Major Project Of The Allora & HistoricalDistrictSociety

The Society’s biggest anticipated project is to relocate the buildings from 27 Drayton Street to 53 Warwick Street Allora. This project has been in the process for almost 3 years. The move would make it easier for the few devoted volunteers to maintain and exhibit the history of the town and everything Allora and district has to offer. To continue the wonderful work of the Society more volunteers are needed and would be most welcome.

To raise money for maintenance costs to keep the doors open, the Society has been conducting a major raffle. Each year the raffle is normally sold before the Heritage Weekend with the draw taking place on the actual weekend. However with the weather cancelling the event twice, the Allora & District Historical Society (ADHS) decided to keep selling tickets in the raffle. The winner has now been announced - Mrs Carmel Linsell of Mt Marshall gratefully accepted the $300 Ampol Fuel voucher that had been generously donated by Justin and Gretta Barton of Bartranz Petroleum, our locally owned fuel suppliers. The Allora & District Historical Society would like to thank everyone who supported the fundraiser by purchasing tickets. Drayton Street Museum to be moved, eventually.

VouchersGiftavailable Flying Fox Management Plan For The Region Last week’s meeting of The Southern Downs Regional Council was told that Black, Little Red and Grey-headed Flying-Foxes are native species that are seasonal visitors to the Southern Downs. The animals typically arrive in the Southern Downs in spring, occupying three roost sites until the onset of cooler weather in late autumn/early winter. The known roost sites are currently on Council managed lands in Allora (Dalrymple Creek Park), Stanthorpe (Gleeson Park) and Warwick (McCahon Bridge Park / Cooks Park). The population of Flying Foxes at each roost site varies throughout the season ranging from several hundred to 10,000 plus animals. While their presence on the Southern Downs can cause health and safety concerns for nearby residents with noise, smell and mess, flying-foxes are a protected species under Queensland Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Council is obligated to follow guidelines and codes of practice developed by the Queensland Government when managing the animals’ roostingSouthernactivities.Downs Councillor Stephen Tancred said the draft plan is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to the practical management of flyingfoxes and encouraged the community to have a vested interest in the

I’m Annette, the Chaplain at Allora p-10 State School. I have been a Chaplain for 5 years. My background is in career, community services and volunteering with disengaged youth. I love serving my community in this way, because I believe that everybody deserves to be respected and given a chance. We have no idea what another person’s journey has been or where it may be going. As Chaplain, my role is to support the social, emotional and spiritual needs of our school community. Because there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to supporting our kids, the way chaplaincy looks in our community, could look very different to what it looks like in an inner city Brisbane school - and that’s the beauty of chaplaincy.Inourschool, I provide one-on-one support to students, whether there’s problems at home, in school, or they just need a listening ear and a safe person to offer support. I also support students in the classroom, so they are settled for learning.Ialso run “Bella Girls” with some high school students, I support some students one-on-one with social skills and help them to transition into classes. I am there to chat with students in the playground to see how they are going. I also support families who are going through difficult times which can be emotionally or financially challenging, in addition to whatever else may be happening in their day-to-day lives.

Wattles got home on the boot of star playmaker Matt Duggan in a colossal tussle at Platz Oval on Sunday, just a 77-minute field goal the difference to allow the Stillwater Pastoral Company Warriors a 23 – 22 victory over the Goondiwindi Boars, the reigning TRL Premiers. Make no mistake the Boars rolled up to play and had the Warriors measure crossing for five touchdowns to the home side’s four, the visitor’s fullback Chris Woodbridge on fire with a classy try double. But normally reliable kicker, halfback Trae Bennetto, struggled to find the black dot, successful with a single conversion from five attempts. Wattles sharp shooter Duggan on the other hand was on target with three goals from four shots before sealing the win with the vital field goal that locked his side into second place on the TRL Hutchinson Builders A Grade Premiership ladder.

“Goondiwindi scored first and we really had to work hard to get back in front, it was a good challenge for us.”While the Boars had certainly pressured the premiership leaders, next weekend’s challenge against Warwick may well result in the 2022 TRL Reserve Grade Minor Premiership in Wattles trophy cabinet. Wattles 38 (Josh Henry, Alex Morris, Lachlan Henry, Darby Peardon, Joe Morris, Mitchell Duff, Tim Hentschel tries; Tom Morris 5 goals) defeated Goondiwindi 16 Under 19 - The Wattles Black Toyota, Warwick Under 19 outfit return to the playing field this Saturday to close the door on their 2022 season against Warwick. The Warriors Colts last outing was against Highfields on July 31st, before a playing staff shortage saw them forfeit against Ipswich side the Redbank Colts. With no game last Sunday as Goondiwindi have no Under 19 side, the Cameron Hamblin coached Warriors will be looking to finish the season on a high note.Wattles meet the Warwick Cowboys in all grades this Saturday at Father Ranger Oval in the final TRL fixture round of 2022 Glyn Rees Wattles Under 6 enjoying a wet game on Saturday. Chaz Daley, James Patterson, George Mullen, Henry Ferguson and Archie Moore with Coach Shadai Daley.

