DESIGN BRIEF Location: Ajegunle, Lagos, Nigeria 7.8720° N, 3.2326° E Capacity (daily): 15Tonnes Site Area: 11.11 Ha Outputs: Landfill, Plastics, Metals, Biogas and Refuse Driven Fuel (RDF)
A solid waste treatment facility is one that combines several technologies with various sorting procedures in order to separate usable resources from municipal solid waste.
As a result, the State government in collaboration with the community chiefs has proposed a solid waste treatment facility for the region. Being at a strategic location geographically, the scope of the facility is estimated to process over 15Tonnes of waste daily. This is fitting in the context of Lagos as a city that produces over 10,000Tonnes of waste annually. Thus, as a counter proposal, this design brief requires the conceptual design of a waste treatment plant that would account for the local and vernacular processes already in practice within the community and the high-technological processes from international case studies.

DESIGN BRIEF
Ajegunle, also known as AJcity, is an extremely dense settlement with over 75,500 persons per square kilometer. Expectedly, waste disposal and management is a fundamental challenge in the region. New visitors to the community are welcomed by a foul and pungent smell in the air as everyone else seems to carry on their daily life.
