NEW YEAR, NEW LOCATION, NEW OPPORTUNITIES!

Greetings & Happy New Year! This is my favorite time of the year for several reasons. I get energized at the prospect of planning for a new year also to reflect on accomplishments and lessons learned from the past year, while developing plans for the new year. Successful entrepreneurs share something in common: they set goals. I am a firm believer in goal setting. Each year our board of directors welcomes five new board members with an orientation and set goals for the new year. We review the progress made in the previous year, overall revenue, revenue streams, products produced and services rendered. In addition we discuss launching better products and services that lead to increased revenue and business growth. Three major events that will remain and meet the criteria are Leadership Franklin County, Career Quest and the Business EXPO.

Leadership Franklin County Leadership Franklin County, Wednesday, January 7th is Courts & Public Safety Day. The day begins at the Tennessee National Guard Armory with a presentation by Major Tommie Stevens, including demonstrations of equipment by military staff. Next a quick walk to the bunker including tours of Emergency Management and the Consolidated Communications Center. Each tour includes presentations from Eric Trussell and Kathy Blazier in the “Briefing” room. After a tour of the jail, we return to the Armory for a presentations by Josh Hunt, Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agent. Assistant District Attorney Steve Blount will provide an overview of the court process. Following lunch the class will tour the Franklin County Judicial Center including presentations by Circuit Court Clerk Robert Baggett, Sheriff Tim Fuller, and Judge Tom Faris. Next we will tour the Chancery Courtroom with a presentation by Chancellor Jeff Stewart. Final presentation back at the Armory will be Keith Moses, FBI Federal Bureau of Investigation. Special thanks to each professional for taking time to address the 2015 class of Franklin County Leadership.

Career Quest Looking back it is easy to see why the Career Quest will be an annual event. The 2nd Annual Career Quest is scheduled for Friday, February 6th at North Middle School. The Career Quest for Franklin County 8th Graders, hosted by the Franklin County Manufacturers and your Chamber is scheduled for Friday, February 6th at North Middle School. Special thanks to Stanley Bean North Jr. High School Principal for opening North Middle School for all 8th graders to gather for the event. Approximately 88 individuals were involved, with 65 professionals presenting to students. Call the Chamber at 967-6788 if you are willing to help. More details will follow. During the event representatives from business and industry manned booths providing information about careers in their field. Students will have prepared questions to ask, and they are eager to talk with an actual professional in the field in which they are interested. Details are included in this publication.

23rd Annual Business Expo The date to mark on your calendar is March 26th for the 23nd Annual Franklin County Chamber Business EXPO. The Expo will be held at North Middle School on Decherd Boulevard where there is more visibility and easy access. “This is the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your business” commented, Sam Henley, Chair for the event. Sam along with his committee is preparing another great event for Franklin County Business Professionals and Organizations Registration and information will be posted on the Chamber web site, as soon as final details are complete. All booths will be assigned as registrations are received due to the new location. We want to welcome back Dave Van Buskirk as Chamber President for a second term. The Board of Directors will finalize the 2015 program of work at the January board meeting. Please call Dave, any board member or myself, if you want to be more involved or have suggestions. This is your Chamber and we are here to support and promote you...our members!

Thank each of you who have already mailed your investment for 2015!
