Adrián Marmolejo Clarhed Architect & Artist Architecture and art have always been related for me. When I was a child, I started drawing houses and towns, imaginary castles, seascapes…where landscape and location where always very present. At the age of seven, I started to paint in the studio of the Belgian painter Annette Deletaille, who always insisted in capturing instants from the reality. This artistic vision, but always looking at perspective and understanding the environment, has helped me to develop a strong spatial vision. Starting an architectural project, imagining its spaces; is like going back to those imaginary castles, a game that is always different and traps you again and again. I think I could contribute to a group of work with a high understanding of complex programme proposals and urban issues, with a good graphic layout presentation and a careful design in the last details.

The proposal in relation with the archeological garden

study centre and archaeological service in the garden of peñapartida, granada (spain) Heritage and landscape Academic work: Architecture School of Granada (ETSA Granada). Final master architecture degreeproject 2014/2016 Abstract The purpose of this final project, is to build a Study Centre and Archeological Service in the archeological garden of Peñapartida, really close to la Alhambra moorish palace, in Granada. This Centre will have both public spaces for the visitors as exposition rooms, workshops, library. café... and private ones for the workers as Archeological Service, archive, offices... Everything is merged in the same building, trying to have a sense of continuity in the whole proposal and connecting it as much as possible with the exterior. The building works as part of the envelop of the archeological garden, being part of the wall, an inhabited wall. In Spanish ‘adarve’ means a perimetral wall, normally from ancient times.

-Territorial circulations and communicative axis Scale 1/10000

Circulations and functions 3 types of circulations: garden visitors, building visitors and workers, trying not to overlap them. The most public ones are near the Peñapartida Square, located in the south-east part of the garden. The building works in a very flexible way. The different parts can be closed or opened depending on the needs. This minimizes energy usage and staff workers needed.

Project strategies 1. The Alhambra urban plans expect the most connection as possible between the proposal and the surroundings, this is why it is extended along the south façade of the garden, making the building more permeable towards the outside. 2. It is a real coincidence, that precisely this south façade was an old Nasri wall in Granada. Rebuilding this wall again reinforces this idea. You can still se part of a tower buried inside the existing house. 3. Studying the morpholofy of a ‘Carmen’ in Granada, I found that the buildings are always in the border of the plot, leaving the inside for the development of the garden.

Building and urban design strategies

GUARD AND instruction court in ‘Carretera de la sierra’, granada (spain) Complex programme building and public space Academic work: Architecture School of Granada (ETSA Granada) 2010/2011

Abstract The situation of this central Court building proposal for the city of Granada in between the limits of the urban tissue and the countryside, determines definetely its form. It decreases gradually starting from a massive tower that evidences the importance of the buiding and ends in a one-floor volume that connects with the river and the public space.

View from the street ‘Carretera de la Sierra’, urban façade

10

The project title is due to the intersection between two main volumes: the horizontal one that hosts the public uses (court rooms, guard court, wedding hall...) and the vertical one, where you can find the private ones (instruction courts for example).

Circulations and uses The complex progamme requiered, influences the building form and produces de optimization of circulations trying to solve them avoiding inappropiate confrontations e.g. prisoners versus judges. The first strategy lies in separating the circulations horizontally (same level). The public circulations are placed next to the public exterior space and the privates ones on the back of the building, both connected by controlled passages. Circulations are also segregated vertically. Public uses are located in the ground floor while private ones are found on upper floors.

The drecreasing structure of levels and patios, continues outside, giving form to the public space.

ďż˝ Materials The structure of the building consists in a one-directional metallic structure (IPE for beams and 2UPN for columns). The building envelope is solved with metallic panels fixed to a sub-structure and glass under it for the tower, and with the grc-stud frame system for the rest of the horizontal part of the building. The rooftops are solved with adjustable plots that make possible a floodable cover.

HANDICAPED CENTRE in ‘het dorp’, arnhem (holland) Complex programme building and public space Academic work: Architecture School of Leuven K.U. Masterplan and given proposal

Heights of buildings decrease from 8 levels to only one, integrating them with the surrounding landscape.

13

The proposal tries to put together the different parts that were given in the masterplan to make an unique complex. The platform that forms a loop creates a square inside it and a real view level with many activities happen. Functions A-Commercial centre/housing B-Medical services/sport C-Restaurant D-Kindergarden E-Atelier/workshop Form -High buildings near main road. Gives idea of urban street. -Closed square with view to open field. -Idea of everything seen as the same building (unity or complex).

ďż˝ Residential units The interaction between inhabitants is even present in the residential units, where different type of units are combined in the same floor to not provocate segregation. Both residential units (SIZA housing for handicapped people) and private market houses (2 stories) combine in the way we can observe in the section, creating a dynamic facade. The public levels, including shops, bike repair, sport centre... enhances this public feeling.

NEW USES IN THE EASTERN OUTSKIRTS OF MURCIA (SPAIN) New urban development in the outskirts of a big city Architecture School of Granada (ETSA Granada) Collaboration with Isabel Muñoz Cámara and Daniel Usero Guerrero 2009/2010 Abstract The intervention’s aim is to create a mixture of uses, that’s why we assign the title of ‘miscelanea’ . A new center, where residential, finantial, cultural and leisure uses are combined to breath life into this part of the city and the surrounding areas.

