Police urge motorists to drive to conditions
Due to the recent weather events, many roads have become flooded and received damage.
Flood waters are unpredictable and dangerous, do not become complacent in flooded areas and if it’s flooded, forget it!
Even the most experienced drivers are vulnerable when it comes to flooded roads so BACK IT UP!
Some members of the community are placing them-
selves, other members of the community and emergency workers at risk from choosing to ignore the warnings.
These current weather conditions can change our roads making it imperative to drive to conditions.
Road hazards impact on how your car will behave and therefore you need to adjust the way you drive for the conditions.
Joyce’s 90th Birthday
Pay attention when driving on the road by slowing down and put road safety first!
Road safety is everyone’s responsibility!
Stay up to date with the latest Bureau of Meteorology warnings
including flood warnings and river levels – and Know your weather: Know your risk
It is also important to monitor your local council site - SDRC Dashboard.

Men’s Breakfast Guest Speaker
The Allora Presbyterian Men’s Breakfast will be held on Saturday the 29th October and all are invited to hear our speaker Gavin Petersen. Our breakfast is free and we start at 7.20am. Here is Gavin’s introduction to what he will be talking about -
Was Paul the apostle “off his rocker?”
What would possess a man like Paul the apostle to sacrifice his health, wealth and reputation to constantly risk life and limb so that he could spread a message that could transform lives?
Our speaker today, Gavin Petersen, has also lived as
a faith worker for more than thirty years in order to be free to share the same gospel message with those who haven’t heard it before. This has led him to live in Brazil (22yrs), The USA (2yrs) and Portugal (5yrs) and to learn the relevant languages and cultures. Gavin would like to share with us some of the motivation behind this missionary life. Gavin now lives in Warwick and continues to seek opportunities to share this message.

Another Tourist Attraction For Allora
A local lizard lover has been keeping a watchful eye on a lounge of Cunningham Skinks in Muir Street at Allora. These lizards will remain safe from any harm as they disappear in a flash if danger comes close. So look but don’t try to touch!
The Australian Museum has provided information on the Cunningham Skinks (Egernia cunninghami).
The species is named in
honor of Alan Cunningham, explorer and botanist, who collected the first specimen in the Blue Mountains.
The skink has a long tail with keeled scales along its dorsal surface from the back of the neck down to the tip of the pointed tail.
The legs are quite short, requiring the lizard to slide on its belly when it moves around.

TADOMS Oakey Expo postponed
The Toowoomba and District Old Machinery Society (TADOM) 2022 Old Machinery Expo, which had been scheduled to be held at the Oakey Showgrounds this weekend, 28th and 29th October, has been postponed.
The postponment has been caused by the extended period of wet weather which has saturated the Oakey showgrounds
and interrupted the time table for setting up the exhibits.
The Expo, based on the theme “Life of the Bush Contractor”, has been planned to trace the story of early pioneering machinery advancement and living conditions during the forty years from the 1920s to the 1950s.
A new date has yet to be fixed.
Help for tackling Feral Pests
The State Government supports effective invasive plant and animal management in Queensland through the Queensland Feral Pest Initiative (QFPI). Through this initiative, funding is allocated to support regionally agreed cluster fencing arrangements, as well as other invasive plants and animal control and capacity building projects across Queensland.
New funding has been released as round 7. This round will see funding available for eligible organisations to undertake
strategic control activities in local government regions across Queensland. It is offered to eligible applicants for projects up to and including two years.

Queensland Schoolchildren learn about agriculture
This week AgForce conducted a free education event at Downlands College in Toowoomba.
Run by AgForce’s School to Industry Partnership Program, to teach students where our food and fibre comes from, the importance agriculture plays in our everyday lives and the diverse career opportunities available.
The event takes the learning out of the classroom and promotes all sectors of agriculture, including beef, sheep, grains, production horticulture, poultry and dairy.
AgForce General President Georgie Somerset said showcasing farming to children was incredibly
important.
“Whether students are studying agriculture or not, it is vital that young people gain exposure to important messages about food production,” she said.
High School students are given the chance to discover the diversity of careers in modern agriculture as demonstrations will cover food and fibre, geography, society, environment and science.
AgForce has supported and managed school to industry engagement programs since 2004, with 100 per cent of funds going towards whole-of-agriculture education activities and services.

Looking Back…
Allora’s Past 25 years ago October 1997 Champion
Allora Athlete
Young Allora student Greg Holmes looks to have a bright future in athletics. Greg has qualified in seven events for the National Secondary Schools Track and Field Titles in Hobart after winning four gold medals at last week’s State titles. He won the Under 14 years discus, the hammer throw (setting State records in both), the shot put and the javelin, and gained automatic qualification in all events.
When asked, Greg said that his longterm goal was to represent Australia in athletics but with his earlier selection in the Queensland Under 14 rugby league team, was unsure which way to go in the future.

Pre-Wedding Evening
Miss Joyce Reid, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Reid of Allora, will be married on Saturday to Mr. Andrew Haig of ‘Richmond’, Allora, and in her honour Mrs. P. F. Donovan and Misses Mavis Robin and Daphne Graham arranged a pre-wedding evening in Allora. The function was largely attended by the
Mary Gordon.
many friends of the happy couple who gathered to wish them happiness and prosperity in the future.
Rev. A. E. Loxton, on behalf of the gathering, made the presentation of a handsome gift of money to Miss Reid. Mr. George Anderson, uncle of Miss Reid, and Mr. G. Haig suitably replied.
Dancing was enjoyed by the guests and a dainty supper was served.
Allora’s Past 100 years ago October 1922 Princess Allora
The ‘Princess’ competition, inaugurated by the Allora branch of the R.S.S.I.L.A. in aid to the Brisbane Children’s Hospital, was won by the Hendon Princess (Mrs. Middleton), the result of her efforts totalling £57/10/6. She has now won the title of ‘Princess Allora’. The Diggers’ Princess (Miss Burge)
followed closely with £50. These totals made a grand total for Allora and district of £107/10/6.
Allora’s Past 125 years ago October 1897 Golden Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gordon, very old and respected residents of Allora, celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary. There was a party of 38 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren present. Mr. H. de Burgh Anderson, the only ‘outsider’ in the company, proposed health to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon in felicitous terms, and the toast was honoured in the heartiest manner. Mr. Andrew Gordon acknowledged the complements on behalf of the old couple. Other appropriate toasts were also honoured. After dinner, some hours were devoted to dancing, and the gathering throughout was as pleasant to the young people as it must have been to the heads of the table. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon are some of the surviving pioneers of the Allora district. It is forty years since they settled here.
