Project Statement The project aims for set collection of ceramic tableware that includes cups and saucers for the cafÊ’s in Italy.Creating a breakthrough for the world of ceramics through observatory design solutions with modern contemporary aesthetics.And art on the pieces in collaboration with artists and artisans.

Timeline

History of ceramics in Italy and it’s relation with coffee.

1350

Technological advansments (Klins & Glazes), combined with artisans craftmanship.

Italain Maiolica was first produced.

1450 (Renaissance Peak)

Forms were not clear but some things such as containers, cups without handles were evident. 1500

(Also art on the pieces was gradually developing)

1700

1600

Small towns started producing high quality maiolica. (Montelupo, Deruta)

1923

Coffee arrives in Europe. (Initially was surved in cups without handles even if there where cups with handles) 1896

Was named Tazzina(Little cups) after Luigi Tazzini artistic director of Richard -Ginori, Tuscan ceramic society. (And thats when handles were added.)

Saucers were introduced for resting cups as well as cool coffee. Coffee was poured in the saucer and drunk directly.

1800

1850 (saucers became contrary to good manners) Brit Josiah Wedgwood introduced english version of Majolica & was the person who invented coffee cups.

Fixing Details

Cork Wood (1mm thin)

The Cork Sheet(1mm thin) and (20 mm Wide) is been cut and fixed into the surface of the cups with the help of E 6000(Adhesive Glue) which creates a permenant bond between the two and its properties fill the pores of the cork for water not to pass through.
