Biden condemns Russian attack on Ukraine, orders more troops to Europe by Jim Garamone Department of Defense News
President Joe Biden condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine and has imposed sanctions on the renegade nation and its leaders. The president has also authorized the deployment of more U.S. troops from the United States to Europe, to reassure NATO allies of America’s commitment to their collective defense. “The Russian military has begun a brutal assault on the people of Ukraine without provocation, without justification, without necessity,” the president said during a White House statement today. “This is a premeditated attack. Vladimir Putin has been planning this for months.” Biden said the Russian leader ordered more than 175,000 troops that he had amassed along Russia’s border with Ukraine and inside Russian ally Belarus to strike. Biden called the Russian invasion a “needless conflict” and denounced the Russian leader for turning away from dialogue and diplomacy to avoid bloodshed. “For weeks — for weeks — we have been warning that this would happen,” Biden said. “And now it’s unfolding largely as we predicted.”

The president laid the blame for this conflict at the feet of the Russian leader. “Putin is the aggressor,” he said. “Putin chose this war, and now he and his country will bear the consequences.” In addition to outlining a series of sanctions on Russia and its leaders, Biden is also ensur-
ing the defense of NATO’s frontline states: the Baltic Republics, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria. “Tomorrow, NATO will convene a summit [and] will be there to bring together the leaders of 30 allied nations and close partners to affirm our solidarity, and to map out the next steps we will take to
further strengthen all aspects of our NATO alliance,” he said. Biden stressed that American forces will not fight in Ukraine. “Our forces are not and will not be engaged in a conflict with Russia in Ukraine,” he said. “Our forces are not going to Europe to fight in Ukraine, but to defend our NATO
allies and reassure those allies in East. As I made crystal clear, the United States will defend every inch of NATO territory with a full force of American power.” The president said NATO is united and more determined than ever. “There is no doubt — no doubt — that the United States and every NATO ally will meet our Article Five commitments, which says an attack on one is an attack on all,” he said. Over the past few weeks, Biden has ordered thousands of American troops to Europe to defend NATO and reassure allies. He has authorized the shifting of troops within U.S. European Command to the Baltic Republics, Poland, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. “Now, I’m authorizing additional U.S. force capabilities to deploy to Germany as part of NATO’s response, including some the U.S. based forces that the Department of Defense placed on standby weeks ago,” the president said. He said he is in constant contact with Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Army Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, “should it become necessary to protect our NATO allies and support the greatest military alliance in the history of the world, NATO.”

Ramstein: Redefining key spouse Key Spouses help identify and resolve issues and conflicts at the lowest level. The Key Spouse Program provides a spouse with an increased awareness of the installation and community resources.

spouse program as a networking opportunity for participants. The symposium’s goals were to foster the sharing of ideas, tools and best practices. During the event, a team of key spouses, key spouse mentors, first sergeants, and unit leadership discussed and addressed the strengths and weaknesses of the program. Groups sought viable solutions to communication, participation, and engagement issues. The Key Spouses Program enhances the mission and personal readiness by providing an avenue for two-way communication between unit leadership and families. A Key Spouse is a volunteer selected and appointed in writing by unit commanders to serve as an official unit representative, role model, and conduit of accurate information to unit spouses. The Key Spouses communicate unit information and community resources to families through leadership and community connections. Key Spouses also act as an advocate for families. The first-of-its-kind symposium was an example of the 86th Airlift Wing’s first line of effort: Develop Airmen and Care for Families. Wing leadership stressed the importance
of the event, as they continue to seek new opportunities to create connection across Ramstein AB. “Our spouses are an integral part of our Airman team,” said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Charmaine Kelley, 86th Airlift Wing command chief. “Your voice matters, and we can make things happen together.” The KSP provides a spouse with an increased awareness of the installation and community resources. In addition, key Spouses help identify and resolve issues and conflicts at the lowest level. “We have a mission, and you’re only successful at that mission if you got 110% from everybody at home and those that put on the uniform,” said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Josh Olson, 86th Airlift Wing commander. The KSP aims to create a sense of community, raises awareness for base resources, and actively helps families through deployments with an adequate communication flow between leadership and unit families; the KSP encourages spouses to create healthy relationships with units they belong to. The 86th Airlift Wing prioritizes the development and care of its personnel above all else, with the goal of creating Adaptive Airmen… Ready to Execute. EXP March 31, 2022

