HI!

I’m Adriana. Nice to meet you. Let me introduce myself a bit better. I am an architect and urban designer with around 2 years of professional experiance. I am currently based in Finland at Jolma Architects, where I am working on architecture and urban design projects, involved in all stages of design, working on competitions, private client projects and also creating projects for municipalities. I am a Master’s student at Lund University and will graduate in September 2021. My specialization is sustainable urban design and I feel there is no better time than now to implement this philosophy in the future projects. Besides my interests in architecture and urban design, I am also passionate about photography and fashion. I also love to travel because it allows me to meet new people and cultures, which I find to be one of the most inspiring things. I hope you enjoy the following pages with some of my latest works.

is island back to people-

regeneration process of the post-industrial island

MSc thesis project / 2021 individual project Lund University Szczecin / Poland

7

Nowadays, there is a general trend towards the regeneration process of waterfronts. It consists of a return to active use of port areas located within port cities, abandoned during the rapid industrialization of seaports and the development of containerization and other maritime transport technologies based on the use of large ships. Vacant land acquired in this way is generally located where the port and city originated, i.e. in city centers. These areas are usually characterized by access to shallow port basins. They are often old urban waterfronts with intensive, but largely decapitalized land development. As such, the value of these areas is potentially high, although diminished prior to redevelopment due to the disappearance or reduction of port functions. The reason for the intensive penetration of old port areas is their perceived universal attractiveness in terms of location, which is expressed both in measurable functional values and in intangible, but currently valued cultural values. Project: Island back to people, presents a vision of a new, reborn island, part of the regeneration process, which was originally the heart of the city’s industrial power and the base tissue of the identity of Szczecin, with which everyone associated the city. I present the problem of losing the city’s identity, and lacking a strong connection with water, even though originally that was one of the strongest features of the city.

proposed activities

New art hub, based on the vision to renew and revitalize existing granaries. In this area, the idea is to create a public, artistic zone with many restaurants, pubs, local craft stores, shops, vintage stores and design offices. A place that is connected to the island from the very beginning, that will promote the culture and heritage of the city as well as give a new post-industrial character to the island, accessible to everybody. A place that will be a new, important point on the map of Szczecin.

The sports center wa need for an urban located closer to the lacks outdoor sports ce For this reason, in the a place for the realiza outdoor sports. There park, gym, and basket

as designed with the recreational center e downtown. The city enters and skate parks. project, I also present ation of equal kinds of will be located: skate tball court.

The public square is the part where roads from different directions meet. It is a place to gather and relax next to the water. A place where residential buildings meet office buildings. The square is adjacent to the water’s edge where cafes, restaurants, and small local stores are located around. The above-mentioned functions located around, work to the advantage of the square and make it lush and lively all year round.

detailed plan - public square

The public square located in the heart of the island is the center of the urban tissue of the site. It combines the function of an urban square, surrounded by various cafés and restaurants and a transitional place between one waterfront and the other. It is also a unique point on the map of Łasztownia because it shows the buildings of the past, linked to the identity of the island, mixed with a new urban structure that refers to the historical buildings but complements it by adding an innovative approach. The entire range of the island’s history is presented in one place. Taking this into account I wanted to strengthen the importance of the main square and give it new functions.

It is intended that the main square, as well as the other public squares located on the island, are flexible in their adapting possibilities. As my research into the current uses of the island indicates, even though the island is currently inaccessible and uninviting, people still frequent it for its flea markets, food festivals, and meeting places. With this in mind, I felt that an important aspect of the design of this space would be to facilitate the flow of communication, but also, to give people the opportunity to stop and take in the atmosphere, as well as a create flexible space where the public realm could be easily adapted to host a variety of community events, festivals and outdoor art exhibitions.

The Cetecean project is a project mainly focused on combining the function of a sauna with a floating summer house. It was made for Cireco company and will be build in Nokia city. The project is made in the process of sustainable design as it includes various technologies that focus on the use of renewable energy sources. The project itself is sustainable and designed with an ecological approach in mind, as the primary basis of construction is recycled shipping containers. The dynamic façade of the building gives it an interesting form and in itself performs various additional functions such as storage, or hiding a ladder to a terrace on the roof of one of the containers. The project itself is a prelude to a series of such realizations of saunas on water, which in the future will also occur in other sizes.

