Membership information In 2012, we celebrate our 15th anniversary! To mark this, we are londoncentre@ioe.ac.uk running a number of events. I am also pleased to let you know that the IOE has created a new role of Assistant Director for Partnerships with schools and colleges LCLL Autumn events (all at the IOE) – and absolutely delighted to say that I will be undertaking this role! Introduction to Mentoring and Coaching We are running our ever popular 2 day course, Introduction to Mentoring and Coaching, with Max Coates on 17th and 18th November. You will gain an understanding of the concept of Mentoring and Coaching, have opportunities to practice the key skills required and develop competency in the use of mentoring and coaching within pedagogy and leadership. We also offer this course internationally. ‘(The) sessions were very helpful in allowing me to gain a theoretical underpinning and deepen my understanding of mentoring and coaching….I found myself learning more, especially during the practical activities’. Published research Prepared to Lead: How schools, federations and chains grow education leaders by Peter Matthews, Rob Higham, Louise Stoll, Janet Brennan and Kathryn Riley, Institute of Education, published by National College, 2011 LCLL were delighted to carry out this research on behalf of the National College. Some of the key findings are: the biggest contribution to school leadership development lies in providing rich and varied opportunities to lead the best school leaders provide strong leadership role models and share their expertise through effective coaching and mentoring direct or indirect leadership of learning and improvement of teaching tops the agenda of senior leaders in highly effective schools and school partnerships.
Effective Practices in Continuing Professional Development – Lessons from schools Peter Earley and Vivienne Porritt
Tailored leadership programmes for health and social care professionals Building on our established track record in education, we are now extending our suite of tailored leadership development programmes to the health and social care sectors. This year has seen the launch of new programmes for clinical and non-clinical middle leaders within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust and for social work practice managers in the London Borough of Southwark. Both programmes feature face to face sessions combined with online and blended learning approaches. They are developed in close partnership with clients so they are context specific and enable practitioners to identify and achieve impact on their personal leadership practice as well as outcomes for service users and patients. International Advanced course for teacher educators: This term, LCLL plays host to a 12 week course for a group of teacher educators from Indonesia. The 15 member group is drawn from universities across Indonesia and all are lecturers or senior lecturers. This is part of a programme by the Indonesian government to upgrade its teacher education provision linked to a policy to ensure all future teachers will be graduates. As course leader, Dr. Roy Gardner holds extensive experience of working in Indonesia, as well as many other countries. Working and engagement with bilingual young people A study in attitudes to languages in England and Wales: Who needs the languages of immigrants? by D.