SACEUR statement on activation of NATO Response Force by General Tod D. Wolters Supreme Allied Commander Europe
SHAPE, BELGIUM – Over the past few months, NATO Allies and European partners have remained unified in opposition to threats against peace and security in Europe. In response to Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine, the Alliance has operationally aligned its maritime, land, air, space, and cyber forces to defend our NATO sovereignty. With the response plans approved by the North Atlantic Council and in line with the evolving security environment, we are now employing elements of the NATO Response Force. This is a historic moment and the very first time the Alliance has employed these high readiness forces in a deterrence and defence role. They represent a flexible, combat credible force that can be employed in multiple ways and we are utilizing fully their inherent agility. These deterrence measures are prudent and enhance our speed, responsiveness and capability to shield and protect the one billion citizens we swore to protect. We are grateful to our allies Canada and the United States for their recent commitments to deploy an additional 7,460 troops, including an armored brigade combat team, artillery units, a naval frigate, and surveillance aircraft, to support this Alliance-wide effort. As NATO establishes this enhanced vigilance on the Alliance’s eastern flank, Allied military forces will posture and exercise to increase our readiness and interoperability. Your soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines stand ready to protect every meter of Allied territory. We admire the courage and tenacity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and citizens in defending their country. The Alliance remains steadfast in our collective commitment to shield and protect each other. Moving forward, we are prepared to leverage the strength of all our forces to defend the Alliance.

In 1974, the Vietnam war was officially winding down, the Cold War was heating up, and HansJuergen Becker was looking for something fulfilling to occupy his time before and after his mandatory German military conscription as a Signal soldier. The Miesau Ammunition Depot was calling. It is February 1974: Barbara Streisand, John Denver, Steve Miller Band and Elton John ruled the radio, Walter Cronkite was your news source, and the internet was a vision only in a science fiction novel. And it’s the first time Juergen arrives at the Depot in a sea of solid olive drab uniforms. The Depot was near its peak of activity with nearly 1500 ammo and support workers, compared to its current state with 110. Becker said “my very first task when hired was not very glamourous.... I had to move a pile of wood from point A to point B by hand, moving it out of the rain into a covered structure to protect it from mold. Today, we have an incredible fleet of forklifts to handle such routine duties.” Juergen remembers those days, and has seen changes he could never have imagined during his 48 years of service to the US Army. After a lifetime spent at the Miesau Ammo Depot, culminating with his service as the Deputy Director for his final 14 years, his departure will be bittersweet. “I’ll greatly miss the sense of contribution I have felt these many years, helping NATO and USAREUR maintain the longest peace that Europe has known

in its history. I’ll especially miss my Miesau colleagues and working with Soldiers.” There have been fewer than 3 workers that have achieved 48 or more years of service exclusively at ACE since its inception in 1949. He worked his way through the ranks, from initial entry as a supply clerk, to inventory accountability, supervisory roles, and eventually the Deputy. And he did so at the highest levels of competence, earning the USARUER Disabled Employee of the year in 2004. “When I was considering Miesau, many of my friends were at Bosch and other manufacturers, but after just a short time in Miesau before I fulfilled my Military commitment, I knew ammunition was the field I wanted to pursue. your task at the Depot, you know that you have a direct effect on one of the most important commodities in the Army, and unit training and readiness is achieved thanks to ammo operations everywhere.” Mr. Becker has helped Miesau support every major military operation, from Desert Storm, to Bosnia, to Afghanistan to Iraq. Bosnia being one of the toughest, because the huge demands came very soon after the Depot’s drawdown just a few years before, where a great many experienced operators were lost. As Christmas drew near in busy winter of 1995, Mr. Becker was so committed to the Bosnia mission, that he never made time to get a Christmas tree for his family. As his close friend and fellow ACE legend Falk Deckert recalled, “His colleagues ‘secured’ a Depot tree for him, tied it down to his vehicle while he worked, and for good measure, added a convoy rotating amber light on his vehicle to keep the Polizei happy. Family crisis averted!” Juergen remembers the emotional trauma when the Depot was significantly drawn down after the Cold War, losing 224 people in 1988 and 852 in 1990. “It was easily the toughest phase of my Miesau career, but like every good organization, we rose from the chaos to be as strong as ever in future years.” A Greek philosopher (Heraclitus) said “change is the only constant in life,” and Juergen’s experience at Miesau has been no different.