Matt Duggan Kicks Warriors to Victory

Tries by Boars winger Geoff Prince and captain/ coach and lock Travis Waddell had Wattles on the back foot trailing 10 – 0 after ten minutes of play. But the Warriors levelled up through fullback Jackson Green and sideline flyer Aaron Hooper, before forward pack giant Brendon McBryde slipped through the defence to allow Wattles a 16 – 10 half time advantage. While the home team finished on the upside of the first stanza, three Goondiwindi second half touchdowns had Wattles back peddling by the later stages. It was a Matthew Christensen try fifteen minutes from full time that put the game up for the taking. Boars’ finishers Luke Buckle and Woodbridge ran in tries to have the scoreboard locked at 22 all with 73 minutes gone on the Platz Oval clock, but the result was sealed five minutes later when Duggan broke the deadlock with a classic right foot drop goal from just under twenty metresAsideout. from Duggan and fullback Jackson Green, back-rower Tyson Stevens’ run of superb form continues.Inacourageous effort carrying injury, Wattles skipper/coach Travis Burns took the field against one of the competitions top line-ups. The mentor’s determination is fuelled by a hunger for a Wattles top grade premiership, and Burns first in the senior ranks at any level. The Warriors will aim up for their ninth straight win when they run on to Father Ranger Oval this Saturday evening in the local derby against the Warwick Cowboys.Thegreen and gold lineup to take on Warwick will be less injured quality forwards Jordan Crocker and Mitch Koina who will return for the final’s series. Wattles 23 (Jackson Green, Aaron Hooper, Brendon McBryde, Matthew Christensen tries; Matt Duggan 3 goals & field goal) defeated Goondiwindi 22.

The home side went to the break leading 16 – 10, but four additional tries on the scoreboard to one by former NRL star Rick McGrady in the second half saw the Warriors in the boxed seat for victory. While co-mentor Lonergan was very happy with “a good win”, he congratulated his side on weathering the storm of “a really tough first 20 minutes which could of went either way.”

Under 10 - The Russell McMillan coached Black Toyota, Warwick Under 10 Warriors played well across the field, to finish with a positive result. The Hornets were a touch short on player power, with Adam Butler and Jackson McMillan two young Warriors to help out and both scored tries in their temporary colours.Levi Zadow and Tom Peters were in fine form for Wattles while Jack Shannon & Adam Butler played their best games of the season.Bryce Bateman and Leo Thompson-Cleary were the Warriors top defenders, while Brodie Delvendiep was very impressive with his tackling and running the ball. It’s been a rewarding season according to Coach McMillan, “the team has improved exceptionally.”

Under 12 - The Ryanie for Tyres Wattles Under 12’s lined up against the Toowoomba Southern Suburbs Under 13 team on Saturday.Trailing 10 – 0, Wattles seemed somewhat shell shocked by their older opponents but hit back with a Jack Burton try, to go to the break trailing 10-4. Wattles defence shut down numerous South’s raids, before they stepped up a gear in second half with a second try to Jack Burton.South’s replied scoring wide out to take a lead of 14-8 . A strong all-round performance by Archer Steinhart saw him score on the full-time bell, with extras kick from wide out unsuccessful. Souths snatched the honours 14-12 in a mighty Wattles effort that wrapped up their 2022 season. Under 15 - The Drayton Medical Centre Wattles Under 15 side faced a depleted but courageous Eastern Suburbs combination of just nine players. It was agreed to play 9-aside footy to give all players a game, with Wattles proving the better side finishing ahead 58-0. Coach Tom Duggan was most impressed with his team’s terrific ball control in wet conditions and their ability to keep the opposition to nil.Wattles Under 15 are now looking forward to finals footy.

