Rivers of the World

NEW

Water is our most precious resource, essential to all life on Earth. Your students will discover the importance of rivers to us and the animals that live in and around them. Here they will meet some amazing Amazon River fish, including pacu, catfish, and the colossal arapaima. They will also find several river reptiles such as the diamondback terrapin and the Orinoco crocodile. Finally students will learn what they can do to protect our waterways.

Ocean Today Kiosk

Adventure Aquarium and the Center for Aquatic Sciences are members of the national Coastal America Partnership, dedicated to restoring and preserving coastal ecosystems. Get the latest on the conservation efforts of the Coastal America partners by stopping at the Ocean Today Kiosk, located across from the Amazon River waterfall.

Shipwrecked!

Your students will discover hundreds of fish and invertebrates in a series of underwater habitats. This is a great location for exploring adaptations and observing behaviors. You will find seahorses hiding in a grassbed, angelfish swimming on a reef, moray eels lurking in a shipwreck and spiny lobsters peeking from rocky crevices.

Ocean Realm

This deep ocean habitat will have your students marveling at these amazing animals including several species of sharks and rays, two species of sea turtles and an array of fish species. Adventure Aquarium is the only place in the United States to see the Great Hammerhead shark on display. Ocean Realm is the exhibit to introduce your students to a number of concepts, including classification, habitats, adaptations, behavior, and conservation. Check your Adventure Guide & Map for times of daily special shows in Ocean Realm Theater. See pages 7 and 8 for information about behind-the-scenes tours of this amazing exhibit.

ZONE ADVENTURE

B

Stingray Beach Club

Here is the perfect opportunity for your students to get up close and personal with four amazing species of stingrays. Younger students will enjoy comparing the feel, size, shape and color of these graceful animals, while older students can explore locomotion, behavior, anatomy and what they can do to protect them. Feedings daily - check your Adventure Guide & Map for times.

Penguin Island

A visit to Penguin Island will shake up your students’ perception of both classification and geographical range. The endangered African black-footed penguin is an aquatic bird that lives in a temperate climate. Check out the underwater viewing window where your students can observe the unique adaptations that make them ideally suited for living in water.

4D Theater

Adventure Aquarium’s 4D Theater, presented by PSE&G, is a one-of-a-kind movie experience that combines the high-definition drama of a 3-D film with special sensory effects. The 15 - 20 minute films are specially selected to offer your students an immersive experience that’s exciting and educational.

Rotunda

Please meet your instructor in the Rotunda no less than 5 minutes prior to your pre-scheduled education program or tour.

Touch-A-Shark

Introduce your students to the wonderful world of sharks in this hands-on interactive exhibit. Several small species of shark can be touched and observed. Have your students use their math skills at the shark scale, where they can compare their weight with the weights of various sharks. 12
