Architecture is always a product of experiments towards what is suitable or not suitable, until it becomes an implementable solution for a design. Though it really is and usually comparable to art, it serves two different purpose. While art goals to express one’s perception and idea freely, architecture goals to ease human’s (society in broader range) needs. I really find myself attracted to architectural topics related to human and its perception related to spatial setting, semiotics design, and also timelessness topics in architectural design.

Concept This project tries to tell a story about Mother Mary as a special figure in the perspective of Catholic beliefs. The brief of the project, mainly purposing this gallery as educational functon for supplementing the existing spiritual building. We try to accomodate the educational purpose through narrative architecture concept. Through this narative concept, this design combines the purpose of indtroducing Mother Mary as a respected figure educationally and brings the visitor emotionally deeper to know and understand what makes Mother Mary respected as a special figure.
Design Approach Responding to the existing statue, we try to put a story of “Assumption” (as the name of the Marian Center is also Assumpta) of Mother Mary naratively through the spatial sequence. Strengthening the identity and the holiness of Mother Mary, this spaces and the architectures are designed through semiotic approach as it also brings monumentality for building context that related to spiritualism.

The design try to accomodate and create the ecosystem of locally made and potential sellable production. We try to design not only the device and facility, but also the flow of activity itself. Through the unique form we try to promote the urban farming and act as a social catalysator, and through the modular activity modules, we try accomodate the cycle of production and consumption for a more sustainable activity flow.

Fusioning economic and commercial character with more green and human friendly character at Prof. Herman Yohanes Street Yogyakarta. One that shows commercial identity is the food stalls as the “gate” of street corridor itself.
Machine dominant Messy, uncomfortable for pedestrian to walk,. Dominantly “inhabited” by vehicle.
Commercial aspect This area has a strong commercial character which also affected by the existence of “Galeria Mall”.
Active but private node A potential area as a node of activity attraction, but seems to be slum and enclosed