civilian management. This organization was formed from the residual Table of Distribution and Allowances (TDA) force structure from three organizations in two countries, all of which were either part of inactivating or restructuring organizations. He was tasked to accept these subactivities, transform the workforce from military-civilian mix to a pure civilian workforce, form a new HQ structure, and then forge this collection of personnel with no coherent organizational identity into a highly functional team. Jürgen was the corner stone to our success in the transformation and restructure of Ammunition Center Europe. His steadfast demeanor and unwavering aspirations to for the organizations success was infectious to all in his midst.” “Becker is a legend in the Army European ammunition community,” said Christopher J Roscoe, the current Director of ACE. “He was just as dedicated to his work on his final day 31 January 2022 as when I arrived 7 years ago. He cares deeply about the people and the organization, and has always put them before himself. His leadership will be sorely missed, but the ski slopes and Andrea Berg concerts are calling!” In a situation right out of an episode from the 1948-1961 TV series “This is Your Life,” Juergen recently made time to visit with Traudel Grinda, the person that hired him into ACE all those many years ago back in 1974. He remembers her turning him away at the time, because there were no positions. After he had already left the building, Traudel was yelling out her office window into the parking lot for Juergen to return, as she had missed a recently available position. And the rest is 48 years of history excellence. As Becker prepares for a life after the U.S. Army, he hopes that he has had the same impact on others that they have had on him. “I would not change anything.”

Do you have a little party animal on your hands? A curious cat who can’t stop bouncing around the room? A sneaky fox who disappears in the store when you turn your back for a nano second? A flight risk in the parking lot (did somebody say Sonic the Hedgehog)? How on earth can you “get out there” and get your errands done, when your kiddo is moving in 1,000 different directions? Here are a few tips from a pediatric occupational therapist that are worth a try: 1) Warm up: Don’t go to the commissary cold. Don’t try the mall without being prepped. Help your child get his energy out before a big errand or outing. Spend a few minutes at the playground. Have him jump on the bed for a bit. Let him ride his scooter in the neighborhood before getting in the car. 2) Job: Give your child a simple jobs, like holding coupons to give to the cashier or choosing the shopping cart or holding the produce bag while you fill it up. Even the tiniest task can feel like a big deal to your child. By nature, kids want to be helpful, so give them a job! 3) Mouth: Did you know that the mouth is the most primitive way for a human to self-regulate? Give your child something to do that requires jaw work. For a little one, that can mean a pacifier or teether. For a bigger kid, that can be a wad of gum, a chewy German pretzel or some beef jerky. Don’t forget the straws! Straws are a very simple way to calm and organize the brain. Give your child a sports bottle with a big straw. 4) Scavenger hunt: Give your
child a list of things to find in the store. For little kids, this might be pictures of things like a grocery cart, someone with a hat, a banana, a red car, etc. For bigger kids, give them their own short grocery list of things that can be reached on the bottom shelves, like flour, toilet paper, bottled water. There are visual grocery apps, like “Bring”, that can make it easy to organize. 5) Carry: Give your child something to carry, like a reusable grocery bag that he fills with some items in the store. A backpack is especially good for younger kids, because they can pack it ahead of time with snacks, toys, books. The weight of the bag or backpack can have a calming effect and can reduce the likeliness of your kid trying to bolt! 6) Push: Let your child push the cart. This is known as “heavy work” and can calm the nervous system by activating the joints and muscles. Little ones may need help or they may need to push the little cart. Have an older sibling push a baby sibling in the stroller. 7) Heavy hold: If your child is riding in the cart, give him something heavy to hold in his lap. This can be a heavy toy you bring from home or you can give him some items to hold, “helping” the adult with the shopping. A big sack of potatoes is a good option, because you’ll find that in the first aisle and they won’t get ruined if they fall out of the cart. 8) Visual timer: Have the older kids use the timer on your phone to