In the tradition of Eco Moyo’s philosophy, this proposal carries its intentions to provide better spaces for the inhabitants. The form and structure create comfortable environment with a variety of functions inside. The round shape provides unlimited solutions to organize the space. It gives possibilities to have separate spaces inside, intended to ensure variety of functions such as school, library, and relaxing spaces, created for different group sizes. Those qualities are located around courtyard, but inside, in the central hub, you can find security, local garden to teach kids how to take care of plants. There is enough space to organize some games to build unity and social relations between the inhabitants. Outside, there are stairs that connect to the football field and provide you to watch the game. Our proposal could be treated as a part of future expansion around the site to create a future better life. diagram possibilities of groups organization

kylä

YAC / 2021 competition Jolma Architects role: project leader Rovaniemi / Finland

34

small community image

Kylä responds to the various needs of tourists coming to Rovaniemi, which connects to the heritage of Sami’s culture. The original Sami culture enhances the community concept as part of their identity, where they always meet next to the fire to eat, play, and celebrate together. This forms a driving force for the proposal. Kylä offers three different scales of community, while maintaining individual privacy. All of these communities represent a similar aim of creating social spaces where people can meet and spend time together, being close to nature similar to the Sami people. Kylä works with three different community scales: SmallScale Community; Medium and Large. The Small-Scale Community is the residents of each cabin. People can spend time being close to nature and enjoying time spent together on their terrace. The Medium-Scale Community is based on a courtyard vision, where people from all the surrounding cabins could meet. The central space offers opportunities to sit, organise a shared meal or just enjoy time together. The Large-Scale Community encompasses the whole resortincluding the largest building located inthe northern part of the site. This main building also provides some additional rooms for families or people with disabilities, where they can have easy access to the common dining area. The site, itself is also laid out as an open-air art park, with a central exhibition space located at the heart of the community. The form of the main hotel building works with the terrain, blending with it and creating a less visible footprint, while also offering an accessible rooftop, for guests to meet and enjoy the extraordinary northern lights. From inside the building commanding views to the south also offer a warm, cosy option for viewing the northern lights. As an art hotel, Kylä presents a vision of a community hotel, surrounded by secluded and peaceful cabins offering direct access to nature.

In my proposal, I tried to present a balanced approach to design in harmony with nature. In the analyze I focused mostly on housing types of residences in Angelholm, and how they commute daily. The fundings were really surprising because I discover that most of the people live in villas and they travel by car. Looking on that the strategy of my proposal is about breaking with the habit of commuting mostly by car and give residents the opportunity to travel more, by using public transport. The second pillar of the strategy is, to provide more housing apartments in blocks. It unites people more and creates social communities. The other strategies are: shaping social life and densifying, wich both assumes to supplement other parts of the proposal. The vision of the project focuses on satisfying the needs of city residents, which I found, are currently the missing elements. The proposal assumes, first of all, increasing the number of population and density in the design area, focusing primarily on creating various options for apartment blocks. In addition, the project also focuses on expanding public transport lines, by adding more connections and bus stops. Moreover the project strategy assumes to make new job spaces with the possibility of close residence, which promotes a sustainable living lifestyle and more car-free zone. Besides that my proposal promotes the vibrant lifestyle by creating new, social tissues, bringing up new urban flows of the private, semi-private, and public zones of the site.

e climate smart in Malmo climate smart & architecture / 2020 group project Lund University Malmö

53

The concept of the project was to create a comfortable architectural solution that will favor pleasant residence in apartments located in a fairly windy area of the city of Malmo. The project is based on previously created climate analyzes. The structure of the buildings was justified by data generated from the analysis of wind and sun, where in the results we could have an accurate insight into how the designed area will affect common climate change. The design site is located in Malmo, in close proximity to the train station and harbor. When creating an analysis of neighboring programs, we noticed that the designed space is highly valuable in the diversity of surrounding features such as schools, shops and parks. These factors motivated the creation of the project with a variety of typologies, social structures and with strengthening of existing values in a given design space. The project proposal envisages strengthening the main street that runs along the entire zone in social values by adding various programs on the ground floor of the buildings such as restaurants, cafes and shops which are located in the most sunny area of the zone. The project also presents the enhancement of bicycle transport, because as we have seen around the design zone, bicycle lines are very well developed around it. Finally, the project was created taking into account climate change, reducing wind and giving the most opportunity to enjoy the sun in the most effective and economical way, without losing the maintenance of the project in an interesting and unique climate.
