NEW LAUNCH
in Argentina www.heromotocorp.com
Takeaway from CMD Townhall 01
Mr. Pawan Munjal
Chairman,Managing Director & CEO
In last financial year, we witnessed a stellar performance. A quick glimpse of our achievements is as follows: • We completed another year as No. 1, now for 16 consecutive years. • We surpassed the 70mn unit’s cumulative sales in the 70th year of India’s independence. • Our global footprint has now spread to 35 countries in Asia, Africa, and South & Central America. • We were awarded Indian MNC of the year by All India Management Association • We witnessed launch of Splendor iSmart 110, Acheiver 150, and global launch of Glamour 125 in Argentina.
While technology and innovation are changing humanity like never before, socio-political and economic conflicts still continue to create conflict and obstacles around the globe. Path breaking progress in technology is breaking down geographical boundaries, thereby making the world a small sphere. With tremendous progress in technology, the judiciary and the government are also becoming stricter in terms of regulation and concern for sustainability and the environment. In FY 2017, the industry was hit by two such developments which dampened our growth plans – first it was the Demonetization and secondly, transition from BS III to BS IV. We managed to overcome these issues but not untouched. We saw the impact on our financials. However, as they say that every cloud has a silver lining, the positives were that we were able to take stock of where we were and be more prepared for future. When the company launched its first product, it changed the mobility landscape of this country; makes us proud of our legacy and since 2011, we have worked harder and proved all the sceptics wrong and we kept growing. Today to find the path for future, I look back to the genesis of Hero because this is not business as usual and I want everyone to understand that we are at crossroads. With the changing times, the need is to carve out a path that keeps us ahead of everyone else. A lot of hard work has gone into bringing us to this level and we cannot rest even now. We are looking forward to expand ourselves in Mexico, and Brazil. Over the next two years, we will spending 2.5K crores more in building more capacities and developing new products for domestic as well as the global market.
niors. Below are my Ten Commandments for this year for all of us to focus on: 1. Everyone should have Zero Tolerance on all product quality issues 2. Improve consumer focus and service quality. 3. Launch of six new products this year including two aspirational products. 4. Be ready for BS VI transition. 5. Surpass sales targets. 6. Grow volumes from Global Business. 7. Path-breaking, hard-hitting, and effective brand communication . 8. Increase focus on scooters and scale up the production. 9. Increase focus on premium segment 10. Target growth of 15% in Domestic market, 30% in Parts Business and 60 percent% in Global Business It’s time for result-oriented action only. Our goals should be common and I hope these commandments have given you a direction that we have been looking for. This year PACE will be linked to the overall achievement of the set targets, whether for an individual or for a team. Reaching No. 1 position is easy, but sustaining it is a task, especially when everyone else is clawing to take away your market share. I look forward to all of you to put your Mind, Heart and Soul into these Ten Commandments, go out there and claim the victory and glory that is ours! As Compiled by HR Function
I have provided the Senior Leadership team with very specific goals and guidelines for this fiscal year and I want to share my vision with you all as well. All of us are equally responsible and accountable as much as our seniors, peers and ju-

Mr. Sanjay Jorapur Chief Human Resources Officer
Dear Colleagues, It gives me a pleasure to bring to you yet another issue of our Hero Universe Magazine. On 16th May 2017, our Chairman, Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Pawan Munjal addressed the organization in a TownHall – in which he congratulated all of us on maintaining the No. 1 position in the Two Wheeler industry for the 16th straight year and surpassing 70 mn vehicles in terms of cumulative numbers in the 70th year of India’s independence. Apart from the congratulatory messages, the CMD also gave us 10 commandments to live by in this financial year, and exhorted each one of us to work for accomplishing them. These 10 commandments need us to also change a few things in our day to day professional life – that is to create an unfrettered enthusiasm, positivity and collaborative atmosphere amongst ourselves. He also asked for a mugh tighter linkage between performance rewards and goal accomplishments. It requires us to rise above our individual roles and understand the need of the organization, and reach out and contribute in areas where additional efforts

may be required. That is the spirit of team – where everyone plays for the team success and not for individual records. During the year, our mySuccess platform continued to gather strength as the single window for all employee portals. Now we have Recruitment, Onboarding, Employee Profile, Internal Job Posting, Goals, Performance Management, Learning and also Compensation – all available on a single platform. We will continue to add onto this portfolio with remaining modules in order to create an Integrated Talent Management platform for our employees globally. We also continued our digitization efforts in other areas – with implementation of CWMS – Contingent Workforce Management System and also digitizing other smaller applications in HR and several other areas of our businesses. On the employee development front, our initiatives such as Wharton Business School powered iLEAD, Emeritus Institute of Man-

