FROM EDITOR’S DESK

Dear Colleagues, It gives me great pleasure to present to you Volume -3 of our Hero Universe Magazine for 2017, which if you have noticed now comes across on time regularly every quarter. Mr. Sanjay Jorapur Let me start by wishing all of you and your family members a warm Chief Human Resources Officer and wonderful Dusshera. You are all aware that this auspicious day marks the victory of ‘Good over Evil’ and let us take this message of Dusshera festival to once again reiterate our commitment to Hero’s Core values and Code of Conduct which proves as a guiding light towards the appropriate path and helps us in demonstrating the correct and right behaviours.

The adherence to Code of Conduct is extremely vital across all our functions and at all levels. Our CMD & CEO Mr Pawan Munjal, and the Hero leadership team have on several occasions reaffirmed that Hero exemplifies a transparent global organization, with strong commitment to its core values and the Code of Conduct. The CMD has also reiterated our Zero Tolerance approach in any and all cases of violations of the Code of Conduct. In order to communicate our zero tolerance approach on the Code, we have multiple initiatives – the latest one being new communication videos on Hero Values from our leadership team, wherein they explain the importance of each value in their own words. Do take time to view these short 3~4 minute videos. We are also entering a period of festivity across the country, and all of us have to stay alert to our Values and Code. We follow the expectations on not accepting any gifts of value during the entire festive period and if our partners do insist, then do not hesitate to refer them to our Code guidelines and politely refuse the gift. Moving to the business front, during the last quarter, our organization announced its highest ever Quarterly sales of 18,53,647 units, with a robust growth of 6.2% over the corresponding period last year. We reported a net profit of Rs. 914 Cr in this quarter (3.5% increase over the corresponding period last year) and gross turnover of R. 8,612.9 Cr, posting a healthy increase of 7.5% over the corresponding period last year. A detailed report on our business performance is included in the coming pages of the magazine. We recently concluded the first batches of our leadership curriculums - Hero iLEAD @ Wharton, Emerging Leaders program (ELP), Women in Leadership (WIL) and 3rd batch of Future Leaders Program 3

FROM EDITOR’S DESK (FLP). These marquee programs are an integral part of our efforts to build internal leadership pipeline and succession for key positions. All these programs offer experiential and blended leaderning approaches including interaction with Hero Leadership team. You can read about these in our pages of this magazine. leadership development curriculum. In addition, we launched Excellerator Club for our hi performers – a 360 degree all round development initiative to sharpen their skills even more. The other notable development was signing of our MoU with Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University to provide an avenue for skill development and earning a qualification while working for unemployed youth. This MoU is a significant contribution from our side towards the Prime Minister’s vision of Skill India, in partnership with HVSU – the first skill university in the country. In our engagement initiatives, we conducted Motopassion On ground events at 5 locations – Dharuhera, Gurgaon, Haridwar, GPC & Neemrana and Vadodara during the last month. Keeping in line with the changing trends in the world of mobility, the event was named as “The Scooter Saga” where employees got an opportunity to understand the history, evolution and socio economic factors impacting the world of Scooters and Electric 2 Wheelers in the form of Picture Gallery, Street Play, movie show, quiz completion etc. In furtherance to our efforts in becoming a Great Place to Work, we also started Hero 4 Heroes – a program launched at enabling our Managers to improve overall Employee Experience in their teams and within the organization as a whole. This program is being implemented in collaboration with Great Places to Work Institute. On a sporting note, I’m proud to share that Hero Motocorp has signed on to become the National Supporter of the FIFA U-17 World cup India 2017, which will be held across the country from 6th – 28th October. As the National Supporter of FIFA U-17 World Cup, we will be playing a vital role in supporting the competition at local level throughout the country. You will see a series of engagement activities through this month for our employees on the FIFA theme. We are now entering the festival period of Diwali, Dusshera and Navratri, a busy time for us! We have to work together across functions and ensure that our business performance scales newer heights and we continue to retain our leadership position in the industry by a wide margin! Once again, wishing you and your family a very warm and happy festivities and I hope you enjoy reading this edition of Hero Universe. Best wishes, Sanjay

COMPANY HIGHLIGHTS

BUSINESS PERFORMANCE Q1 Performance and current trends impacting the world of Mobility • Macro economic trends

Global economy has shown signs of stability/improvement, with growth forecast at 3.5% for 2017 and 3.6% in 2018. Indian currency has remained stable/strong, despite interest rate increase by US Fed. RBI recently took interest cut by another 25 bps, taking cumulative cuts to over 200 bps over last 2 years. We may be now reaching the bottom of the interest rate cycle, although no one can accurately forecast these trends. The overall country inflation remains benign, though the commodities that impact auto sector (steel, aluminum), have started moving up again.

