Congratulations to Arch Chandler Who Is 99 Next Monday
Arch was born in Glen Innes on 2nd May 1923 At the age of 5 his family of Mum, Dad and 6 children moved to Brookstead. It took 2 days as the roads were unsealed and top speed was 30 miles an hour. There he rode a horse about 5 and a half miles to school.
Following the sale of the property, Arch then went to Dalby State School for about 6 months before the family relocated to Pikedale, Stanthorpe on a sheep property of 3,300 acres. Living 22 miles out of Stanthorpe called for correspondence schooling.

Arch arrived in Allora on his 12th Birthday where he attended the Upper Spring Creek School. On leaving school he helped clear and fence country to enable crops to be grown. It was hard work back then as machinery wasn’t as it is today. Arch married Daph Gillam on the 29th March 1948. This year celebrating 74 years. Arch was a partner in an ice run in Toowoomba and also worked at The Toowoomba Foundry. The love of the land saw them return to Allora to
share-farm a dairy farm. They then bought their own farm in Joel Park Road and established a sheep and grain farm where they lived until retirement. Arch was highly involved in his church and Indoor Bowls, these days still very interested in watching Tennis and Footy. Last year Arch won the NRL Footy Tipping Competition at The Homestead. Arch & Daph both reside at The Allora Homestead. Longevity — He’d probably say A Hard Days Work Hurt No One!!!

Happy Birthday Joffre Bell 102 Today - 27th April
Born in Clifton in 1920 Joffre and his wife Rhyl still call Clifton home, even though Joffre is now living at Nirvana assisted living facility. Joffre attended the Southport School and is now recognised as the oldest living Old Boy. After leaving School Joffre worked in the family business, O.B.Bell & Co. Among his interests, he’s a member of the Clifton Freemasons Lodge and the Australian Esperanto Association. In September 1940 Joffre enlisted with the Royal Australian Air Force.
He left Australia in December 1940 bound for Canada where he continued his training under the Empire Air Training Scheme. After completion he crossed the Atlantic arriving in Britain on 31 July 1941. On 2 November 1941 he was posted to 405 Squadron (Royal Canadian Air Force) flying in Wellington bombers. Known as ‘Sammy’ to his mates, Joffre took part in two raids against the town of Emden in Germany and the dry dock at St. Nazaire in Normandy, France on 28 March 1942 before being grounded due to air sickness. He then served for five months as a Station Navigator officer before returning to the air with 102 Squadron (RAF) flying in Halifax bombers. He flew in a number of raids including some against German towns and cities such as Duisburg, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, and Flensburg. He transitioned from the air force in January 1946 having attained the rank of
Warrant Officer. “Joffre has fond memories of his war service and the mates I had in it”. It’s these mates who Joffre remembers on Anzac Day, a day he dedicates to them. As a special treat Joffre was flown by helicopter
last Friday to the Southport School to the delight of him and the students. Congratulations Joffre! On his 100th birthday he said “it’s just damn good luck!” - wonder what he’ll say today?

Fundraiser For Ukraine Family Touches Hearts
It was only two weeks ago that local Sally Edwards had the idea of raising funds in Warwick to reunite a Ukrainian family with their daughter in Queensland. “I can’t believe the outpouring of love for this family” she said. “I have had so many phone messages of support and donations”. “ We have nearly reached our target of $15,000 and I feel confident with just a few more donations we will make it”. The family of five have now made it across the border into Poland and are in a resettlement centre in Krakow “they are really shell shocked, they have lost everything” said Sally.” “They
are so grateful to the people of Warwick who have raised this money for them – they can now see that they have options”. “If you still want to help you can find out more information at www. warwicklifestyleproperty/make-adifference or drop into the Warwick Credit Union with a donation. The next fundraising idea is to hold a huge garage sale on Saturday 7th May at 65 Locke Street Warwick. “I have already received lots of items for sale, the more the merrier” said Sally. Good quality items can be dropped off at the house before then. For further information call Sally on 0478 161 817