agement, Singapore powered ELP and IMT Ghaziabad powered FLP took shape this year, in addition to our existing tie-ups with ISB for Advanced Manufacturing Program, BML for Women in Leadership and CII for VLFM program and several others. Diversity was a major focus for us, and #BeBOLD for CHANGE – the theme of our International Women’s Day outlined several initiatives we took during the year – e.g. Project Tejaswini – wherein, for the first time we added women associates on Hero shopfloors.
cycle as the grand prize! We will continue to work on these and other priorities for ensuring we engage all of you, and enable your performance. Best wishes and I hope you enjoy reading this edition of Hero Universe as much as we enjoyed making this. Happy Reading!
We continued to provide for employee engagement platforms, and champion the voice of employee through Hyphen – an anonymous employee feedback and chat forum. Our MOTOPASSION platform reached several new employees in igniting the passion for our industry, and our Great Places to Work Initiative “The Great Hero Family” touched several employees – including special campaigns on Father’s Day wherein, we received close to 100 entries from our employees and one of our employees from CIT Jaipur won a Hero Motor-

Inspection team appreciated the QA Process adopted at HMCL & has recommended award of Self Certification status to HMCL for Supplies of Two-Wheeler’s to Defence. In Automobiles space only Hero & Maruti have a privilege of Self Certification Status.
This Certification status will reflect in savings of precious man hours apart from huge costs incurred to carry out Defence Inspection at our Plants for Defence supplies. In the Closing meeting, Maj General SS Chaddha praised the HMCL team to carry out the good quality practices in the plant and putting their best to give a best quality product to the customers.

Hero MotoCorp Wards at TSALS 2016 Four bright young boys – Adarsh, Daksh, Parth and Rajat - wards of Hero MotoCorp employees participated in TSALS 2016. They were an excellent addition to the group – intelligent and friendly. They actively participated in all the activities and imbibed the true essence of the ‘values-based-leadership’ imparted - which was the core of the program. These students wrote letters to their sponsor about their experiences at TSALS 2016. These letters copied below will give you a deeper perspective on how the students progressed over the two weeks:
By Adarsh Dwivedi, The Trailblazer, -Junior ASPEN Fellow 2016
Dear Sir, This letter is a summary, a compilation of my experiences of TSALS 2016. First of all, I would like to thank you for considering me the right candidate for this prestigious and wonderful program and providing me with this golden opportunity of being a part of it. So to start with, 15-28 May 2016 was the best period of my life. Before the start of the program, I was an introvert. I had the skills, talent, passion, and dedication to work for the society but I lacked self-confidence and motivation to put my thoughts into action. But those two weeks at Snow Leopard Camp in the arms of the Mother Nature along with all my friends and faculty changed me to the core. The Socratic Dialogue, the soul of the program
11
was very engaging and enlightening. Those two to three hours of everyday discussion made us realize the extent of varied views on a topic even in a small group of fifty-five odd students. We learned to accept others’ views and opinions, no matter how weird or wrong they sound. Everyone had their logic behind their views. A lot of us also changed our minds back and forth on a topic. Trust me, the Socratic Dialogue was the most enlightening experience of the TSALS 2016. But all the enlightening experiences were perfectly complimented by all the adventure sports, theatre workshops, yoga, silent hour, and, last but not the least, the delicious food. All the adventure sports and fun games, whether Rafting, Zip lining, Hiking, Rappelling, or the Spider Web
game, all of them along with the Yoga taught us the skills of active listening, team-leading, self-control over body and mind, following instructions, … The list is long. All these activities taught us various lessons in a fun and interesting way which permanently imprinted all these teachings in our brain. The Theatre Workshops along with all the fun games and the children’s home visit taught us the reality of life and changed the way we looked at the outside world. My special experiences with Ritesh Sir, Roshni Ma’am, Rajesh Sir, and all the other facilitators while handling the technical jobs of the closing ceremony gave me immense pleasure and satisfaction. The guest lecture with Mr. Tarun Das was very informative as we were gaining through his life experience. That session was like watching a movie on India’s transition to modern era. The Silent Hour, Reflection, and the Delicious food was the best way to end the day. The Silent Hour gave us a lot of time to think about the
day, to think about us, and all the things going on around us. The Reflection was a brilliant way to refresh the day’s memories and learnings in a short period of time. Finally, the food was too good. I mean, I don’t have words to describe the food. It was so good. Sarala Ma’am and the Snow Leopard Camp took great care of us. It was a home away from home. Before concluding this letter, I would like to thank Hero MotoCorp, Snow Leopard Camp, all the moderators, facilitators, and my friends along with each and every person associated with the TSALS 2016 for making these fourteen days the best and unforgettable days of my life and for transforming me from “Adarsh” to “The Trailblazer”. THANK YOU
By Daksh Kaushik, D.A.V. Public School, Gurgaon
Respected Sir,
to 28th May which the company sponsored.
I am Daksh Kaushik s/o Mr. Mahesh Kumar (M3, Maintenance, HMCG). This is to tell you how delighted I am, for I was the privileged one to get a chance to go to Rishikesh with TSALS (The Shree Ram Aspen Leadership School) 2016 from 15th
Sir, I am glad to be a part of such a wonderful educational program and very much thankful to Hero MotoCorp for giving us such an opportunity. We enjoyed the two week program with lots of learning. Our day started with Yoga. Yoga was