• 2 wheeler industry and our performance in Q1

The industry grew by 8.5% in Q1 (our growth 6.2%), with domestic volumes growing at 7.8%. Scooters market growth was at 20%, while Motorcycles grew 3%. We grew ahead of industry (with 7% growth) in motorcycles but were flat in scooters. Parts business grew by 5%, impacted by GST, while exports picked up momentum, growing by 9% (vs. a decline in FY17). Our Business plan for FY18 is targeting 15% growth in domestic, 30% growth in parts business, and 60% growth in exports. Our Q1 performance was lower than business plan, and we need to accelerate in remaining part of the year to meet the targets.

• Profitability and margin trends

We delivered an EBITDA margin of 16.3%, lower by 30 bps on y/y basis. Q1 was impacted by commodity cost increases to the extent of more Rs 800/vehicle, which was partially offset by price increases. The commodities while remaining stable for few months are again moving up. It will be critical for us to get more out of Leap programme and overhead cost reduction, while taking judicious price increases depending on market scenario.

• GST, a mega change

As we all know, GST transition was one of the biggest changes, and through efforts by entire organization, we were able to implement it successfully. Kudos to the teams involved, for making sure that there was no business disruption, and production, dispatch, sales, were all up and running on 1st July itself. The transition by no means is over- and many more actions are in pipeline, which include return filing in GSTN portal, restoration of fiscal benefits etc. The cross functional teams continue to remain focused on this.

• Moving forward

Achieving growth as per ABP, and delivering margins will remain key focus area as we move into the festive season.

Wishing a Bumper festive season to all! Warm Regards, Niranjan Gupta Chief Financial Officer

Hero MotoCorp achieves significant Landmarks

ero Motocorp has crossed 75 million cumulative sales milestone in the month of Sept17. In line with Chairman, MD & CEO’s vision, HMCL has set a target of achieving 100 million units by 2020 and also targeting double digit growth during this festive season. During the festive season last year, Hero Motocorp had surpassed one million units in retails sales. Achievement of 75 million sales is in line with Hero’s vision of surpassing 100 million two wheelers in cumulative sales by 2020. The organization’s customer activation initiatives for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup have also been seamlessly integrated into the overall strategy. Earlier this quarter, Hero Motocorp achieved another significant landmark wherein HMCL reported that the organization took 6 years to eclipse the cumulative sales of previous three decades when Honda partnered with Hero to build one of the most durable cross border joint ventures. Hero’s success as a solo rider is a story of India’s journey into consumption adulthood – and a vote of confidence for homegrown Talent in consumer technology. Hero motocorp sold a total of 38.9 million units until the end of July – 2017, overtaking the cumulative sales of 37.4 million two wheelrs registered by Hero Honda in its 27 years. Notably, in these six years, the share price of Hero Motocorp has also doubled, with the market cap racing past 77,000 Crore. The overall two wheeler market has increased by over 31% to add more than 4.2 million units in this period (FY 12 – FY 17). Total two wheeler sales in the domestic market stood at 17,589,511 units at the end of the last financial year. Hero Motocorp had a share of 36.9% and its nearest competitor and erstwhile partner Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has 26.9%. Hero’s new products, developed with its own technology, have helped the company helped maintain over 50% share of the domestic motorcycle market. Its mainstay remains Splendor, which with sales of 2,550,830 units contributed nearly 40% to overall sales of the company last fiscal. The challenge for the organization lies in cornering a large pie in the country’s fast growing scooter segment where former partner Honda controls as much as 60% of the market compared to Hero’s 12.7%. Introduction of the automatic transmission in scooters, rising urbanization, and female consumers have driven the share of scooters in the country’s overall two wheeler market to 33% last fiscal from 21% in FY 13. In the same five years, the share of commuter motorcycles (100 cc – 110 cc) has declined to 37% from the earlier 47%. To strengthen its footprints in this segment, Hero has lined up new scooter models for launch over the next few quarters. Besides, consolidating its presence in the domestic market Hero Motocorp has also expanded its presence to 35 countries across Asia, Africa, South & Central America in the last 6 years. The company has invested heavily in ramping up its in house capabilities and set up the Centre for Innovation & Technology (CIT) in Jaipur. On the capacity front, Hero is very well placed. Hero Motocorp currently has an installed domestic capacity of around 8.9 million units, which will go up to 10 million once the plants in Gujarat & Andhra Pradesh become fully operational. Its closest competitor HMSI has a capacity of 6.4 million units across its four manufacturing facilities in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat & Karnataka.

