This is positive because it helps us to cope more effectively with certain situations, and it can even save our lives at certain times. The problem comes when the stress becomes chronic, because this can cause damage to our organism and unfortunately this is very common in the world in which we live. A study that analyzed the results of more than 300 scientific studies concluded that adrenal fatigue can damage the immune system, and also has seen that stress contributes to obesity and diabetes.

What happens when we suffer stress? Before you explain this, it is important to talk about the adrenal glands. These glands are located on the upper part of the kidneys and are responsible for secreting hormones very important for the functioning of our organism: hormones related to stress and sex hormones among others. The adrenal glands work alongside the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland of the brain in what is known as the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. When we get stressed, our adrenal glands secrete two hormones mainly: adrenaline and cortical and cause several reactions in our body: they increase blood pressure, increase the heartbeat, and this makes more Chances of blood clot-forming. Also releasing these hormones causes fat storage to increase, causing weight gain in the long run. In general, the consequences are very negative for our organism. Cortisol is also related to blood sugar regulation and insulin control. In fact, when stress levels increase, more insulin is secreted and if this situation becomes chronic it can lead to the well-known metabolic syndrome characterized by overweight, insulin resistance and, ultimately, type 2 diabetes.

Adrenal fatigue is not a disease itself, but rather a syndrome that occurs when the adrenal glands cannot handle the high levels of stress that it is subjected to and stops producing hormones efficiently, causing a hormonal imbalance.
