case study: waterford fire station architects: Mccullough Mulvin Architects location: waterdord, ireland

ground floor: apparatus bay and suports

it has a double skin that helps the building stay cool with the shade that it provides, but also with the wind circulating through.

2

the station had a spine that organized spaces. steel framing structure with a reninforced concrete wall as support.

second and third: office , study and recreation

Ahwatukee Foothills Village Phoenix, AZ

station #62 will founds itslef in the middle of a growing suburbian community and a desert landsccape with wonderfull scenes. the site is located southwest of south mountain park. this area is the drainage of the mointain making it more rocky and slope more dramaticaly. ahuwatukee is expanding, but their aproaches are based in pure development strategies. regarless of the lack of connection between the architecure and the landscape, the community embreasses the desert.

insertion into the landscape an insertion that worked with the landscape, climate, and culture of the place could be a fit for this alluring site. these insertions could guide the program, circulation, services, and structure. consequentlty having a responsive relationship with the landscape. the biggest forces affecting the insertions are the natural and cultural environments in which it lies. the south exposure will require the insertions to shade themselves. with the mountains wind drafts, the insertions can open up letting air flow through and light fills the space. the recreation services of the park will bring more foot traffic through the station. Since that is a key aspect of the community culture, the station could extend its services and connect with the hiking paths creating a relationship with the community. the fire station programmatic elements will be placed between the insertions having a relationship between them and nature. 5