Support For Farmers Land Valuation Hikes Should Be Challenged Into Ownership
The Federal Government will pilot an 18-month $75 million Future Farmer Guarantee Scheme to support farmers into first time ownership. Under the scheme, the Government will guarantee 40% of an eligible new farmer’s commercial loan up to a maximum value of $1 million. Minister for Agriculture and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said the scheme would assist experienced farmers to address the number one barrier to establishing their own farm business – access to capital. “Existing landholders are ageing – the average broadacre farmer is 62 years old, with only 10 per cent aged under 47,” Minister Littleproud said. “Rising land values and the typical 40 to 60% equity deposit required by commercial banks without this Government guarantee mean that getting access to a bank loan to start a viable business is very difficult. “This is not a free for all – applicants will need to
David Littleproud MP
have on-farm experience, a minimum deposit and be a sound lending prospect from the banks perspective. The farmer is still on the hook for their loan. “This support will help families access capital to assist with succession planning, as well as help those families and farmers getting into ownership for the first time.” Mr Littleproud said. $1.45 million will be provided to the Regional Investment Corporation to administer the program which would open 1 January 2023, and funding for the $75 million guarantee will come from existing RIC appropriations.
AgForce is urging Queensland landholders not to delay if they want to object to new land valuations – or risk being lumped with higher council rates and rent. AgForce CEO Michael Guerin said the time for landholders to speak up was now, with objections needing to be lodged with the Valuer-General by 30 May 2022. “In recent years, AgForce has assisted many members secure significant reductions in valuations, resulting in large savings, and once again we are ready to assist with our free workshops to help people assess their valuations and find out more about the objection process. “AgForce has also prepared a property map for each member property potentially affected by this year’s valuations.” AgForce’s valuer John
Moore said responsibility for ensuring values were correct lay with landowners, not local governments. “Unimproved values are done by mass appraisal, meaning your property isn’t individually valued so errors can occur,” Mr Moore said. “It’s important you object to your new valuation if you believe the unimproved value is too high, because it could result in large savings in rates or rent. Landowners who disagree with their valuation and are able to provide supporting information can lodge their objection online or at the address shown at the top of their valuation notice by 30 May 2022. If you don’t have internet access, call 1300 664 217 to request an objection kit.

Wattles junior Warriors boy’s teams headed to Toowoomba and the girls to Inglewood on Saturday to commence their Warwick & District Junior Rugby League 2022 season. Wattles kicked off their year with a bye Round and so engaged what was a day of trials against Brothers who had drawn a bye Round in the Toowoomba Junior Rugby League competition. Under 17 - Wattles finished behind a polished Under 16 Leprechauns outfit 10 – 22, with the Toowoomba side coming off a strong preparation including classy performances in the recent Adrian Vowles Cup Carnival in Charleville. Brothers fielded an Under 16 combination against Wattles Under 16/17. Under 15 - Wattles Under 15 side matched up against a strong Brothers outfit that proved too good
on the day, the home side finishing ahead 42 – 12. Under 13 - Wattles Under 13 team put it to a tough Leprechauns lineup making an outstanding come back from 16-0 down after 10 minutes to be within two points of their opponents on the scoreboard with just five minutes remaining. After such a sterling effort the Warriors fell short 28 – 20. Under 12 - A four try blitz in a sensational performance by lock forward Jack Burton was the foundation for Wattles 32 – 12 victory over home side Brothers. Coach Jason Fogarty commended his young troops on “the best first half of rugby league you will see”, outstanding defence the highlight. Under 11 - Brothers proved a difficult challenge for the Warriors in the Under 11 match. Nevertheless, those in green and gold can hold there head high and look to their achievements in their next outing. Under 10 - Brothers’ abundance of numbers saw
them front with two capable Under 10 teams, but Coach Russell McMillan was impressed with how his side handled their opposition, “they went very well.” Under 9 - Wattles Under 9’s had two rough games against Brothers but did themselves proud. Wattles were short on numbers with seven taking the field along with a couple of borrowed players from hosts Brothers forming our team. Under 8 - Overall Wattles Under 8’s can be happy with good team performance against Brothers, especially in defence where the young Warriors only let in a couple of tries over the two games played. Under 7 - As a part of the new NRL guidelines a tackle ready course is to be run for the Under 7 age group prior to them being allowed to tackle in the final three games of the season. Wattles commence their six-week course on Thursday this week with NRL Game Development Officer Mal Sweeney attending.
Under 6 - Coach Shadae Daley rated her Wattles Under 6 sides game as awesome against Brothers, the youngsters under the watchful eye of stand in mentor Jared Gault on Saturday. Shadae noted “The sportsmanship displayed by Brothers was great to see, we were short a couple in numbers and home club players were more than happy to play for Wattles.” League Tag - Wattles’ Under 15 girls league tag team headed Inglewood way taking on Tenterfield enduring a 32 – 10 loss. Wattles teams, boys & girls, head to Warwick this Saturday for the 2nd Round of the Warwick & District Junior Rugby League premiership, playing the Collegians Dragons at St Mark’s Sports Grounds. In other junior rugby league action, an Under 11 Warriors team are making their way to Pittsworth for the annual Manktelow Challenge at Pittsworth this weekend, 1st & 2nd May. Glyn Rees

