Mr. Sanjay Jorapur Chief Human Resources Officer

Dear Colleagues, It gives me immense pleasure to share with you the first Volume of Hero Universe Magazine for the year 2017. As many of you have contributed building this up, it delights me to say that this issue is “Of the People, By the People and For the People”. This is also the issue that comes out in the month of International Women’s Day on 8th March. Over the past one year, we have taken significant strides in enhancing gender diversity in our organization and we are proud to state that, we have more than doubled the number of women in the past 18 months. This has taken a lot of hard work from our various functional teams and the HR team with active sponsorship of the leadership for these initiatives. We also, as a company achieved a significant milestone in our globalization journey with our first Global Product Launch. Thursday, the January 12th, marked the historic day in the journey of our young brand, as we forayed into Argentina and unveiled the new Glamour in our first ever global product launch outside of India at Buenos Aires. Glamour is known as Ignitor in Central and

01

South American countries. Apart from Glamour, we also launched Dash scooter, Hunk and Hunk Sports motorbikes. Argentina is the 35th market where we have entered as a part of our strategy to increase volumes in markets outside. Awards are the most potent way to motivate and mobilize corporate intellectual assets; and spur them to achieve greater heights, in quality and performance in business. Guided by our ambition of being a employer of choice, it is imperative that we closely align the ambition and career aspirations of an ever diverse, digital and dynamic workforce with the organizational vision and values to achieve our strategic objectives. The recognition conferred on Hero MotoCorp by way of declaring us as the Winners of Golden Peacock Award in HR Excellence, is a strong testament to global acceptance of various successful and revolutionary programs initiated by us. It is all encompassing and significantly contributing to generating value for the organization and employees. More to add, the annual ‘Most Trusted Brands’ survey conducted by The Economic Times - Brand Equity has yet again ranked Hero as the Most

FROM EDITOR’S DESK

Trusted Two-Wheeler Brand in the country, we are No. 1. Our Hero MotoSports Team Rally made a very impressive debut at the Dakar Rally 2017. Both riders, CS Santosh and Joaquim Rodrigues finished the race, with JRod finishing in the top 10. CS Santosh moved ahead to finish 3rd overall at the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm Rally. The effort and passion of our riders deserve a loud round of applause! With our aim to build Leadership Pipeline across the organization, we launched “Hero Future Leaders Program” on February 20th at IMT Ghaziabad Campus. The first batch consisted of 25 Managers from different functions. The aim of this program is to provide inputs for smooth transition from Individual Contributor (IC) to Managing Others (MO) role as it is a most crucial transition in any leader’s life. February also witnessed the launch of our refreshed Learning Management System through Skillsoft E-Learning module. We are running the courses theme-wise wherein employees are

asked to complete all respective courses based on the popular theme in that particular month. We urge you to use this platform as much as you can to enhance your own skill and take the development path in your career ahead. MotoPassion, our website about the world of two-wheelers and factors impacting them has recorded 3,500+ users till now and is growing day by day which shows how MotoPassionate we are. Watch out for the new initiatives that will be taken during the course of this year. While we are moving ahead, it is also crucial to make sure everyone’s opinions are heard besides building foundational architecture for long term success. HyPhen – our engagement app that allows everyone a truly anonymous platform to voice opinions (idea, question, concern, feedback or comment) has become extremely popular with a very steady increase in traffic and subscribers within the company. Wish you all the best and we hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we did while making it with your support.

MESSAGE

Mr. Pawan Munjal

Chairman, Managing Director & CEO

05

2016 has been a momentous year for all of us, we recorded highest sales in a Calendar year, highest sales in a single day and highest ever profits in consecutive quarters. We surpassed 70mn units in cumulative sales in the 70th year of Independence of India. For 16 years, we have been the number one two wheeler manufacturing company. We were successful in digitization and were able to make a tremendous increase in our domestic and global footprint. As you may recall, at the start of the New Year, we hosted out first Townhall of the year and we kept the theme as “SOAR” which implies that as an organization, we need to continue focus on our Strengths, leverage the Opportunities, stay Aspirational and work towards achieving the desired Results so that we can plan our most preferred future. Weaknesses and threats can never be ignored, however, we can reframe them and give them the appropriate focus within the opportunities and results conversations. Ultimately it becomes a question of balance. Why not spend as much time or more on what we can do well and how we can strengthen a strategic advantage? What gives us more energy to take action? What gives us confidence to set a stretch goal and achieve results?

We should be able to work beyond our structural silos and put company’s goals above everything else. We must work as one team, we must have one focus and one objective. Ideas and their successful implementation will help us make our products more customized and more desirable in days to come. We should be ready to take ownership and deliver against all odds. Overall, we should be able to get a macro level overview of the company’s goals and mission and align our actions and energy towards that one perspective. Stay Optimistic, Stay Positive!

Achiever Coast-Guard Rally 2017 – West Bengal and Odisha Indian Coast Guard needs no introduction but deserves one. The force relentlessly guards 7500km long coast line of India from external threats like terrorism, piracy and smuggling while ensuring the safety and security of our Indian brethren and fishermen out in the sea. In turn, the fishermen act as the eyes and ears of the coast guard and help provide vital information to the force. Hence, to bridge the gap between the fishermen and themselves, the coast guard organizes a motorcycle rally every year. The team covers the coastal regions of West Bengal and Odisha and spread awareness about safety at sea and host medical camps.

This helps to build trust among the fishermen and the force and helps them to connect with each other. This year, under the purview of Hero Salutes, Hero MotoCorp participated in the rally and extended support to the coast guard by providing 10 Achiever i3s Bikes. The objective of the rally was to promote the new model: Achiever i3s in coastal regions of WB and Odisha. The idea was to establish the product as a comfortable long distance cruiser being used by Coast Guard in the coastal regions, which are otherwise media dark.

