We are delighted to welcome Viviane Robinson for this year's flagship event. Viviane's presentation will explain how leaders at all levels can increase their impact on student outcomes by focusing on five types of leadership practice. She describes the evidence for these five practices, provides rich examples of each, and shows how they work in real school contexts. Viviane is passionate about doing research that makes a difference to practice. Her lecture draws on the Best Evidence synthesis on Educational Leadership (2007) and her recent book, 'Student-Centered Leadership' (2011).

Biography Viviane is a Distinguished Professor in the Faculty of Education at The University of Auckland and Academic Director of its Centre for Educational Leadership. She is the author of five books and numerous chapters and journal articles on school improvement, leadership and the relationship between research and the improvement of practice. In her latest book entitled “Student-Centered Leadership� she presents a compelling account of how school leaders can make a bigger difference to student outcomes and the knowledge and skills they need to do so. Viviane is a frequent visitor to England where she holds a position as Visiting Professor at the London Centre for Leadership in Learning in the Institute of Education. She has consulted on leadership development to the National College of School Leadership and been a Visiting Professor at Sussex, Bath and Cambridge universities. She has received awards from national and international professional organisations including the Australian Council for Educational Leaders, the New Zealand Secondary Principals Association and the US-based University Council on Educational Administration. In 2011 she was made a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association for sustained excellence in educational research.
