AppleCity - sprouting with life city branding and strengthening of city life for Glostrup municipality
IDENTITY Apple City is the new Glostrup, that already has the potential of becoming a green commu nity.
LANDMARKS In Apple City, old (train station) and new landmarks come together in shaping the city’s identity, adding hierarchy to the space and acting as wayfinding cues.
ATTRACTIVE TRANSPORT HUB With the lightrail coming to town in 2036. Glostrup will become an even more connected city. Apple City has an attractive transport hub that encourages people to linger in the urban space, with activities that will make the city centre thrive 24/7.
BUSSINESS DEVELOPMENT An attractive transport hub also means that there is an opportu nity for bussiness to develop and join Apple City.
GREEN THREAD
The identity of a city does not just fall off trees. It should be rooted, it should have a strong character and it should be picked up and grasped easily once you enter the city. Just like an apple in a garden.
Even though there is a series of green spaces in the city centre, the city is missing hier archy and connections. Thus, a new green thread will emerge in the city, linking them togeth er.
spaces.
NEW CATEGORY OF USERS Glostrup already has a good connection with Roskilde and Copenhagen through the S-Train. This represents an opportunity in developing accomodation for students.
LIVELY, ACTIVE CITY CENTRE Glostrup is one big rooted neighbourhood with community spirit. Offering various urban activities will bring the commu nity even more together.
GOOD SPATIAL QUALITIES The urban spaces in Glostrup have nice porportions and are very cozy. Opening the facades would bring more life to these
In Glostrup we did not find this. THUS, WE CREATED APPLE CITY. We worked on how we could enhance the qualities that the city already has and create a strong core, like an apple core, that will make Glostrup flourish into a green oasis, an active and livable city.

ORCHARD Parking spaces can be transformed into public orchards to enhance the identity of the city and facilitate activities like markets and playing. It is a good way to establish a green mind-set and create a sense of belonging for the residents.
- Team of six persons - Danish architecture center & Glostrup Municipality - 2016 - 1 week IMAGINE IF GLOSTRUP WAS A CITY WHERE RESIDENTS AND VISITORS ALIKE FEEL LIKE THEY ARE WALKING THROUGH A SERIES OF GREEN OASES
IMAGINE IF THERE WAS A BRIDGE OVER THE RAILWAY, THAT WAS ACTUALLY A PARK!
PEDESTRIAN FOCUSSED CROSSINGS New crossings over Hovedvejen will encourage the citizens to explore the city center by bike or foot.
IMAGINE IF THERE WERE COMMUNITY GARDENS AND ORCHARDS WHERE YOU COULD GROW YOUR OWN PRODUCE. EVEN ON THE ROOF!
IMAGINE IF THE STREETS OPENED UP TO THE COMMUNI TY AND WOULD GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE CITY.
-
POCKET PARKS Facilitating activities will bring more life in the parks. Different spaces can be created like a BBQ-area, more seating space, grolf field etc. The edge of the park along Hovedvejen can be more defined by adding a green barrier, which will create a more included and safe atmosphere. The park entrace can be made with a welcoming gate that will signal a leisure function.
PARK BRIDGE Imagine if the bridge over railway was actually a park. This icon for the city will show the identity of Glostrup to all visitor and commuters, whether they pass Glostrup by train or have their end destination here.
COMMUNITY GARDENS The rooftop of the shopping mall can be transformed into a community garden for the city. Schools can be educated, the vegetables can be used in local restaurants and the space can be an attraction for business meetings on location.
ACTIVE FACADES Opening up the facades of the shop ping mall will create a more lively city center. PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY Creating a pedestrian friendly city center will generate a lively space that will enhance the wellbeing of the citizens and visitors. STUDENT HOUSING Introducing a new user group in the city, students, will activate city life in the center of Glostrup. The building volume can be used to create clear boundaries around a new urban square; making an united and understandable urban space. STATION AREA Transforming the station area to generate a lively city center and a warm welcome to Glostrup. The front lawn reminds citizens about the green elements that characterize their city, the promenade flanked by apple trees give them the chance to enjoy a walk and feel the city life, the urban square engages to sport activities, social and cultural events.