see which aisle is the quickest. You can use the “lap” function to keep score. The little kids might enjoy a visual timer from the app store. Set it when you know you are just about done with a certain aisle so they can watch “one more minute” pass by. Having a sense of predictability can make the experience seem less taxing to little ones. 9) Countdown: Before you start down the aisles, give your little ones stickers or coins to correspond with the number of aisles in the store or the number of things that need to be purchased. If you are buying socks, bath towels, coat hangers, dog treats and shampoo, give your child 5 dot stickers. Once you get the item, have them put the sticker on the item. They watch their stickers disappear and this makes it easier to cope with shopping, as they can see the end is in sight because their stickers are disappearing! The same can be done with a coin purse and coins. You can even let them use the coins to get a little treat at the end. 10) Hats and Hoodies: Some kids act out, because they are overwhelmed by the stimulation in a big store. See if your child is calmer if she is wearing a hat while out and about. Other ways to “close off” stimulation include hooded sweatshirts, sunglasses, noise canceling headphones and even keeping the covers on strollers. Good luck out there everyone! German Housing Vocabulary List
When you are looking for a place to live, there are already some resources for you to find the ideal location for your new abode in English. There is a good chance you will find something you like through the housing office or FindItGuideProperties.com where just about everything is in English. But what if you want to use a
resource where the advertisement is listed in German? It is likely there will be words that are listed that you don’t know or do not translate correctly in Google Translate! We have listed some “survival” vocabulary you may run into when looking at a listing from a German resource.
Abst.: Abstand – You might run into this if there was something that needs to be paid by you for things such as a built-in kitchen or rugs. AB: Altbau – This would refer to an older building. It could even be from the 1800’s or older.
DG: Dachgeschoss – This refers to the top floor, or the attic floor. Often this type of floor will have a pitched roof in the layout. EBK: Einbauküche – This refers to kitchens that are already builtin as it is possible that last renter brought their own kitchen cabinets, sink… and took it with them when they left. EG: Erdgeschoss – Refers to the ground floor (coming from the word “Earth”).
can also be as old as the 1950s.
2-ZW or 2-RW: Zwei-Zimmerwohnung – A two room apartment doesn’t mean two bedrooms. This would refer to something like a bedroom and a living room (hence two rooms). NK: Nebenkosten (Pl) or BK: Betriebskosten – These are the extra costs you will have outside of the normal rental price such as heating, water, insurances etc. It is also common in Germany to pay the house tax.
Kt.: Kaution – We refer to this as the security deposit which you will need to come up with before moving into the apartment. In Germany, the “Kaution” must be put in a bank and must earn interest during the time it is in that account.
Pr.: Provision – This is the commission the listing agent gets paid.
NB: Neubau – This will usually be newer construction, but
zzgl.: zuzüglich – This is how the word “plus” will be referred to.
OG: Obergeschoss – This refers to the floor it is on, so 1 OG. would be on the first floor above the ground floor and so on.

30th Medical Brigade Soldiers participate in Joint Medical Exchange to prepare for near-peer conflicts
U.S. Army medics Sgt. Theodore Esten and Sgt. Cade Cantrell alongside Norwegian Army and U.S. Navy medics in preparation for tactical maneuvers and point of injury training under arctic conditions on Feb. 2. Photo by Capt. Tynika Reese
by Spc. Xuyang Zhao 21st Theater Sustainment Command During Army exercise Arctic Serpent held for three weeks in February, U.S. Army combat medics and nurses increased surgical interoperability for trauma in arctic conditions with medical counterparts from various NATO countries — including the U.K, the Netherlands, and Finland — during an exchange hosted by the Norwegian military. “Training in austere environments is important in a near-peer threat,” said Capt. Tynika Reese, an emergency room nurse with the 160th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment from the Field Hospital. “We have to [be prepared] to stay in these conditions for extended periods when facing an enemy whose capabilities are similar to ours because the option to evacuate casualties may not be immediately present.” The cold weather medical training in Norway prepared Soldiers from the 512th Field Hospital and 519th Hospital Center, 30th Medical Brigade for near-peer conflicts. Participating teams from each country were divided into two groups. While the surgical teams exchanged practices covering triage, damage control surgery, and post operation care; Combat medics trained extensively on prehospital care as temperatures dropped down to -15 degrees Celsius in the field. In real combat scenarios, there is
a likelihood that patients will have to transfer between medical treatment facilities from various allied forces. So knowing how each of these entities functions in the cold weather conditions is imperative to working effectively, said Reese. During this time, Capt. Jeevan Bhatta, a certified registered nurse anesthetist with the 160th FRSD, worked alongside a British team and gained familiarity with the assets, capabilities, and personnel organic to a Role 2 Norwegian hospital. One important lesson that all medical personnel learned quickly was that the challenging weather conditions meant that modifications to priorities of treatment were required. “Traditional medical treatment follows the MARCH algorithm:
Patients are first evaluated for any massive hemorrhage, followed by the airway, next the respiratory system, then the circulatory system, and finally hypothermia. However, hypothermia can cause a lot more problems than some other injuries in these environments, said Bhatta. Therefore, medical personnel first checked for massive hemorrhage and immediately followed with hypothermia considerations.” Interacting in this environment has taught Staff Sgt. Shneider Altenor, a combat medic with the FRSD, to utilize his critical thinking and build on past training to better take care of patients. “You figure out real quick that a blanket is not going to stop hypothermia” said Altenor. “I’ve always known that hypothermia is a big