It reflected from the fact that certain belts of Jharkhand and Bihar saw a surge in demand of old Achiever when they were given to CRPF under an institutional order. The Rally was flagged off and Achiever was launched in a grand ceremony at Coast Guard’s North-Eastern wing’s HQ by ex-Air Chief Marshall, Mr. Arup Raha. The rally then went on to cover 1400kms in a span of 6 days, covering 20 of Hero’s touch points in the coastal belt. Each of the touch points in turn had various engaging activities like Achiever Launch, Rally within the town, Opinion Leader

The feedback of the activity was very positive and exciting from our channel partners and the coast guard alike. “Achiever is one of the best premium bikes I’ve ridden” mentioned Deputy Commandant Gupta who participated in the rally. “Hero feels like family!” – commented Commandant Mita, the lead of the rally who was overwhelmed by the warm welcome extended by the Hero team across the journey. Enhancing Competitiveness with Benchmarking By Eksha Agrawal, Benchmarking Team, CIT

There has been a dramatic change in the two wheeler scenario from the past few decades. Unlike few major former players like Hero, Bajaj and Honda, now the market is flooded with new entrants like Harley Davidson, UM Motors, KTM and existing players are aggressively upgrading technology, e.g., Royal Enfield, TVS, Bajaj (with Pulsar, Vikrant, Dominar) and Yamaha. This has led to a fierce competition nothing less than a battleground.

The objective of this facility is to develop deep understanding of technologies available in market like Fuel injection system, higher cc engines, Electronic control modules, On Board Diagnostics, etc. Along with this, the Idea Generation Workshops help greatly by providing innovative ideas on cost saving and vehicle weight reduction. Participation of cross function teams in these workshops ensure that quality of ideas in maintained.

The competitors have come up with products with better performance (higher power/ weight), better technology, high end features and competitive cost of ownership. While competition overall is good for market progress, it is very challenging to meet the demands of ever-changing market, especially the fast paced technological up gradation. Along with the increase in competition, there is a change in customer trend also.

The future plan of Benchmarking team is to create a digital library platform where the data generated by these workshops is stored at a centralized location and its usefulness can be leveraged for the coming years. It is also important for us as a company to be aware about these facilities and make optimum utilization as well as valuable contribution for its success.

It is imperative that while upgrading our in house techno-capability, we also keep a hawk eye on competitive products and advancements that their products have to offer. To work out better on the latter part, Hero has now a well-established Benchmarking facility at CIT, Kukas to support new model development and existing model projects. Currently, the Benchmarking facility provides support for vehicle teardown, unique feature analysis, part details analysis and Idea Generation Workshops.

Cross functional teams participating in Idea Generation Workshop held at Benchmarking Area 49

The Benchmarking facility is conceptualized by our CTO, Markus Braunsperger, and since, our company has a long term vision of R&D enhancement, this facility will definitely prove to be a shining jewel in the crown.

Beyond the Call of Duty By Team Glamour, CIT

With the first global launch of New Glamour in Argentina, Hero MotoCorp has achieved a new landmark and a big step forward towards achieving its target of selling in 50 countries by 2020. The basis of every great product is the team that builds it. The question that eludes us all is what exactly a great team is? Is it only a group of star performers focusing to deliver a product or it’s something beyond it. The “Team Glamour” is an answer to the question. The mantra of success of Team Glamour was “willingness to go beyond the call of duty”. What exactly is meant by going beyond the call of duty? Few instances where the team defined the adage were: • There are numerous instances when the team stayed beyond working hours and even during holidays to ensure the timely

delivery of milestones. • Walking that extra mile to support the CFT members, even when it was not a part individual’s KRA and knowing that nobody is around to say Attaboy! • Agreeing to disagree is the trait that the team adopted for resolving bigger conflicts and moving ahead in the project. • Above all the team embraced the differences the way other worked and communicates. • All said and done, in the end it’s the vision of the leaders that channelizes the team efforts and it was no different in this case. As Henry Ford says “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” and the Team Glamour proved it to its exact sense. The next time you see the new Glamour on the road, do remember the Team Glamour’s spirit behind who had gone “Beyond the Call of Duty” and brought this best in the class product to life.

A Sneak Peek into my World of Art By Mrs. Jyotsna Mokashi

“Never ever let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do. Prove the cynics wrong. Pity them for they have no imagination. The sky’s the limit. Your sky. Your limit. Now, let’s dance.” – Anonymous. I am not very sure where I came across this quote, but I am sure that almost every artist would swear by it. As for me, my paintings are my dance. I have been painting for almost 20 years now. While most people may call it my work, for me it is much more than just work. It is a medium which lets me express myself to the

The purpose of painting for me, is to describe my experiences or the things I see in the world in my own way. It can either be as simple as a stick figure painting in Warli art, where the beauty is not so much in the variation of form but in the intricate detailing that goes into the painting, or as complex as an abstract painting, where I may have painted the strokes having a certain idea in mind, but the viewer might have a completely different interpretation of it.

world and communicate with it. Unlike words, which might still have language barriers, my paintings give me an opportunity to reach out to anyone and everyone across the globe. When I begin painting a canvas, it gives me an opportunity to unwind and get lost in a world of my own, where there is no limit to my imagination. I usually don’t have a target in mind and I go with the flow of the painting which gives me the flexibility of experimenting with new techniques, strokes and colours.

To further my continued pursuit of happiness, I have recently opened my very own art studio in Gurgaon. The studio will give me a chance to bring innovation in my paintings and will also give me a platform to share my art with the world, and let them have a sneak peek into my world. I would be happy to arrange a viewing for anyone who is interested and would love to contribute towards the Hero family through CSR events to spread awareness about the importance of art and the difference it makes in our day to day lives.
