COME ONE, COME ALL
WORDS Em Worthington
Delightful wines, salt-of-the-earth people, a stunning new cellar door and a bulldog named Marj — Oliver’s Taranga, you have our hearts!
AMcLaren Vale adventure with a stop at Oliver’s Taranga has always been a joy. This family-owned and run vineyard sings of a passion for hospitality and a love of wine that runs deep. They nail the region’s traditional varieties, like Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro; and they’re enticing us to sip on emerging varieties, like Fiano, Vermentino and Mencia, too. They also make quince gin, which is served with oranges or mulberries from the property… Stop. It!
Over 182 years, six generations of the Oliver family have faced challenges with a resolution to come out better, and the impact of the global pandemic has been no different. The reno It was a huge undertaking in the middle of a pandemic, but the family has swung open the doors to their new jaw-dropping cellar door, which makes you feel like you’re sitting smack-bang in the middle of the luscious 110-hectare vineyard.
“Our original cellar door was the tiny stone worker’s cottage built by our family’s first generation. It was beautiful and historic, but we could only fit four people in there. Now, we can welcome so many more. It’s only taken us 182 years to look this good!” jokes Winemaker and Director Corrina Wright.
By seamlessly merging the old with the new, the family’s vision has come to life, with a rustic recycled red brick entrance, a 10-metre tasting bench and striking expansive all-weather deck. “We want you to feel personally hosted and like part of the family when you visit; and maybe leave having learnt something new, too,” Corrina says.
Puppy love Ohh, Marj… you delightful little ball of puppiness! If all this isn’t enough to entice, wait until you’re greeted by real boss, Marj — the fam’s twelve-month-old bulldog. Melting!
DRINK: OLIVER’S TARANGA

Brush with greatness
WORDS Tory Camilleri PHOTOS Wayne Pearson
There’s something immensely satisfying about finding those little things that make a huge difference in your life.
Ugly Swan’s problem solving products were invented by homegrown entrepreneurs, Annette Short and Marissa McLoughlin, who knew we were all ready for a solution to those morning battles with the brush. They took a leap of faith and Ugly Swan launched a range of scream-free brushes that are the real deal. These brushes are incredibly gentle while perfectly detangling all types of hair. They were recommended to us years ago and we’ve never looked back.
Each of us has our fave, so let us tell you about them…
Hayley | Ugly Swan Thermal Ceramic Barrel Brush “With hair and makeup playing a huge role in my work life, I use the barrel brush the most. Particularly on those days when I need my hair to look on-point, it’s really great for getting waves and body. Plus, it glides through my ridiculously thick hair.” Lauren | Ugly Swan Baby Mermaid Brush The Baby Mermaid Brush is the latest launch for Ugly Swan and Lauren is loving it for baby Sofia. “A lot of people told me to expect challenges with brushing a baby’s hair, but Sofia loves having her hair brushed — she always smiles and giggles when we do it.”
Kristy | Ugly Swan Scream-Free Detangling Hair Brush – Wild Collection Whilst long on the scream-free bandwagon, Kristy loves the Wild collection design. “My daughter and I love the same brush, but it was getting confusing to know which one was which, so I got myself a pink Wild Flamingo so that we can tell them apart.”
Em | Ugly Swan Scream-Free Detangling Hair Brush “The Maxi brush has saved so many arguments in our house each morning. My daughter always avoided doing her hair before school, saying it hurt, but now it’s not an issue. Finding her shoes, however, that’s another story.”

Flic | Ugly Swan Scream-Free Detangling Hair Brush “I’m still surprised every time I use this brush! I’m in awe that I barely feel anything, but somehow my hair is completely detangled.”
Millie | Ugly Swan Scream-Free Palm Hair Brush “I use them all, but if I had to pick one fave it’s the palm brush. It’s small so I take it with me when I’m out and about.”
Tory | Ugly Swan Unicorn Hair Towels “My daughter and I love the microfibre hair towels! We find they fit better than any others we’ve tried, and they stay on securely so our hands are free to keep getting ready in the morning.”