Wattles Edge out Cowboys in Battle Royale
A massive crowd of rugby league fans filled Platz Oval on Sunday to see the ‘Stillwater Pastoral Company’ Wattles Warriors first graders overwhelm arch rivals the Warwick Cowboys 30 – 22 and gusty weather conditions. The match resulted in a win for Wattles, but far from one of their better games, with half back Matt Duggan along with forwards Jordon Crocker and Michael Pearson leading the way to a three from three fixture success and a perch at the top of the TRL first grade ladder. Wattles speed machines Austin Jennings & Aaron Hooper showed their wares contributing to a home side win that had its shaky moments against the determined Cowboys outfit. While Jennings crossed after a quick silver streak down the grand stand side in just the third minute of play, Hooper nailed a hat trick of touchdowns and helped cement a valuable win later in the second half. Captain/coach Travis Burns was busy in his playmaker roll, but felt both sides played below par and suffered at the hands of poor ball control. “We couldn’t build momentum, no roll on” said Burns, “we played well for twenty minutes of the game.” In any stoush between Warwick and Wattles, “the Cowboys keep turning up, they are so hard to beat.” A gem of a Matt Duggan pass sent Jennings away on his match opening 30 metre try scoring gallop, skirting the attempted tackle of Warwick fullback Dan Watson to score. After taking a 4 – 0 lead Wattles error rate took control allowing the Cowboys tries as a result through centre Mat Marshall and five-eight/ skipper Mick Bloomfield. Matt Duggan kicked across field prior to half time for winger Hooper to take and score in the south-west corner, both sides heading to the break with Warwick holding on to a 10 – 8 lead. With rain mizzle starting to fall as the second stanza opened, both sides lifted, Wattles frontrower Michael Pearson steaming over for a try in the 43rd minute, followed up by a touchdown by Warwick back-rower Brock Patti to see the visitors continue clutching
a slim advantage, 16 – 14. When Hooper capitalised on a Travis Burns kick and scored in the 51st minute, it opened the door to a seven minute touchdown spree with centre Nick Van Der Poel and Hooper’s third try for Wattles to lead 30 – 16 with twenty minutes remaining on the match clock. The Warwick side were far from done though, another try to Marshall and a scoreline of 30 – 22 building a hotly contested finish for the venue packed crowd. Coach Burns is in no doubt his side need to focus on improvement at training as they prepare to go head to head with the Highfields Eagles on Sunday May 8th at Highfields’ Kuhl’s Road facility. A concern for Wattles is an injury to speed machine Austin Jennings who appears to have a hamstring strain. A member of the Toowoomba Clydesdales side heading to the QRL Central Division 47th Battalion Trophy Carnival in Gladstone this weekend, Jenning’s may be at risk of missing the tour. Wattles 30 (Aaron Hooper 3, Austin Jennings, Nick Van Der Poel, Michael Pearson tries; Matt Duggan 3 goals) Warwick 22 (Mat Marshall 2, Michael Bloomfield, Brock Patti tries; Mat Marshall 3 goals) Reserve Grade - After a blazing start to the 2022 TRL season where they tallied up 104 points to just 6 against in their opening two fixtures, the ‘Tony Morris Tiling’ Wattles reserve grade side tumbled back to Platz Oval in a desperate scrap against the Warwick Cowboys for a gritty 12 – 10 victory. The Warriors got off to a handy start with five-eight Joe Morris scoring in the eighth minute after an elusive twenty metre run by centre Darby Peardon was halted just eight metres short of the Cowboys tryline. Tom Henry secured Wattles second try midway through the first half allowing the home side a 12 – 0 lead at the break. While the Wattles line-up would not have been aware, they wouldn’t bother the scoreboard attendant again. Cowboys winger Matthew Henry ran in first points for the visitors before fullback Jordyn Hogden touched down in the 31st minute setting up a fiercely contested closing stage.