We propose a mixture of functions in a general level but ‘zonifiction’ in particular areas, so incompatible uses such as sleeping and leisure do not disturb each other. The residential structure is defined by groups of dwellings of 3 heights and only one central bay and an entrance for each two of them.

gREAT SCALE URBAN PROPOSAL ALONG THE JUNCARIL STREAM, GRANADA (SPAIN) Great scale urban proposal Academic work: Architecture School of Granada (ETSA Granada) Collaboration with Daniel Usero Guerrero 2010/2011

Abstract Along the history, the city growth and the territorial occupancy have not taken into accout the elements that really give sense to the territorial structure, like the hydrographic paths. Starting from an earlier analysis, we decide to intervene along the Juncaril stream, that starts in Alfacar and flows across the towns of Jun and Pulianas to finally end in the Genil river. We try though to regenerate the river basin by means of different proposals with their own identity according to their situation and functions.

19

Principal axis of relation P1-A high zone before Jun, where the premises are hiking, pedestrian walks related to sport uses, picnic area and staying outdoor zones . P2-Highlight of the complete riverbanks of The Juncaril stream, including the villages Pulianas and Pulianillas. These villages have grown without considering the Juncaril and we propose to provide these voids with institutional uses, public space... while the river vaults are uncovered to show the river again.

P3-Itinerary between Pulianas and the Asegra industrial park and intersection with the highway A-44. Uses as ecologic agriculture, rural accomodations... P4-Revaluation of the contact between the Asegra industrial park and the river. Itinerary related with industrial uses, such as exposition of products...The workers are also provided with some comfort areas as restaurants, relaxing zones...

Secondary axis S1-Axis of services and equipment/institutional. It is located in the border of Pulianas, in which one of the routes that communicate with Granada is provided with uses. S2-Leisure-touristic axis. It communicates Asegra with the village of Peligros. It contains functions that go from rural accomodations, equestrain itineraries, to hostels/accomodations, social housing...

Architecture School of Granada (ETSA Granada) Collaboration in this work. Head investigators: Cabrera Manzano, David; Huertas, Miguel 2014/2015

Adrián Marmolejo Clarhed

amclarhed@gmail.com

Abstract We propose, with this ‘micro-project’ about cultural itineraries of the urban patrimony of Granada, the beggining of an investigation centered in the ‘tiny’ and the value of the ‘specific’; the documentation and the experience based in the knowledge of the places we live in, about the processes of construction and transformation that have taken place in Granada; the study of the evolution of historic plots, the uses and the urban tissue, the different social and historical episodes that have been materialized in places and specifical architectural features within the city. We consider this work a pending task in this city, and without any doubt, its complexion and improvement would be a great contribution to the cultural heritage of the city. Granada has been approached studying its water, ancient walls, markets and squares, historical paths... helping to discover its hidden urban heritage.

Gran Vía Maybe this is the environment that has suffered a major transformation in Granada. Layers are yuxtaposed from Nasri times until now. The old Aljama Mosque, with its demolishment leads to the Sagrario church. Close to it, the great cathedral from the renaissance, built by Diego de Siloé, and buildings such as ‘La Alhóndiga’ and ‘La Madraza’. We can also look at buildings as ‘El Corral del Carbón, a corn-exchange building from the XIV century. From the 1900’s, observe the impressive cut of the opening of ‘La Gran Vía’, destroying buildings as the Convento of ‘Ángel Custodio’ or the building of the Spanish Bank. In red the ancient times and in white and black the contemporary days.

8. ‘ABC-UGR’ ACCESS PAVILION to THE ORIENTATION DAYS FOR STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GRANADA Temporary pavilion for students Competition: Alonso Cano, architecture modality 1st price Architecture school of Granada. (ETSA Granada) 2014

Abstract The access pavilion must be understood as an open hall that works like a preview to the following ones of the different organisms of the University of Granada. In this sense, it is meant to be useful offering practical information to students that arrive a bit disoriented for the first time to the event. This is why the pavilion, besides offering shadows and a meeting point, tries to be an informative index and map for all the students. A code of colours will be guiding them through the different degrees the could study. These colours will also form a play of light and shades inside the pavilion.

It is designed in just one line that folds from the solid part, goes across the bench and finishes in the corbel, giving a sense of ingravity in this last part because of the contrast. Geometry It is composed by a solid block of granite, the one that forms the bench. Next to it we put a granite planter that holds the garden vegetation. Materials It combines the robustness and durability of a material such as the granite and the warmth of the wood. Iroko wood and grey Quintana granite will be used. Stainless steel for the fixation of the wood plates to the granite.

DETACHED HOUSE IN ZAIDÍN district, GRANADA (spain) Single family house for a fotographer and his mother Architect: Jorge Mingorance Infographics: Adrián Marmolejo 2015 Abstract This detached house is located in a quiet neighbourhood in the Zaidín district of Granada. The house had to be renewed. The client’s mother was getting old and no longer could go up and down the stairs so easily. The ground floor is meant to be her part of the residence. Everything is open and connected to the garden, so it can then be enjoyed most part of the time. The first floor is going to be the son’s photography studio, requiring open space and good light.

Geometry and materials The geometry is very similar to the original house, but everything is covered by an unique grey monolayer mortar, giving it a sense of continuity. In the inside we have wood plates on the floor and white plastic paint for the walls. There are filters for the windows and doors, made in aluminium.