deal, but actually being in an environment where you can see the patient’s temperature go down… that is different.” If medics do not do a good job in prehospital treatment, surgeons will not have a patient to operate on. Therefore, medics always have to adapt and use every opportunity to practice their skills. For example, a heated blanket in the conditions
present could only raise a patient’s core temperatures by 1-2 degrees, which means medics must account for the limited effects of their equipment when treating patients. Throughout the exercise, the team exchanged vast amounts of medical experience while working with other NATO allies and is now even more prepared for future operations in extreme climates.

21st TSC Female Medic graduates Ranger School
Army Maj. Gen. James Smith, left, commanding general of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, took a moment to congratulate Army Sgt. 1st Class Kalynn Rolon, right, from the 421st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 30th Medical Brigade, Baumholder for recently graduating Ranger School. Sgt. 1st Class Rolon has completed Airborne School, Drill Sergeant Academy, and now Ranger School.
Story & photos by Spc. Katelyn Myers 21st Theater Sustainment Command Defeating the odds, Army Sgt. 1st Class Kalynn Rolon graduated Ranger School Jan. 28th at Fort Benning, Georgia. With the graduation rate of Ranger School being around 40 percent, the two-month course is known to be one of the most challenging
military schools in the world. During the 60 plus day course, Ranger students push their mind and body through multiple phases that ultimately leads to better trained, more resilient leaders throughout the Army. Roughly 90 percent of Ranger volunteers tend to be males, but women like Rolon, assigned to the 421st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 30th Medical Brigade, out of Baumholder, are helping pave the
way for others. Born in Yuma, Arizona, Rolon began her Army career in 2007 and is reaching incredible milestones throughout her Army career. Arriving at her initial duty station in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, her first step was completing Airborne School. Rolon continued on to become a Drill Sergeant in 2018. From there she has now obtained the coveted Ranger tab that many
dream of receiving one day. “Given your demonstrated excellence, I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to recognize this significant milestone in your career,” said Maj. Gen. James M. Smith, the commanding general of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, during a coin presentation to Rolon. “You are a role model for so many people to walk the path you have chosen in order to emulate your success.” “This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, especially once they started letting females into Ranger School,” said Rolon. “I thought that was a major accomplishment for females in the military and I really wanted to be a part of that legacy. I wanted to do it for myself and females in the Army.” Ranger School isn’t an individual task and it is essential to work as a team to be successful, Rolon went on to say. There are individuals with different mindsets about females being at Ranger School but the Individuals within her squad were very professional. She was blessed with a team that respected her, and she respected them which lead to each other’s success. Another pillar of support came from leaders within her chain of command and Army Lt. Col. Clint Cobb, commander of the 421st
Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 30th Med, wants to provide Soldiers the chance if they are willing to put the work in. “In general the self-sacrifice involved to step up to the plate on an opportunity is one that very many people don’t get and one thing we’ve communicated across the battalion is if you want to go to school, if you’re looking for an opportunity, let us know and we’ll help you,” said Cobb. Rolon began training twice a day and studying about a year ago. It took her awhile to pull the trigger but she had to fully commit which meant overcoming the fear of not being ready. She eventually sent in her Ranger packet and expressed that even the day she arrived at Fort Benning she still did not feel ready. The most challenging part of Ranger School for Rolon was the Mountain Phase. Soldiers were tasked with rucking up a mountain every single day during the winter months. “I think the biggest take away was a Ranger Instructor who told us if this is the phase you’re thinking about quitting, just quit tomorrow,” said Rolon. “So I thought about that over and over again, I just need to get through today and then I can quit tomorrow.” For Rolon, that never happened.
Cross-training between US Army Soldiers, Medical Students
Story & photo by Staff Sgt. Gabriel Rivera-Villanueva 113th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment
POZNAN, POLAND — U.S. Army Soldiers and medical students from the Poznan University of Medical Sciences participate in a cross-training simulation event in Poland. The purpose of the simulation
was to provide the most realistic and practical training for acute trauma and medical scenarios. “We don’t get a lot of opportunities to do real-life training, especially with a wide variety of perspectives that these students have,” said U.S. Army Cpt. Ryan Hunton, the Division Surgeon of the 1st Infantry Division Forward. “This is a great training center that allows us to see what it is like to work in trauma.”
The event consisted of a scenario of a patient who had multiple gunshot wounds. Divided into three teams, the students had to assess the patient in the field, put him into the ambulance, and transfer him to the
emergency room team. At the end of the simulation, the group conducted a debriefing and reviewed the recordings of the different scenarios to exchange feedback and recommendations. The exercise allowed the
Soldiers and the medical students to share knowledge about tourniquets and other trauma-related scenarios, said Hunton. “In the future, we will potentially have other opportunities to build our collaboration with the University.”