a refreshing start of the day but also very challenging. We enjoyed the three faces of yogaAcro yoga, Aerial yoga and Power yoga. And the mouth-watering food. Every day the meal was different. Food was very delicious and nutritious. Adventure Sports were icing to the cake. Rafting was my second time but this time my experience was completely different. This time it was really fun. Repelling was my first time and at a point I was really scared but I learned to get up on my feet. Trekking was amazing. Also the zip lining across the river Ganges was a thrilling one. Each of the Adventure Sport taught us value of teamwork. Whereas other days were booked with Socratic Sessions, Personal Leadership and Value Enhancement Workshops. Socratic was a new but nice experience for me. And the Community Visit was a good experience, playing with the kids was really nice. Also the Community Action Venture (CAV) helped us to do something for the society. The Impact might not be big but it will help a little bit to make a change in our Nation.
Silent Hour was a completely different experience for me. It was a challenging task. Patience was required for that. But it was a good initiative for the day’s schedule. It was perfect time for reflection. Theatre Classes were the most delightful part of the day. Theatre Classes helped us to bring out our inner character. It mostly focused on Social Issues. Most of the plays were based on social issues. Hospitality, teachers, program design, everything was excellent. This was an unforgettable part of my life. I will miss each and every moment I have spent there and the friends I have made around the corners of India. The journey had been remarkable with take away that it will help not only for my carrier but also to understand our social responsibilities with a new perspective. I wish to continue this initiative in the future for other students. WARM REGARDS
By Parth Ghildiyal, Amity International School, Gurgaon
Dear Sir, This is Parth Ghildiyal and I write to you to tell you how happy I am for I was the privileged one to get a chance to go to Rishikesh with TSALS 2016. The journey had been remarkable. The tour was a complete package, from
13
mouth-watering food to comfortable, cool camps and surely to mention a relief from the scorching heat of Delhi. The children started to mix with each other on the airport itself. During the flight also we weren’t behaving as if we don’t know each other but as best friends.
Days started with yoga and fun exercises which rejuvenated us for the whole day. The most interesting form of yoga we did was aerial yoga. Children and teachers alike, hung on the dupattas and did some amazing asana which could not have been possible without our instructor Mr. Deepak. Many days were action packed with adventure sports like rappelling and zip lining in which our coach KD added to the excitement and doubled it with his humour and motivational idioms. The best of all was rafting which really gave us an adrenaline rush. All the days were booked with the Socratic dialogues in which our moderators James, Navita and Abheek made all the readings highly interesting and entertaining. They really made us think very deeply and we were almost able to talk to our conscience, we discovered the real values which were embedded in us but never made use of.
about ourselves, we all opened up in front of everyone and talked about our relations with our family, or how we react to situations. The community visit showed us how lucky we are to have everything in our life and how dependent we are on technology but the children there were dependent only on each other for their happiness. We spent time with these children played with them, sang with them, danced with them and enjoyed a lot. The CAV projects were really innovative and showed us the inner thoughts of our Aspen fellows. It was truly a “value-based leadership programme and I hope that such programmes be held in future too so that we keep on getting the chance to become its part. THANK YOU
The personal Leadership workshops Rhea and Siddharth were really a treat and we learnt a lot

Dear Sir, I am glad to inform you that I, RAJAT SUVRA CHAKRABORTY of Kolkata have been successfully graduated from THE SHRI RAM ANANTA ASPEN LEADERSHIP SCHOOL, batch of 2016. And this was all possible because of the utilising the opportunity given to me by Hero MotoCorp. Hero MotoCorp headed by MR PAWAN
MUNJAL is seeking progress rapidly and this was all possible because of MR MUNJAL and his ambition to see Hero as the leading motorcycle manufacturer in the world. I would really like to thank Hero for giving me this opportunity and would also request them to continue this tie up with TSALS so that even other children can also be benefitted from this leadership camp and

