Palm oil plantations are the main economic booster for Sitiawan, Perak. It has contributed the most economically, as it has better yield and profits compared to rubber sheets and latex. On the contrary, palm oil plantation has multiple bad impacts on the environment as well. Considering 3 of the sites chosen has above 50% of palm oil plantation, a balance between maintaining the economic factor and improving the environmental factor shall be heavily considered.

In front of the biggest tourist attraction in Kampung Pasir panjang Tua Pek Kong Temple - a very aesthetically pleasing view of a mangrove forest is present. It is a very nice sight to see, but in all wonders, it is located right at the shores of the sea. The importance of having a balance between a nice view as well as a buffer from natural disasters shall be considered.

On site, there is a present of a Fisherman’s village known as “Kampung Nelayan” It is a very bonus addition to the site as the study of the cultural aspect would be rather interesting, but there is an accumulation of flotsam and jetsam surrounding the area rubbish - because of the lack of disposal area present, here we can see that they are focusing on uprising the economy, but no actions are taken to keep the place well maintained.

One of the interesting cultural facade element that was found around the site area is the progression and adaptation of the traditional malay house. Originally, this malay houses are being lifted above ground as a step of prevention from flooding and wild animals, but today we can see that most houses have enclosed the lower area to allow more interior spaces to be present.

The Tua Pek Kong temple is a place of worship where people from around the globe comes to visit if not for tourism purposes, to seek for luck for their gambling culture. What people don’t know of this temple is that actually it is not as how it may seem. It is actually a fusion of religious practices of people from different faiths - sino malay and chinese - which dates back from the early existence of this place of worship.

Studying on the culture of the fisherman’s of Kampung Nelayan can be a very unique topic as we don’t really get to know of their daily basis of their trading system. As this village is located along the major road leading towards the kampung area, the balance of having them included in the programmatic strategy shall be considered.

DISTANT COMMUNES

This first layer shows the hypothetical flow of the site situation progressing past, present and the potential future. The whole montage is a follow through from my inital concept of assignment 1 which is the "Fulcrum of the outskirts". In this montage it represents the objectives of a suburb requiring the balance of the elements from the past and the potential of the future to improve and accentuate the economical development of the site. The middle piece of the montage represents the current situation on site which is the disconnectuvity of the community and cultures of the locals in Kampung Pasir Panjang.

PAGE 21

ROUTINE LOOP

This second layer has the same hypothetical representation of the progression on the site condition , but this time it focuses more on the daily routine of the people of Kampung Pasir Panjang which after disphering more deeper into the site, it is known that the community here has their daily dusk till dawn routine. This routine can be seen repeteadly happening in the site area with no other additional community activities.

CULTURAL ENTERTAINMENT

After dissecting the site and getting the jist of the whole situation on site, an ideation of proposing and injecting a cultural entertainment center was considered. From the 2 chosen dissection topics, it can be seen that the cultures of the site community are very independent in their own community hence not having any sort of interaction with one another, therefore, with the injection of a cultural cnter, it would be a stepping stone for the community to achieve a balance of the interection between each other and at the same time increase their historical background knowledge. Finally encouraging a knowldge spurred economy.
