School Leadership for Public Value: Understanding valuable outcomes for children, families and communities by Denis Mongon, Visiting Professorial Fellow, LCLL and Charles Leadbeater, April 2012, IOE Press This title is a timely contribution to the debate about the purpose and structure of schooling in England. The book describes how some schools enhance pupil attainment by creating strong alliances with their neighbourhood communities. The authors argue that schools working like these are writing a 'new story' for education which abandons institutional isolation and recreates powerful and positive relationships between communities and their schools . For advance orders: Challenging the dominant market-led model of education: From Exam Factories to Communities of Discovery: The democratic route by Frank Coffield and Bill Williamson, November 2011, IOE Press This book is a radical and innovative analysis of education in modern societies and particularly England. It argues for a major change both in education and curriculum to deal with such threats to our collective well-being as environmental damage; intensified global competition; corrosive social inequalities; and the need for a new, just and sustainable economic model. Frank Coffield is Emeritus Professor of Education at the Institute of Education, University of London (IOE).