later in life can turn up as great leaders like MR MUNJAL. I have very fond memories of the camp starting from the very first day till the time I parted from my campmates. The beginning and the end both were difficult. In the beginning it was difficult to socialise with other people as I am not too good in socialising but in the end it was very difficult to part with my friends as we all bid adieu to each other with tears in our eyes. The camp has taught me a lot of things like self-relying, taking decisions as a team and of course the camp has also groomed us as mature young adults who are ready to take on the world as leaders of today and tomorrow. My first thought about the camp was not about the atmosphere but my first problem was to make friends or socialise with people whom I have not
15
seen or heard about them before in my life. But even that fear was overcome by the very first day. The camp also taught us a very interesting thing about “being who we actually are” and not try to mould our self as what people want us to be for acceptance. And I followed the same thing and now I have all the 55 of TSALS 2016 as my best buddies along with the teachers and the moderators from ANANTA ASPEN Centre. I also enjoyed the SOCRATIC DIALOGUE session with JAMES (SIR JAMES) and NAVITA (NAVITA MAM) as we were strictly told not to address them as MAM or SIR. Socratic dialogue enabled me to think about a piece (situation) differently and not to prove somebody wrong or incorrect but to analyse each and everybody’s opinion and discuss it with each other. It also enabled us to think from out of the box. When we were practising this we were jumping from conclu-
sions but none of our opinion was wrong. Coming to adventure sports I must say that SNOW LEOPARD team did not take the slightest of chance with our safety as for them our safety was of prime concern and then fun and enjoyment came second. Be it rafting or enjoying at the beach camp Snow Leopard was everywhere and not as guide or safety advisors but as friends and buddies with whom we enjoyed a lot. Be it food or the first wakeup call in the morning they are the best. If we miss anything about the camp it will be the staff as they took care of us not as guests but as their own children. I would take this opportunity to thank the teachers who accompanied us to the camp. Be it coach K.D or DEEPAK SIR all of them took great care of us not as teachers but as friends.
We were so close that every night we would sit in our tent with sir or coach and talk not about studies but about our daily life. Coming from different cities and cultures we were also exposed to the diversity of our camp as students came from LADAKH in the north to TRIVANDRUM in south of INDIA. We also learned a lot of things from each other. I would also thank ROSHNI MAM, SHIPRA MAM, RITU MAM, RITESH SIR, and RAKESH SIR for staying with us and making the camp a fun experience. And last but not the least......ww I WANT TO COME BACK TO TSALS AGAIN............. THANK YOU

MANAGEMENT INITIATIVE MotoPassion
Motopassion is one of our core initiative with an intent to spark the passion and curiosity about our industry and the world of mobility amongst all employees. This change management initiative was launched across the organization last year and during that one year journey, we launched an intranet website and conducted several on-ground events at all our Plants and CIT to bring the concept of MotoPassion closer to the employees. In order to provide a better user interface and better interactive and networking platform, we started this new financial year with the launch of a revamped website (http://motopassion. in/). Some of the unique features of the new layout is that active users are awarded a Golden, Silver or Bronze Badge as well as a certain Rank amongst other users basis on their involvement in terms of “Likes” and “Comment” on the ongoing discussions/posts. Accordingly, a list of Top Scorers is displayed on the HomePage as well. We have made the HomePage more social and it has, in fact, motivated people to share latest news and their thoughts about the world of mobility.

Average Bill Amount was reduced from INR 21,410 (FY 14-15), to INR 21,419 (FY 15-16) and to INR 16,229 (FY 16-17). ZLC Pune achieved the lowest electricity bill in January 2017 with a unit consumption of 334 and respective electricity bill amount of INR 8,820; lowest in last 3 years. Benefitting from the Women in Leadership Programme By Shagufta N Rahman, HRBP, Global Business and S&PT
The 11 month program of Women in Leadership (WIL) in collaboration with BML University, was an intensive one. One had to juggle assignments, tests, end term exams, capstone simulations and other activities, which definitely took us all back to our college days and made us relive those moments when we felt the angst of
49
an exam and scrambled through the syllabus to earn good grades! As part of the program, we also visited our Neemrana and CIT facilities. While some of us had visited Neemrana earlier, CIT was a first for all of us! The infrastructure, design are world
class and we couldn’t help but be in awe of the architectural marvel! The test track stood out for us! We also met several people at both facilities who were very kind in showing us around and make it an enriching experience. Thank you! The icing on the cake was when we visited the Heritage Transport Museum, which is the first of its kind in the country! Battling the heat earlier in the day, all was forgotten when we stepped foot inside the museum. The collection of vintage cars, bikes, other modes of transportation such as different kinds of palanquin from the Mughal era - were a real delight to see! The museum is spread across four floors and every visitor is handed over an audio handset for a personalized tour experience! All the products have been maintained with utmost care and were a visual treat! The highlight for me was the crystal studded Royal Enfield bike; the 1 rupee coin studded Contessa Classic being another one!
We would like to thank the Talent Management & Development team for organizing these visit as well as thanks to our CHRO for this incredible opportunity!