Under 7 - It was wet weather footy in their final match of the season for the Willett Electrical Wattles Under 7’s. The young Warriors certainly enjoyed sliding over the try line to score.Chaz Daley, James Patterson, George Mullen, Henry Ferguson and Archie Moore were all quick in defence and all found gaps in the Eastern Suburbs line. James Patterson put up a great kick off, the ball flying over opposition heads, James also showing more confidence taking on the defence, finding gaps and running lines. George Mullen’s confidence has improved, finding gaps and pushing through, and working hard in defence. While Buddy Turner was absent for Saturday’s game, he is another whose confidence has improved so obvious with his line breaking and tackling. Archie Moore covers plenty of field space as he hunts for tackles with his fast defensive plays. The season as seen Chaz Daley fine tune his sharp defence featuring great tackles, a result of improved confidence. Fast bullet Henry Ferguson finds room to involve himself in near every tackle across the field, and has shown he is a proven try saver.

Under 11 - The Clifton Auto Ag Services Under 11 team took on the Hornets in a tough and somewhat aggressive game, both teams not giving an inch and tackling very well throughout the game. This year these junior Warriors have gone through their season undefeated, including a draw against Goondiwindi at home. “A great team effort” commented Coach Ian Brady, “I have been coaching this team since they were Under 8’s, it has given me great pleasure watching them improve in leaps and bounds. They are an extremely talented group of boys and I look forward to watching their football improve under a new coach from next season, a different voice will help these guys immensely.”

Under 8 - It was a great season ending game by the Railway Hotel, Allora Under 8’s according to Coach Tim Johnson,

Try scorers included William Erhlich, Hunter Ryan, Thomas Saville, Henry Johnson and Carter Lyons.Toby Schmidt crossed for a memorable try after running the length of the field, fending off numerous defenders as he left opposition players in his wake. What about Rhys Gascoyne, so strong again despite injury and under Mum’s orders not to play, still managed to excel on one leg !

Under 9 - “A great game to end the season” said a happy Coach in George Berry, and also George’s coaching journey with this Dalrymple Landscape Haulage Under 9’s team. “I’m very proud of how they’ve all improved over the last few years since the early days of Under 6’s & have certainly enjoyed my time working with them.”

Ayden Willett and Alex Wolski cross for tries, while James Mason came agonisingly close also to scoring.Rylee Boom, Flynn McInnes, Saxon and Malakai Darlington, Noah Schwenke and Harry Jones all had strong games. Under 6 - Wattles Clifton Upholstery Under 6’s were in exceptional form on Saturday wrapping up their season. The boys gave it a red-hot crack, and although they didn’t come out victorious, they managed to rack up ten touchdowns. Hunter Gault crossed for three tries while Braxton Harper and Jonah Schwenke collected two each for the team. Jace Macura and Lawson McPherson earned themselves a try each, but all the boys put in a cracking effort and all should be proud of themselves.

My first AMEB exam I have been learning the piano for a few years with Mrs Chapman and this year I will hopefully be doing my first exam with the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) in Preliminary Grade Piano. The enrolments close at the end of August and the exam is in October/ November in Stanthorpe normally at Mrs Chapman’s music studio. For my exam I have to play some scales. I have been learning C major as well as A natural and harmonic minor. And some technical exercises. I also have to play one piece from lists A, B and C as well as extra pieces. I prefer the classical pieces in list B but I have to play the other types of music as well which are a bit more modern. I think there is an aural skills component in the exam but I’m not sure. I’ve also been working on my theory but not as much as I should. I really love learning the piano and Mrs Chapman is a great teacher. The unveiling ceremony in connection with the Star of Allora Lodge, P.A.F.S.O.A., took place in the Protestant Hall on Wednesday evening last, at which there was a splendid attendance, including a large number of visiting brethren from Warwick and Clifton. The Honour Roll records the following men who made the supreme sacrifice: A. A. Chard, P. Ford, S. G. Masters, J. McDowell, R. Ross, J. W. Laing, H. H. Dickey and A. Morrison as well as thirty-two returned men. The W.M. Bro. J. Crookey presided, and after briefly announcing the object of the gathering called on Bro. H. G. Deacon, Grand Master, to perform the unveiling ceremony. Bro. Deacon unveiled the Honour Roll and prayed that it would always remain a lasting and permanent record of those, who hearing their country’s call, nobly responded, and went and fought for Empire, home and duty. (The P.A.F.S.O.A. Honour Roll still hangs on the wall of the same building; only what was the Protestant Alliance Hall in Drayton Street has been shifted to Warwick Street to become St. Andrew’s Uniting Church Hall). Colin Newport The P.A.F.S.O.A. Honour Roll which now hangs on the wall of St. Andrew’s Uniting Church Hall.
