VOLUME 07/ 2016

Dear Colleagues, It gives me immense pleasure to share with you this latest issue of Hero Universe. Universe, as the name defines, confines all the atoms and elements that were and are part of the Hero Family and we will leave no stone unturned. Q2 FY 2016 (July-September) delivered highest profits and we recorded highest one day sales on Dhanteras. We sold 616,424 units of two-wheelers in August 2016 – a growth of 28% over the corresponding month last year. This is the third time this year that the company has surpassed the six lakh sales mark and we will stop for nothing less. Last quarter witnessed what will be celebrated in the history of Hero forever - six years after split from Honda, we launched our first in-house designed and developed motorcycle, Splendor iSmart 110. It has the only engine in the segment that complies with Bharat Stage IV emission norms and it features Hero’s patented i3s technology. The product won accolades all over the country for its new technology and design. We also witnessed launch of the new Achiever 150 in September which is a reiteration of our strong focus on developing new technologically superior product. Continuing our efforts towards promoting the cause of ‘Ride Safe’ across the country, we have opened yet another ‘Hero Traffic Training Park’, this time in Nagpur. This is the sixth park we have adopted after Delhi, Gurgaon, Rourkela, Lucknow and Hyderabad. Hero MotoCorp’s entry into motorsports through Hero

MotoSports Team Rally in May, has created a lot of interest in the team’s progress ahead of the Dakar Rally 2017. The team riders, CS Santosh and Joaquim Rodrigues, were introduced to the media and employees at an experiential event at our CIT, Jaipur. We have become an Official Partner of the famous British Masters golf tournament as well, to be held in the UK in October. As far as our viewership is concerned, Hero MotoCorp is India’s most viewed auto brand on online in India, as per an industry study by video intelligence company Vidooly. We emerged as the leading auto brand averaging over 1.3 million views across video sharing platforms such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We are followed by Audi India, Chevrolet India, Mahindra and BMW India respectively. We have been taking several steps in the direction of becoming a “Global Employer of Choice” and you must have seen rollout of various strategic interventions across locations. We launched the first phase of mySuccess – an Integrated Talent Management Tool and a redesigned Saksham – Hero Leadership Competency Framework which defines the DNA of a Hero Leader. Job Analysis & Evaluation and Knowledge Skill Framework have also kick-started to enhance capability and overall performance. We started our journey of systematic talent development with the Talent Review exercise and, accordingly, we initiated several targeted leadership development interventions. Hero Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) had been launched in partnership with Emeritus Insti-

tute of Management, Singapore, which is founded by consortium of globally renowned business schools - MIT Sloan Business School, Columbia Business School and Tuck School of Business. This program is aimed towards developing leadership and change management skills alongwith strategic execution to drive future growth. In addition to these, we have partnered with Wharton Business School, Philadelphia for designing and deploying iLead, Senior Leadership Development Program, which aims at building our leadership from within. The first batch of this program covers 20 identified leaders. Sessions started on Nov 28 at Wharton Business School, Philadelphia. Hero LEAD is another education initiative that provides an opportunity to earn MBA qualification in partnership with BML Munjal University, mentored by the Imperial College of London. The first batch completed successfully in September and graduation ceremony was held on 6th October, indeed a Red Letter day for all of us.

Adding to these initiatives, we recently launched “Project Tejaswini” under our Diversity and Inclusion initiative on International Day of the Girl Child, under which we have introduced Women Associates at Shopfloor at our plant locations. For now, we have 22 women associates at Haridwar plant, 30 at Neemrana plant and 3 have been inducted for our upcoming plant at Vadodra. It has taken enormous amounts of planning, coordination, discussions with external & internal stakeholders and ultimately changes in infrastructure to make this a reality and we would like to appreciate each and everyone who are a part of this. While we are moving ahead with these interventions, it is also crucial to make sure everyone’s opinions are heard besides building foundational architecture for long term success. Keeping this in mind, we have started pilot of HyPhen, a mobile based application, which is a truly anonymous platform to voice your opinions ( idea, question, concern, feedback or comment). Wish you all the best and we hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we did while making it. Happy Reading!

MotoPassion is our change management initiative which is all about creating excitement about the world of mobility and it completed its six months journey this October. The website has crossed 15,500 unique page views till now and is growing day by day which shows how MotoPassionate we are. Moving ahead, we have conducted on-ground event called MotorCycle Diary at Haridwar, Gurgaon, Neemrana, Dharuhera and CIT Jaipur in the past few months.