Buddinge Battery in located in Gladsaxe Municipality and owned by the the aforementioned municipality since 2013. It is part of the fortification system around Copenhagen and has great historical value. It has been abandoned since 1992 and no interventions took place since 2013. This place needed a chance! Together with Gladsaxe municipality, the scouts, the housing association and several other parties the regeneration process started and benefited from their expertise and experience. The project was presented at Gladsaxe Days and received good feedbacks.
The physical and social regeneration of Buddinge Battery The master thesis addresses the problem of abandoned areas with great potential to improve both the urban aesthetics and the urban life. Its main tools are the user involvement and the concept of democratic urbanism. The residents are the focus of this project and the co-designers of this urban space. Through workshops, their ideas, thoughts and suggestions have been taken into consideration. Additional analyses were developed to investigate the physical, environmental and less material aspects of Budding Battery such as buildings, infrastructure, vegetation, weather conditions. The findings affected very little the final solution. The project aims to create a liveable neighbourhood and a sense of belonging. Buddinge Battery is presented as a story telling, introducing fictive characters in a imaginary but wanted set of activities to illustrate the generated social interaction and the use of the new green area. From 2016, Buddinge Battery regeneration project is part of the local budget and future plans.

The solution is characterised by the conceptual loop and by three main structures supposed to assure a functional and consistent area: green, blue and black structure. The green structure consists of the vegetation inside the area, individual trees or clumps of trees, the surrounding hedges reminding of the character of the area, hills and swamp areas. The blue structure is represented through the water structure running through the whole area. It takes different forms such as lakes, swamps and ditches. It works hand in hand with the green structure, creating natural ecosystems. The black structure brings the activities together with the nature through a hybrid area composed of public spaces, alleys, paths, car and bike infrastructure.

Strategic concept for south Bucharest 2035
The strategic concept for Bucharest 2035 is conducted as warning signal directed to the politicians and the public media concerning the fast and chaotic urban sprawl around Bucharest, .

Its purpose is to investigate the existing situation, present the business as-usual scenario and recommend a 2035 scenario. Schemes and maps have been used to create a basic language and understanding for all readers. The business as-usual scenario shows an uncontrollable development in the south area of Bucharest, characterised by intensive housing and services not leaving much space for agriculture, industry and natural environment. The strategic concept for Bucharest 2035 analyses the challenges and plans a strategy that mitigates the consequences while keeps this development under control. It is structured in four stages. They are decided based on several criteria such as geographics, the scale of future projects, the societal needs or funding.

The area selected for the project is located outside Bucharest, 17 km away from the city center. Mogosoaia municipality is satellite city, depending on the labor market and services from Bucharest. The small municipality lacks an urban identity . There are almost no services, activities or urban elements to ensure a good quality of life and individualize this small municipality. The aim of the project is to develop an integrated plan for the area that would integrate in the existing context, offer identity and generate controled growth. Along with the thorough analysis, several functional schemes have started the process. The final result is an urban plan and a set of regulations that offer functional possibilities, but keep under control the chaotic future development.

The cultural museum project is one of the conceptual semester projects and has the purpose to challenge with the difficult settings. It is located in the old city center area of Bucharest and surrounded therefore by many heritage buildings. The special part of this project is the six blind walls that surround the plot, leaving little options for natural lightning.

The concept sees the challenging blind walls as opportunities. We create a public space that welcomes visitors into the pedestrian area and inside the modules of the museum. The museum becomes an urban experience integrated in the urban pedestrian flow, rather than a singular building.

High density housing in periphery This residential project challenges the idea of dull outskirts with a high density housing with medium living standards. The theme represents a hybrid of the row housing concept. It is composed of modules shaped in I, L or U .
The one-way streets lead to less traffic, more safety and create an intimate feeling. The transition from the house to the outdoor terrace is done through a small green house, that has the role to keep the indoor temperature stable and bring a little bit of green inside the house.
The geographical orientation of the housing units permits natural light to penetrate the more active areas and warm up the ones that lack solar light. - individual project - Architecture and Urban planning University Bucharest - 2009 - 4 weeks

Urban renewal in a central neighbourhood The studied area is located in one of the oldest neighbourhoods from the central area of Bucharest. It is dominated by individual houses and gives the viewer an historical and bohemic atmosphere. Over the years, many modern and unappropiate buildings have crossed the urban regulations and made room for unaestethic volumes. The purpose of this project is to find the balance between the old and the new, keep a medium to high building quality, incourage social cohesion and improve the urban image of the area. The final proposal is developed for a smaller area and presents all necessary changes that lead to an improved urban image, higher living standards, increased social activities and improved environmental factors. The change is not meant to be radical, but small and punctual. - team of two persons - Architecture and Urban planning University Bucharest - 2009 - 8 weeks