Hero Motocorp Wards at TSALS - 2017

F

our bright young students – Aarushi, Tanushi, Shubham and Paarth - wards of Hero MotoCorp employees participated in The Shri Anantha Leadership School 2017. These 4 students shared some brief glimpses of their experience during the course, which is given below:

Aarushi Yadav (D/o Mr. Sant Kumar – EC: 1846) TSALS 2017 was a great experience for me. We used to have yoga sessions early in the morning and they were really helpful in keeping ourselves calm throughout the day. Socratic dialogues helped me in learning on how not to believe in someone’s opinion blindly but to frame our own in the best way possible. Every day we used to have a silent hour in the evening. During this time, I used to draw, think, write poems and especially reflect what I learnt on that day. We also had theatre sessions. Through CAV project, we all got a chance to decide a project for social welfare that we would do after returning back to our homes. Regarding the adventure sports, personally I had a fear of height and water but rafting, zip lining and rappelling helped me a lot to overcome them.

Tanushi Bhatnagar (D/o Mr. Rahul Bhatnagar – EC: 2857) The trip started with some expectations and I was pretty excited and nervous at the same time. After participating in the program, I learnt to trust people and believe in them, most of all, I learnt teamwork. I inculcated habits to stay a lifetime, participated in some amazing, adventure sports, learnt to be independent and most importantly, learnt that I have the potential to change the world with my thoughts put to actions. I even corrected myself at stances, learnt to be patient with myself and my surroundings. The most significant thing I learnt was believing and having confidence in yourself, thanks to all the theatre sessions. At the culmination of the camp we were also given the opportunity to showcase our newlylearnt skills to the proud parents and eager siblings. I have also decided on my ‘Community Action Venture’ which revolves around educating underprivileged youth about gender equality.

9

Shubham Gupta (S/o Mr. Sanjay Gupta – EC: 5363) I am glad to be a part of such a wonderful educational programme. I thoroughly enjoyed the two week program with lots of learning. Our day started with Yoga which was very refreshing but also a bit challenging. I enjoyed the various adventure activities like Rafting, rappling, trekking, the zip lining across the river Ganges. Each of the Adventure Sport taught us value of teamwork, whereas other days were booked with Socratic Sessions, Personal Leadership and Value Enhancement Workshops. Socratic was a new but nice experience for me. Also the Community Action Venture (CAV) helped us to do something for the society. The Impact might not be big but it will help a little bit to make a change in our Nation. I will miss each and every moment I have spent there and the friends I have made around the corners of India.

Paarth Sharma (S/o Mr. Piyush Sharma – EC: 3591) My 2 weeks at TSALS were AMAZING, tough but totally amazing. The people, my fellow students, the teachers, the facilitators, the Snow Leopard adventure staff, our adventure sports instructors – everyone were amazing! I’ve made such good friends, got to hear so many inspiring stories, got to learn so many new things, experienced things I’d otherwise dare not to, realised the fact that I can exist without my phone, be comfortable around 55 strangers and the list can go on endlessly. The Socratic dialogue was the core of the entire camp – a place where all of us patiently listened to others speak, mull over their opinions and had the complete freedom to change ours too. The zip lining was almost as good as the rafting. We zip lined right over the river Ganga, it was so beautiful.

