
Join MSCA today to ensure a viable Minnesota cattle industry now and in the future.

If you enjoy weaning heavy calves that hit the bunk and continue to be outliers, here is your guy. Impressively ranked in the top 5% of the breed for WW and YW while being in the top 15% for CW and RE, no matter your spot on the beef supply chain this guy screams return on investment. Sired by the popular Wilk’s Regiment and out of Piper’s NSF Crystal F148 Cow that took many trips to the backdrop and continues to impress us year after year, this guy has the look to boot. He comes equipped with the ability to replicate the right kind of build, look, and EPD profile to your progeny. Bid confident on his kind. Genomically ranks top 5% WW, 7% YW,8% SC, 8% CW and 6% RE.

This is our 23rd year of selling Angus bulls, and I believe our offering is among the BEST WE EVER HAD. Clearwater Cattle’s offering will feature 8 big, stout, 20-MONTH OLD VIRGIN BULLS. WOW!!! Not really sure where to begin with this bull. K77 has as much width, thickness, depth and volume as any bull I have every raised. His dam is a Payweight 1682 daughter, out of a Cowboy Up dam and a Final Answer granddam. Royally bred and he walks out like he owns the pen. BW under control and HP +17.1 top 10%. EPD’s are solid across the board. When you see him you will be impressed. He gained an average of 5 lbs. ADG on test. He’s out of a first calf heifer that ratioed 1 @ 103

Well put together herd bull prospect, solid in every category. No holes EPD profile, moderate birth, well proportioned body structure and a pedigree stacked with breed leading sires and dams. Rawhide son that is very well rounded. Great growth potential for either cows or larger framed heifers. Genomically ranks top 2% for WW and 5% HP. Born with a heifer twin, which the cow raised both, affected this calf’s weaning weight but don’t discount him for that.

This guy is a quick one to find in the pen. Phenotypic standout no doubt. Not often can you design a purebred bull with the kind of genuine mass, muscle shape, and bone that #L70 has. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the way this guy can take all that power and still have it in this attractive of a package makes him awfully unique. Sired by Sitz Accomplishment this guy will add the right kind of look and dimension into your calf crop while still generating the right kind of fault free build every cattleman is after. Genomically ranks top 5% BW, 10% CED. Dam has 3@81 lb avg for birth weight. Suitable for heifers.

With the current markets, I can’t think of a better time to cash in on the old herd bull and make the upgrade to a bull like L07. When his actual weaning weight of 772 is backed up by ranking in the top 15% of the breed for WW and YW, when pounds correlate to dollars, you’ll want this guy covering your cows. Sired by the impressive Hill Valley Reckoning and backed by a cow that continues to do her job for 9 years and counting, I don’t doubt he will last for you as well. Return on Investment opportunity is high, and no doubt this bull favors the cattle markets to come.

A GUIDE TO EPDS
EXPECTED
PROGENY DIFFERENCE (EPD) is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus.
Calving Ease Direct (CED), expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
Birth Weight (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Weaning Weight (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Yearling Weight (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires
Scrotal Circumference (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting scrotal size compared to that of other sires.
Docility (DOC), expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility in a sire’s offspring compared to another sire
Maternal Milk (Milk), expressed in pounds of calf weaned, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability in his daughters. In other words, it is the part of the calf’s weaning weight attributes to milk and mothering ability.
Heifer Pregnancy (HP), is a selection tool to increase the probability or chance of a sire’s daughters becoming pregnant as first–calf heifers during a normal breeding season. A higher EPD is the more favorable direction, and the EPD is reported in percentage units.
Marbling (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Ribeye Area (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M), expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning by decreasing mature cow size and improving docility, foot structure and fertility while maintaining weaning weights consistent with today’s production.
Beef Value ($B), expressed in dollars per carcass, represents the expected average differences in the progeny postweaning performance and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. This index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot and sell on a carcass merit grid.
Combined Value ($C), expressed in dollars per head, which includes all traits that make up both Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) and Beef Value ($B) with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and sell them on a quality-based carcass merit grid.
