BUSTLER COFFEE | MIDTOWN
FIRM: Tree House Design COMPLETED: November 2015 DESCRIPTION: The concept behind Bustler was to create a unique self-serve coffee bar experience, giving busy New Yorkers an alternative to long lines at slow barista counters. This created several design challenges: mismatched and unsightly BOH kitchen equipment would be seen and used by the customer, so custom designed millwork throughout the space would be essential to create a cohesive and user-friendly aesthetic. Branding was also very important to the client, who envisioned this job as a prototype for a future chain of self-serve coffee bars. As Project Architect, I addressed these challenges by creating common horizontal elements such as uniform signage at each “station� and a continual band of LED lighting recessed into a cove which would wrap around the entire space. I produced all CAD documentation, including for DOB filing. I was also responsible for coordination between the kitchen equipment designer, millworkers, contractors, and engineers. I regularly attended site meetings, sourced finishes and lighting, and managed all aspects of the project through construction administration.
REBELLE | NOLITA FIRM: hOmE Studios COMPLETED: April 2015 DESCRIPTION: As a junior designer at hOmE Studios, I worked closely with the principals on the design at Rebelle. I was responsible for producing construction documents and detailed shop drawings of the many custom elements, including the internally illuminated back bar, and custom lighting and millwork throughout the restaurant.
My contribution to the project included exploded axonometric details to illustrate clearly the desired construction and materiality of these custom elements.