Andrew Paulin 21st Theater Sustainment Command Soldiers from the 21st Theater Sustainment Command’s 266th Financial Management Support Center returned home Feb. 22 from a nine-month deployment to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. “The 266th FMSC mission was instrumental to the success of operations within the CENTCOM area of operations,” said Lt. Col. Eugene Irby the deputy director of 266th FMSC. “These soldiers conducted counter-threat finance operations, established Theater Finance policy, and even conducted negotiations with host nation banks.
This was just the tip of the iceberg of what our soldiers can do, and were responsible for during this deployment. I am proud of their exemplary performance contributing to mission success.” 266th FMSC served as the finance and comptroller force that enabled operational forces to deny and disrupt illicit financial activity designed to negatively affect U.S. operations. They also provided direct military pay support to U.S. service members, processing over 30,000 transactions for deployed soldiers in nine separate countries. “I am especially proud of this team,” said Col. Douglas LeVien, the deputy commander of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command.
“Not only did they conduct their job with the utmost professionalism, but their dedication and exemplary performance earned them the Meritorious Unit Citation for their excellence during this rotation. This really speaks to the leadership and caliber of soldiers within the 266th FMSC.” Since 9/11 the 21st TSC has deployed thousands of soldiers to the Middle East. The 266th FMSC’s redeployment is significant since it’s likely to be the last in the foreseeable future to the U.S. Central Command area of operations as a result of the drawdowns in Afghanistan and Iraq. Spc. William Joseph Murry Jr. Can you explain what you do and what you are responsible for at your unit? As an S-1 Representative, my primary responsibility is taking care of my fellow Soldiers in every aspect when it comes to the livelihood extending from something as small as cutting an award and applying it to their record all the way to helping the Soldier navigate and relocate themselves and their families if the need presents itself.

Why is what you do in your unit important? What I do in the unit is very important. Without the S-1, soldiers would not see their promotions or pay bonuses. Service Members would not be able to truly advance in the Army on paper, which is huge when it comes to getting pay raises, better housing, etc. Story & photo by Sgt. Daniel Yeadon 16th Sustainment Brigade Name: Spc. William Joseph Murray Jr. Job title: Battalion S-1 Representative Assigned: 16th Special Troops Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Company Location: Baumholder, DE Experience: 2 Years as a 42A Human Resources Specialist Hometown: Charlotte, NC
What do you enjoy about your job, and what motivates you? What I enjoy the most about my job is helping other Service Members, knowing that I am the one behind the scenes that can make a difference in a Soldier’s life. Customer service is my number one priority, and I absolutely love having the ability to make another fellow Service Member smile knowing that they are taken care of. That is what keeps me motivated at the end of the day, every day, and I am glad to be a part of something like that.

Turn right on Reguliersgracht, and then left on Prinsengracht. You’ll find an old wooden church (Amstelkerk) with an outdoor café and terrace in the square. Treat yourself to a coffee and Dutch pancakes (Poffertjes) before moving on. Tour Stop 5 Heading north back down Reugliers gracht (in the direction of The Huis Van Loon Museum), cross two bridges and turn right on Herengracht. There are two museums right next to each other on this street before you reach the Amstel River. Fashion lovers should take a stop in the Museum of Bags and Purses (which also has a lovely café inside). Next door is the Willet-Holthuysen Museum, another richly decorated canal house. Tour Stop 6 Once you reach the Amstel River, look for “Magere Brug” or Meager Bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left.