A manufacturing and design studio filled with diamond rings is my version of heaven, and DDS certainly delivers. With over 200 sample designs for women, and almost 200 sample designs for men, the choices are endless. And the best part? STYLE: DDS DIAMOND DESIGN STUDIOS
Ring, ring While engagement rings and wedding bands are certainly a speciality of DDS, the world is your oyster when it comes to creating your dream piece. So, if you’ve been looking for that perfect bracelet, necklace or earrings, let DDS create exactly what your heart is set on.
A few of our favourite things Diamonds are timeless, so it’s no real surprise that some designs are always top of the pops. If you need a little inspiration, here’s some thought starters from the experts… •
“A simple solitaire diamond is still the number one design we create — it’s always fun finding ways to personalise it by creating a beautiful band to accompany a flawless diamond.” •
“Halo rings are a really special design, as the outer diamonds and the setting can completely change the look of the ring.” •
“Emerald cut diamonds are just one of the alternate shapes available, giving the ring a classic vintage feel.”
“Our designs are guided entirely by the customer — we’re here to make sure you end up with a piece that you love. The best information you can give us is a design idea and a budget, and from there, we’ll make sure to find your perfect match,” says owner Richard.
Speaking of budget, there’s no need to step outside your comfort zone or sell your firstborn for the perfect piece. “We’re proud to create quality handmade jewellery, working the gold and platinum to perfection. But if you don’t want to eat up your budget with the handmaking process, we have other options so you can spend more on the stone instead.”
You can expect a different experience at DDS, too. “As we’re a manufacturing studio instead of a shopfront, the experience is much more personal. Our studio is appointment only, so you’re guaranteed our undivided attention; and you don’t walk in and say, ‘I quite like that one,’ and then that’s it. We make sure that you adore the final result!” says Richard.
@ddsdiamonds ddsdiamonds.com.au Out with the old, in with the new If your rings are feeling a little outdated, or you’ve inherited some really special pieces that aren’t quite your style, why not opt for a remodel? The DDS team will work with you to use your stones and come up with a design that you’ll love for years to come. As Richard says, it’s a collaborative process. “We come up with ideas and then move the stones around until you’re completely happy. Often, our clients love the very first idea we present, and if not, we’ll work with them to get it right.”
STYLE: PRELOVE
WORDS Millie Looker PHOTOS Wayne Pearson We already know Prelove — and now there’s even more to love!
After opening their flagship store in the beautiful old Brighton Town Hall, Prelove’s rent-a-rack concept immediately went bananas. At Prelove, anyone and everyone has the opportunity to hire a rack and sell their clothes, finding them a brand new home. The flipside of this shiny coin is a bunch of happy customers who can wander in and pick up great pieces at bargain prices. It’s a win-win all around!
And if you still need convincing, just consider our good old earth. In a world of fast fashion, it’s nice to know that recycling high-quality pieces is helping to fight the problem and promote sustainability.
So, how does it work? SELL YOUR STUFF When was the last time you gave your closet an overhaul? If you’re squeezing dresses in your undies drawer because you’re officially out of space, then maybe it’s time to consider Prelove. It’s a great way to make some moolah off your old rags.
There are three options to choose from and it couldn’t be easier! • Price and tag – Run a medium or large rack instore yourself by adding more pieces every time you make a sale, and watch in real time as lucky buyers snap up your pieces by checking in online when you’re not there. • All inclusive – The Prelove team can help sell your items, taking on the pricing and set-up, so all you have to do is drop off the loot and then pick up your money at the end. • Luxury – You can choose to have your valuables displayed in a beautiful secured cabinet. Just make sure all items are genuine with a certificate or proof of purchase. FIND A BARGAIN You’ll feel all the warm fuzzies when shopping at Prelove because you’ll be supporting a sister from another mister, saving on retail prices AND reducing the impact on the environment. Nostalgic notes
WORDS Em Worthington PHOTOS Morgan Sette
A family holiday by the sea, a hike through the hills, camping by an open fire or a sunset with a lover — Etikette embraces nostalgia in a uniquely Australian way.
Our sense of smell can transport us back to a time or a place in an instant, bringing to life moments we’ve lived and loved before. Whether you’re sinking into a warm bath, plonking down with a good book or celebrating a clean house, the simple act of lighting an Etikette Candle can make an ordinary moment an extraordinary way of looking after yourself. Handcrafted in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, Etikette Candles hit differently with nostalgic and thoughtful candles designed with your memories in mind.
“My first ever memory is of a smell,” says Etikette Candles owner Ella Walker, who fondly recalls the scent of clover flowers under the washing line in her childhood garden. “I love that scent memories are so powerful, and fragrances can tell such delicate stories.”
The entire range of Etikette Candles and Eco Diffusers is inspired by the smells of this wild and beautiful place we call home — handmade from Australian fine fragrances and layered with notes like sassafras, wild sage and Illawarra plum. “My favourite fragrance, Otways in Bush Botanicals, smells exactly like the bushwalking track near home.”

Sustainable hearts Everything that Etikette does considers our earth — including their reusable amber glassware, which is perfect for propagating plants. Their gorgeous scents are also available in eco-reed diffusers made with a plant-based alternative to glycerine and alcohol. “It’s a gentler production and better for the environment. The diffusers aren’t flammable, so they’re great in a workplace or school and last for up to six months.”
Homegrown success When Ella started hand-pouring candles in her laundry five years ago, she never imagined it would grow so much. “From setting up trestle tables at local markets to now hand pouring over 65,000 candles in a year, I’m so proud of our amazing team. They’ve all grown with Etikette, which makes it even more meaningful. The whole thing’s been an incredible ‘pinch me’ adventure.”

WORDS Tory Camilleri
Life can be complicated enough without adding a daunting skincare regime into the mix.
There are so many conflicting versions about what your routine should look like and so many questions about what our skin needs. Thankfully, South Australian cousins and skincare aficionados Megan Potter and Mandy Hawtin banded together four years ago to take out all the guesswork for us by creating certified organic products with everything you need and nothing you don’t.
Their motto, ‘Where luxury meets sustainability’, is the foundation from which all their products are created. It means that everything they make is focused on supporting consumers with premium products that use basic and organic ingredients — perfect for a simple daily routine.
The certified organic content of their skincare range means we can trust that every link in the process has been rigorously tested for biodegradable practices, ecological sustainability, minimal processing and involves no animal cruelty, child labour or unethical practices. So basically, they’ve handled all the super important stuff for us so we can just go about our business with clean skin! In fact, the products are so free of nasties that you can actually eat them… probably won’t, though!
We know we’re in safe hands with a Megan Potter skincare routine, but what exactly does that mean, and how is it different from any other? We asked the team what’s really involved in ensuring you have a clean complexion and it’s so much easier than you think!
“Just cleanse and moisturise properly — there’s no need for anything else,” qualified beauty therapist and makeup artist Megan assures us. Step 1 – Cleanse with the Organic Gentle Cleansing Oil. Step 2 – Moisturise with an MP Organic Facial Oil or the Illuminating Hydration Serum & Cream. Optional bonus step – Spritz with a toner or facial mist after cleansing or throughout the day for extra moisture and an antioxidant boost. Voila!
It couldn’t be easier! And if you haven’t tried cleansing with an oil before, you can start by using coconut oil that you have in your pantry. They’ve even got you covered with a show-you-how tutorial on their website.
Also, if all the goodness from certified organic products is as important to you as it is to us, you’ll love the exciting new Megan Potter haircare range, too.