After a Man of the Match performance, Wattles Reserve Grade back Darby Peardon was presented with the Peter Watts Memorial Medallion by Nathan Watts on Sunday.
Wattles hung on to maintain their undefeated status for the premiership so far. Co-captain/coach Garth Lonergan had little praise for his team’s performance, “a lot of dropped ball worked against us, but our defence held out when it had to.” Lonergan and coaching partner Nick Morris were obviously happy to get the win, “but we need to be better with the match against Highfields on the horizon.” Darby Peardon was judged player of the match and awarded the “Peter Watt Memorial Medalion” for his efforts. Peter Watt was a great supporter of both the Wattles and Warwick clubs, as well as being a valued past player and sponsor. The medallion, donated by the Watt family is awarded annually when Wattles meet Warwick in Reserve Grade at Platz Ova. Wattles 12 (Joe Morris, Tom Henry tries; Tom Morris 2 goals) Warwick 10 (Matthew Henry, Jordyn Hogden tries; Jeremy Jerome goal) Under 19 - A four to one first half try scoring advantage and a 22 – 4 half time lead to the Warwick Cowboys laid the foundation for a one-sided 34 – 8 success to the visitors. Warwick ran up a 16 – 0 lead by the ten minute mark, before a four-pointer by winger Liam Ruhle put Wattles on the scoreboard. The Warriors fullback Gus Hutchinson opened the second half scoring just eight minutes after
the restart, having run into a gap near the Warwick try line. Warwick closed the game out crossing twice in the second stanza. Wattles struggled with necessary line-up changes brought about by player unavailability, injuries and work, with coach Cameron Hamblin saying “the Cowboys were just too good.” While Wattles put up a fair effort, and have impressed over the past few weeks, they have plenty to work on. Hamblin was particularly impressed with front rower Lachlan Stroud and fellow forwards John ‘Smasher’ Lazzaroni, Will Denny and Braeden Middleton all of whom worked hard in the middle. Five-eight Matt Wilson was busy trying to create opportunities while centre Marley Tunstead was effective on the edges. Wattles debutante Hayden Doherty impressed until sustaining a shoulder injury. Warwick 34 (Dean Mauch, Jeffrey Ross, Sam Declan Raumati, Augustus McDade, Lucas Bradfield, Nick Carrie tries; Nicholas Carrie 5 goals) Black Toyota, Warwick Wattles 4 (Liam Ruhle, Gus Hutchinson tries) With no Toowoomba Rugby League fixtures this weekend due to representative commitments, Wattles are on the road on May 8th heading to Highfields to take on local side the Eagles. Allora Bowls Notes
WEEK THIRTEEN Congratulations to the winners and runners-up of this season’s competition. Peaky Blinders just pipped Do It Again after a play off. Both teams finished the competition on 22 points and had to play two ends to decide the winner. The competition creates enthusiasm but the main attraction of night bowls is the comradeship and friendliness, all players acknowledging a good shot by a team member or the opposition. The weekly winners and losers were Stone Cutters and Fire Ants. Thank you to Tony Morris Tiling for his sponsorship during the last season. Thank you to Leanne Doepel (The Cleaning Lady) for her sponsorship of the touchers competition. This week’s winners were Trevor, Gary, Pam, Max, Fiona and Lyn Patto.

This week there were plenty of chances to win a raffle prize with two team trophies and a donation from Len Hoey. Thank you to all sponsors, Railway Hotel, Allora Butchery, Percy Fruit and Allora Sports Club. The button was pressed a dozen times before Mark won the $40 Jackpot prize. Wow, Moely had the green in top condition. He was still on the machine when we arrived. Thank you Moley. Thank you to all the