eeping in line with the aspiration of becoming a global employer of choice, one of the programs that was launched in Mid Aug-17 was Hero4Heroes - manager capability building intervention. The underlying theme of this intervention is to build manager capability in creating a great employee experience within his/her team. In partnership with Great Places to Work Institute, the core of the program revolves around the concept of ‘Giftwork’ - which essentially talks about managers turning every day workplace interactions with their teams into unique, generous, and individualized interactions which brings the team together and that fits the organizational context. These are 2 day workshops and we have successfully completed four batches of managers with four more in the pipeline in End Oct - early Nov. As this is an intervention program, participating managers have to also undergo a post workshop phase which captures their action plans and there is a check and review mechanism built in place as well. We have got very good feedback of this program already and we hope future batches equally appreciate and more importantly implement their learning at their workplaces to create a great employee experience.

Know Your Buddy

T

eam HR at Parts Business launched a people to people connect initiative that we named Know Your Buddy (KYB). The objective of this initiative is to foster strong collaboration between team members and to build a culture of camaraderie amongst us all, as one Team. The basic intent of KYB is that we get to know about our work buddies across functions or across locations at a personal level- about their likes & interests beyond work, about their hidden talents and about their families. The idea is to know our co-workers as friends, and not just

18

team members. To get the initiative off the block, a team member simply need to choose his/her respective Buddy. Anyone can reach out to anyone within Parts Business, going as per the below guidelines: • You don’t know a person that well. OR, • Your nature of duty demands a close collaboration with him/her. OR, • The person is your next-workstation neighbor. Throughout the working week, a team member can connect with their respective Buddy and try to know him/her better. In their journey to do so, the HR Team enables/supports this activity as required. At the end of an engaging conversation, typically continuing over a course of 3-4 weeks, we (HR members) then reach out to the employees, to capture their description of their respective “BUDDY”. These stories were sent to all team members of Parts Business via email.

MOTOPASSIONAITE DIARIES @ HERO PRADEEP ACHARYA (Operations, Vadodara)

R

iding is all about Journey, not the destination. And this journey has taken me through difficult times, memorable times, and wonderful landscapes and has changed the way I look at the world. I have undertaken several road trips throughout my life. Not all trips are scenic; roads can be pretty rugged, harsh and very long. I often found myself in a place which is neither close to home nor the destination and I get all sorts of thought. Sometimes roads can make you Philosophical as well. One might start thinking about the purpose of these mountains. Riding has given me time to think about myself and what I should do with my life. There are experiences, which one simply cannot share, feeling of accomplishment which have to earned, joy of being able to live the moment and the times which you can call as priceless. Only a true rider can find these with his bike. I might sound exaggerating, but it’s for you to explore yourself.

ROHIT JHA (Operations, Gurgaon)

I

started riding when I was 16 and have done many road trips and participated in national off-road races too, the most famous trips are “Kashmir to Kanyakumari on Maestro Edge” and Raid De Himalaya (one of the toughest rally race in the world) on a stock old Yamaha FZS motorcycle which created a lot of buzz around the motorsports fraternity. For all my Endurance rides I apply my 3A Principle “Agility, Ability and Adaptability”, to make a good relation with your machine as it is needed the most, you should be able to talk to your machine. My answer to people who thinks road trips are meant for superbikes only let me tell you, when you ride a 500cc or more machine, it is a machine who makes you look good people notice the machine not you but when you ride a 100cc or similar machines it is you and your ability, who makes that machine looks good and people notice you.

KRISHNAMOORTHY V (SS&SC, Vadodara)

T

his is my story about an impromptu road trip which I, along with my brother, made to Wayanad – A Spectacular destination for the Weather and about 300 Kms from Bangalore.

We started early in the morning and reached Mysore by 12 pm, had a lunch break for 30 mins and continued our journey through the long National Highway NH275. After few hours we had reached the outskirts of Bandipur National Forest, the scenic was immediate changed from Farms to open grass lands. We passed through villages, rivers and the scenic was breath taking. Then eventually by 5 PM we had reached the outskirts of Wayanad. There, we visited few local attractions like, Edakkal Caves, Soochipara Waterfalls, Chembra Peak, and a Ride through the country side. The next day we were on our way back to Bangalore and reached by 4 pm. An epic road trip carved in the heart.
