Located in a small alley in Gejayan, Yogyakarta, which was once an abandoned student housing. The surrounding area radiates “homey” feel which we try to reflect in our design. We incorporate inspiration from mediterranean style architecture to achieve the desired spatial experience. Natural light and air flow are some of the aspects we pay particular attention to, by providing a main garden and private gardens to the overall program.

OPEN -NESS

CAFE & GUEST HOUSE 7

The cafe is directly connected to the main garden. The cafe is surrounded by many openings, which makes the garden visible to the occupants allowing natural air ow and light to enter. This strategy was initiated due to energy consumption and aesthetic considerations. Solid boundaries are placed in such a way so that privacy of the guest house occupants can still be maintained.

The main garden is privately accessible to the guest house occupants and can be used as communal space. Each room is also facilitated with its own private little garden.

Displayed based on categories along the alley of Department of Architecture lobby, the merchandises are placed to deliver a narration. The design itself utilizes bamboos that are composed to deďŹ ne the display area boundaries and also act as surfaces to place the merchandises. Bamboos are chosen as the main material since they compliment the surrounding area that are covered by red bricks nicely and bamboos are known to have good strength.

LIBRARY MEETING LEISURE (CAFE)

This project is related to the adaptive reusability of heritage buildings, which is BAPPENAS Office building. This project adapts to the hypothetical change of use in BAPPENAS building, which, in this case, transitioned from an office to an art gallery. M-LIB accomodates such change by providing programatical and spatial support to BAPPENAS building’s program.

M-LIB (MENTENG LIBRARY) 26

THE PROGR A M

BA P

The spatial program in M-LIB is resulted from the analysis of BAPPENAS Building’s own spatial program, configuration, and how the users usually do their activities inside the building itself. This library accomodates people to read, have discussion & meetings, and store archives. S NA PE permanent artwork

Starling (Starbucks Keliling) are mobile instant drink sellers that can easily be spotted around downtown Jakarta. Usually on their bikes, they sell their drinks to pedestrian in plastic cups. An analysis about this phenomenon was conducted to reveal people’s activities, behavior, and the relationship between people, their surroundings, and their senses through traces of coffee cups.
