Greenmount State School has started 2023 at a cracking pace and it’s wonderful to see our school abuzz with the learning.

The Term One calendar is filling up fast with amazing opportunities.

Last week we were very fortunate to be involved in a workshop created by Indigenous Artist, Uncle Arthur.

Arthur came to our school to paint a mural on a large canvas which involved all students.

He explained the meaning of the Rainbow Serpent and showed the students the art of dot painting.

At the end of the day the whole school learnt the craft of creating a turtle portrait with bright colours using oil crayons.

On Thursday, 16th February the Greenmount students went to Goomburra National Park with Amaroo.

The students participated in different games while learning about Indigenous culture and history.

The students were then invited to go down to the creek where they proceeded to catch and investigate the many different water insects and other living things in the creek.

According to the students this was the best part of the day. The students then completed the day with some art activities and a nature scavenger hunt.

Overall, the day was a great success and the students learnt a lot about Indigenous culture and life and living from the science curriculum as well as learning about significant places from HASS.
