EXHIBITS AND SHOWS Adventure Aquarium features over 2 million gallons of fun and thousands of the planet’s wettest animals. The 5th largest aquarium in the U.S., Adventure Aquarium exhibits a diverse collection of invertebrates, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and of course…FISH! Learning opportunities, around every corner, are designed to inspire students to better understand and gain appreciation for marine life, food chains, life cycles and ecosystems. Hands-on TOUCH exhibits, multi-sensory displays, FREE live shows, guided tours and classes, and impromptu up-close animal experiences occur daily.

A field trip to Adventure Aquarium is cross-curricular exploring Science, Social Studies, English and Mathematics. Exhibits address New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards 5.1 and 5.3; Pennsylvania Academic Standards 3.1 and 3.3; Delaware Content Standards 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8; and National Science Benchmarks 5A, 5D, and 5F. Exhibit companions and other materials are available to augment your classroom lessons. These curricula provide a continuous linkage to the aquarium and can be used in your classroom before and after your visit. It’s a new home for Gill and his Aqua Pals, a hands-on experience where you’ll get to follow along on a journey of non-stop exploration, discovery and fun. An Adventure Around Every Corner

Irazu Falls

Stingray Beach Club

A 30-foot waterfall cascading into a deep, clear pool introduces you to the Amazon River, the largest river in the world. Unlike the Amazon’s murky water, Irazu Falls’ clear water enables you to experience Freshwater stingrays, Giant Black pacu and one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, the arapaima.

Dip your hands into the warm waters of this massive stingray pool to touch and hand-feed Cownose rays, Southern stingrays and gigantic, strikingly beautiful Leopard whiprays. Stingrays get their name from the defensive spine located on their whip-like tail. Similar to clipping fingernails, their spines have been trimmed allowing guests to safely experience these incredible fish.

Caribbean Currents If diversity is the spice of life, then Caribbean Currents is HOT! The Caribbean is home to 9% of the world’s coral reefs and demonstrates a wide range of ecological habitats. Students will come face-to-face with seahorses hiding in a grassbed, angelfish swimming on a reef, barracuda and Moray eels lurking in a shipwreck and hundreds of other colorful tropical fish and invertebrates.

Each of the fifteen different exhibits features unique habitats and adaptations that will amaze the senses and stimulate the mind.

Ocean Realm Three quarters of a million gallons of ocean blue is waiting for you. The Atlantic Ocean is home to a lot more than what you can see at the Jersey shore. Giant Roughtail stingrays, the largest stingray species in the Atlantic, cavort with endangered Green sea turtles, oceanic sharks and schools of game fish.

Touch-a-Shark Adventure Aquarium cast members introduce the wonderful world of sharks to you and your students.

You are invited to reach your hands into the cool waters of this interactive exhibit to touch Smooth Dogfish sharks, White-spotted and Brown-banded Bamboo sharks and more. This hands-on experience is a unique learning opportunity to combine learning with fun.

Seal Shores Meet our Harbor and Gray seals, protected marine mammals, lounging safe and healthy in their 170,000-gallon enclosure. The seals demonstrate their intelligence and swimming skills by performing exciting natural behaviors such as “porpoising” and “vocalizations.”

Penguin Island The endangered African penguins are more than the cute, tuxedoed birds that you think you know. The tuxedo is made of feathers and these penguins don’t like the extreme cold. A 20-foot underwater viewing window showcases their underwater acrobatics.

ADVENTURE ZONE C Hands-on Learning & Fun! Interactive Inlet & Creature Feature Boneless may be best to describe these touch exhibits. Invertebrates like Moon jellies, Blue lobsters, and prehistoric Horseshoe crabs are all available to be touched. You might be the one that needs to show a bit of backbone if you want to experience everything that is offered here.

Creature Lab From corals and crabs to creepy caimans, Creature Lab features odd and famous species that live much further away from home. Seahorses, Lionfish and Poison Dart frogs are just the beginning. Animal adaptations and abilities are often hard to believe, but amazingly true nonetheless. See and hear for yourself.

ADVENTURE ZONE D Discoveries of the Deep West African River Experience Designed to mimic an actual African river setting, this stunning indoor exhibit features large, free-flying birds, playful porcupines and two 3,000 pound Nile hippos.

They may be enormous, but when viewed through the massive underwater windows, the graceful hippos appear to glide through schools of hundreds of colorful fish.

Jules Verne Gallery Hidden deep within the ocean are some of the strangest and most captivating creatures imaginable … and you can get up close to them in Jules Verne Gallery!

Giant Japanese Spider crabs are the largest crab species in the world while the Giant Pacific octopus may be the smartest animal without bones. See them along with dangerous jellies and other animals that seem too odd to be real.

Shark Realm Unforgettable views of our large shark collection await you in Shark Realm. Dozens of Sandbar sharks, Nurse sharks and Sand Tiger sharks, some more than 10 feet long, cruise through the depths of a stunning 550,000gallon exhibit. Don’t forget to search the bottom for the critically endangered Green sawfish. Learn how sharks perform their vital role of keeping the health of the ocean in balance.

Shark Tunnel Prepare to be astonished as you enter our suspended 40-foot Shark Tunnel – always a guest favorite! Students experience these massive predators in an immersive way that they will not forget. These misunderstood creatures will mesmerize viewers and instill a sense of wonder and respect for one of the ocean’s oldest residents.