MESSAGE

Mr. Pawan Munjal

Chairman Managing Director & CEO

05

Dear Colleagues, The first half of this financial year has been a historic one for the company. We achieved the highest top-line and bottom line in the company’s history of half-yearly performance. Big congratulations to one and all. I expect we are going to break many more records as we progress through the year. This festive season has brought joy to the company and I would again extend my personal wishes to the entire field team and the supporting functions on the festive performance. Looking back, its been 5 years in our solo journey. During these five years, no other company has been subjected to such intense scrutiny by the media, analysts, investors and other industry observers as much as Hero! Like true Champions that we are, we have given fitting responses to all the tough questions, which were thrown at us. We have been continuously reaching greater heights and benchmarks…… The coveted Time Magazine has also recognized us ……..by awarding us the “Manufacturing Innovator of the Year “.

We all should be proud of it and look forward to 100 million. For the past 15 years in a row we have been No.1 player at a Global scale. We should all take pride in what we have achieved together. We have taken steps focusing on the times ahead be it our entry into Motorsports or our investment in Ather Energy. These steps will make us think and behave like a young company and gradually put our foot into Global space and steadily make our brand Global, and, the best is still to come! I have had the opportunity to get to know a lot of extremely successful people from all over the world. One thing that I find common among them is that they are always very optimistic about the future. They never complain. If there are hurdles or obstacles, they find ways to solve the problem, to go around the hurdles and try to find the opportunities in that direction. I want you all to realize and practice this philosophy, and work towards a new tomorrow which is far brighter than our today. Best of Luck!!

We crossed 70 Million recently. 70 Million in words seems just another milestone but we are talking about 70 Million Customers with no digitized sales process.

By planting 21,000 fruit trees and maintaining them for at least 3 years at Uttrakhand hilly villages, we are ensuring self-sustainable and employability model for villagers and thus reducing migration to urban areas. Such large tree plantation will further enhance the beauty of the place and develop a strong eco system too. Increasing capacity of one water reservoir at a village near Neemrana from 24k ltr to 84k ltr is another example of sustainability benefitting nearby villagers to access stored water. It will also have a positive impact on ground water level helping everyone including flora and fauna of that area in future. HM2G To remain competitive in this global business world, one of the key focuses is on the ability to learn and adapt to changes triggered by internal and external environment. Bringing about sustainable change would require thoughtful planning, effective communication and employee engagement. At Gurgaon Plant, inclusive approach is adopted in line with the HMCL philosophy. Our endeavour for organizational development includes engagement and connect interventions with external and internal stakeholders. We continue to enhance employee-organization relationship through effective engagement programs like sports & cultural events, CSR campaigns, tree plantation, family programs ranging from career counselling, summer-winter camps for employees’ children to couples programs namely Parivaar and Wedding Diaries. We introduced alternate ways of creating learning culture through formalizing internal trainer development process, knowledge sharing, intellectual events, creative summits, suggestion schemes, kaizens, external presentations, quizzes etc. Such initiatives certainly added meaningful value to the business. Gurgaon plant celebrates diversity as we have people from all parts of country representing like mini India. Employees carry with them richness of culture, ethnicity and values. We value sentiments and cultural values of all and show oneness by celebrating all festive occasions throughout the year. The inclusive approach is best exhibited though Sports. Thus, to build in a long lasting relationship between staff members and our technicians, a wellplanned Sports –focused engagement intervention was launched this year. Workmen and their families are also invited to participate in all events. The level of their involvement in Badminton and Hero Premier League (Cricket tournament) was incredible. HM4N At Neemrana, our efforts are to create a high performance work culture through location specific employee engagement initiatives. Neemrana being a remote location & the fact that most of our staff members are young our endeavor is to create various avenues for them to formally & informally interact cross-functionally even between HM4N & HP3N. The four Cross Functional Teams on Culture, Knowledge Sharing, Sports & Health, that we have launched have started operating fully & we are getting overwhelming response from our fellow employees in these initiatives. We have also ensured Gender Diversity in all four teams. Recent business achievements in terms of achieving production benchmarks both in HM4N & HP3N were celebrated to create excitement & motivation towards stretched performance. Since beginning at Neemrana in both HM4N & HP3N, we have given focused attention on systems & processes. Recent IMS certification for HM4N & the awards our staff members have achieved at QCFI forums substantiate the same. Focused efforts to develop internal trainers & internal auditors has helped us take this forward in depth & breadth. We are now fully geared up for the Gender Diversity on the shop-floor & we will share the updates in next issue.
