Anzac Day in Allora

Australians commemorated the first Anzac Day on 25 April 1916, which was 12 months after the landings on Gallipoli. The anniversary has been observed every year to honour the service and sacrifice of all our veterans.

The Ode Of Remembrance

Less than two months after WW1 was declared, with heavy casualties already being reported English Poet Laurence Binyon wrote For the Fallen. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn, At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Allora Anzac Day Commemorations

The Allora RSL Sub Branch Committee invites the community to take part in the following services to commemorate the sacrifices made by the fallen in all wars and to remember those who fought for peace and freedom.

TUESDAY, 25TH APRIL 2023

5.30 am - Dawn Service at the Allora War Memorial Gardens.

Followed by a Gunfire Breakfast in the RSL Hall. $15 per head, children $10. Community most welcome.

9.30 am - Memorial Service at the Allora Cemetery.

10.15 am - Parade to form up on Herbert Street (Between Commercial Hotel and Council Office).

10.40 am - Parade March Off.

11.00 am - Commemorative Service at the Allora Cenotaph.

The RSL extends an invitation to Current and Ex-service personnel and families as well as public bodies, to join them in the procession. Any ex-service personnel who wish to take part in the procession and would like to ride in a car please contact Ray Saunders on 0477 967 823.

On completion of the service, lunch, drinks and refreshments will be available in the RSL Hall.

Lunch Menu - Ploughman’s Platter $14, Corned beef white sauce and vegetables $15, Hamburger $10, Beef Casserole with dumplings $15.
