Toowoomba LifeFlight base retains unfortunate title
Toowoomba’s RACQ LifeFlight Rescue base has retained the title of Queensland’s busiest aeromedical chopper base, after completing 650 critical missions, including attending a significantly higher number of car crashes, in the 2020 calendar year. Director of Helicopter Operations, Brian Guthrie, said Toowoomba crews were called to 91 motor vehicle accidents between January and December last year. “That’s up more than 20 per cent on the previous year,” he said. On average, that is up to two motor vehicle incidents a week which are so serious, they require an aeromedical response. In the twelve months to January, the fleet of RACQ LifeFlight Rescue community helicopters completed 1,947 missions. In 2020, RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Air Ambulance jets, community helicopters and critical care doctors came to the aid of 6,186 people. “The service RACQ LifeFlight Rescue provides, in Queensland, is second-to-none,” Mr Guthrie said. “While 2020 wasn’t our busiest year overall, for our
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue choppers, we’re really proud of our performance, over the past 12 months. “Nearly 2,000 lives were saved, by our rotary aircraft across Queensland, because RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crews were able to quickly respond.” You’ll see the difference In 2020, RACQ LifeFlight Rescue staff, including aircrew, We can truck over PTY LTD.medical, engineering and fundraising, had to quickly ABN Discretionary 27 614Trust 920 669 adopt new working procedures, required as a result of the 12,000 litres to you! Hodgsonvale Community Wanted – Used Sports Club notes Postage Stamps and/or Unwanted Stamp Albums
Householders’ Options to Protect the Environment (HOPE) has called on residents and businesses to collect stamps from their incoming mail for re-use by local community groups. Community groups take the stamps and re-sell them to raise funds for local and overseas missions work. President of HOPE, Frank Ondrus said it’s not just single stamps that are useful. “We also welcome unwanted stamp album collections and collections of stamps from Esperanto club members,” he said. “You can post a pack of used stamps to the HOPE (Householders’ Options to Protect the Environment) office, PO Box 6118, Clifford Gardens, Toowoomba, QLD 4350; or drop them off at 22 Vacy Street, Toowoomba.” Mr Ondrus said activities such as these are in the direct interest of the HOPE organisation, as not only do the funds raised provide aid to those in need, but it also encourages home recycling and re-using. “If any HOPE or other community members are involved in or have ideas of any other projects or activities of the same sort, HOPE would love to know about it and help kick-start or aid similar projects,” he said.

Pickers on the Downs
We’ve all heard the saying “one mans trash is another mans treasure” and this is so true to Pickers on the Downs, situated at 42 Neil Street in Toowoomba, opposite the bus interchange. The owner, Tony Wagstaff, is a quiet kind of man, but don’t let that deceive you - he is a skilled Picker. For those who don’t know what a Picker is, they are the Pirates of the modern world, hunting out all the best treasures for others to enjoy, treasures that can transform a space into anything your imagination desires. Tony’s treasures, which best describe the variety of items he has packed into his shop, offer so much more to the astute shopper. For example, Tony’s treasures can be used to a decorate a grand entrance or theme an entire business, or be a talking point when friends come together - or they can be used simply as a gift. And if memorabilia is your thing, look no further, there are plenty of memorabilia treasures waiting for you. Pickers on the Downs is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Saturday from 10am to around 1pm. It is a real treasure trove full of bizarre, unusual, interesting, rare, collectable, extraordinary and nostalgic treasures, and its right here on the Downs and can be contacted on 0414 873 903.
Pickers on the Downs is at 42 Neil Street, opposite the Toowoomba bus interchange. 200

Central Downs bowlers shine in win over Lockyer
The fourth round of Mitchell Shield cricket saw the Central Downs team playing Lockyer in a must-win match for both teams, with no wins recorded for either side on the season. On an unpredictable green wicket, it was Central Downs who were able to come out victors with the bowlers dealing out much of the damage, chasing down Lockyer’s 106 to win by five wickets. Star Nobby performer Cameron Moodie, who captained Central Downs, won the toss and on a green and varying wicket, elected to bowl first. The first two overs were good for the batting side before James Sinclair struck in the third over to get the first wicket for Central Downs. A partnership between Josh Reisenleiter (20) and Kelsey O’Dea (9) saw the visitors to 44 runs at the next wicket, and from there the wickets continued to fall at a consistent rate.