NJ ACADEMY FOR AQUATIC SCIENCES EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS 2011 – 2012

The New Jersey Academy for Aquatic Sciences, the education partner of Adventure Aquarium, offers a variety of educational programs to enhance your group’s trip to Adventure Aquarium. They are offered Monday – Friday from September 19, 2011 – June 15, 2012 (no classes will be scheduled from December 24 – January 3 and on all major holidays) between 10:00 am and 1:45 pm.

If you do not see a program that interests you, NJAAS staff would be happy to design a program especially for your class.

The shark glides gracefully in the ancient sea, confident that he is the top predator in his world...or is he? Come with us as we explore the prehistoric seas and learn about other predators that swam in these waters, including ancient sharks, turtles, and even dinosaurs! $3 per person.

Limit 20 people per half hour tour Ages 6 – adult (Children under the age of 6 are not permitted on this tour) Home to over 1,500 animals, our 760,000-gallon Ocean Realm exhibit gives a spectacular view of life under the waves. Food Web Frenzy

Key Concepts: Adaptations, Food Webs, Predator/Prey Relationships What did you have for dinner last night? What did your dinner have for dinner before IT was dinner? Investigate the complex world of food webs and uncover the amazing relationships between predator and prey!

I Am a Seastar!

This class uses imitation to encourage movement, vocalization, and creative thought. Students will be introduced to various marine animals, such as sea turtles, Horseshoe crabs, and sea stars, and invited to engage their imaginations by imitating their movements and sounds. This class does involve live animals, some of whom students will be invited to touch.

Terrific Turtles What is the difference between a turtle and a tortoise?

How fast is a sea turtle? Can a Snapping turtle take off it’s shell? Students will meet a few of our turtles in residence, and have the opportunity to touch some turtle related biofacts. This class uses live animals, with no direct animal contact.

by PSE&G. Groups will enjoy the spectacular effects from the fourth dimension during our two new shows.

Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure, a National Geographic Giant Screen film, is an educational journey into prehistoric oceans.

Reenactments of fossil discoveries are integrated into this animated story featuring giant sea creatures. Standards-based Educator Guides are available from National Geographic and cover the National Education Standards in Geography, Science, English and Art. This show is recommended for grades 3-12.

Each Guide includes: Three classroom activities in each lesson with step-by-step instructions.

• A lesson overview with vocabulary to introduce key concepts.

• A planner with learning objectives, instructional strategies, and materials.

• A glossary of key terms.

• Student handouts to support active and engaged learning.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: Based on the feature-

length film, this incredible 4D experience includes a spaghetti tornado, an ice cream storm and a cheeseburger downpour! Your entire group will enjoy the excitement of this film. This show is recommended for grades K-8.

An entry time for the 4D Theater must be selected in advance.

Multiple show times are available throughout the day.

Group price is $3.50 per person.

Special Student Opportunity: Ocean Art Contest Get your students thinking about marine issues and our oceans by participating in the Coastal America International Student Art Contest. Encourage artistic expression to convey the importance of the ocean, coasts and Great Lakes. Adventure Aquarium is a regional contest center and winning artwork will be displayed at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History!

PLANNING YOUR VISIT INFORMATION

Mosaic Sand Art Your group will enjoy a private session to create your own Sea Star Mosaic Sand Art sculpture! Select gems and shells to decorate the mold in the sand. Watch as we pour our magic milk into the mold to craft your personalized creation!

Group sessions are available Monday through Friday and must be reserved in advance. $4.00 per person.

Group Photo Session Take your group memories home! Enjoy a souvenir photo of your group visit to Adventure Aquarium.

Choose from settings and locations throughout the Aquarium.

Packages starting at $8.99 per person including a 5 x 7 print! Talk to your Adventure Specialist to learn about other great packages available. Available Monday through Friday with a reservation.

Group Policies Check-In: Please plan to arrive at the Aquarium on-time for an easy check-in. The head chaperone should check-in at the Will Call Window at Ticketing upon arrival.

Running late? Please contact the Group Sales Office at 856.365.3300 as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate groups with timed activities, such as lunch, 4D show or Learning Adventures.

Bus Parking: The bus parking fee is $10 per bus and will be included on your group invoice.

Lunch: Groups may bring their own lunches or take advantage of our pre-ordered boxed lunches, with prices ranging from $4.00 to $8.00 per person. Boxed lunch orders must be placed and paid 10 days prior to visit.

Groups may eat lunch at Adventure Aquarium in our indoor Skyline lunchroom or in the Breezeway area located on the waterfront. Lunch space is available on weekdays only and must be reserved in advance. All lunches should be boxed together and labeled with your group name prior to arrival. Groups are responsible for transporting their lunches from the bus to the drop-off area.

Chaperones, Payment and Policies: School groups receive 1 complimentary chaperone per 10 students.

Youth, Scout and Camp groups receive 1 complimentary chaperone per 20 youth. Additional chaperones will be charged the appropriate group rate.

A 50% non-refundable deposit is due two weeks after making your group reservation. The final balance is due 2 weeks prior to your visit date. Purchase Orders are acceptable methods of payment for school groups.

A copy of the Purchase Order must be mailed or faxed according to the deposit schedule listed.

Once full payment is made, all payments are final.

If your attendance decreases on the day of your visit, the overpayment will be transferred to admission tickets. The tickets will be mailed to your location after your visit. Tickets are valid for one year from the original reservation date. No refunds will be administered due to attendance changes!

Cancellations: Reservations that are not paid in full or covered with a Purchase Order will be cancelled. Please notify the Group Sales Office if your group number changes or if you must cancel your visit. No refunds will be administered for cancelled reservations.

Cancellations due to weather will be rescheduled.
