Don’t miss the Toowoomba Show this weekend
The 2022 Toowoomba Royal Show is a jam-packed schedule of events over three days that is sure to something for everyone. Gates open at 9am on Friday, a public holiday in the Toowoomba Region. Friday and Saturday are both 9am to 9pm and Sunday is 9am to 5pm. Once you have paid your entry ticket, there will be over 50 things to see and do without paying more. Among the attractions include pig races, cooking with Paul West (host of River Cottage Australia), Bluey & Bingo Live, Globe Riders, sheep dog trials, Crop Competition Presentation, Sheep Shearing Show, Aussie FMX Freestyle Motocross, live music, fireworks and much more. As part of the 100th anniversary of the QCWA, Paul West will battling against the best scone-making ladies in the state in a scone bake off. Due to Queensland Government regulations, to be able to enter patrons will need to be double-vaccinated. Toowoomba Royal Show CEO Damon Phillips said he was hopeful that there would be a late change to this policy, as not only will this reduce the amount of people who can attend but will require extra security to check vaccination statuses, costing thousands. The Managing Director of The Mulberry Project, Nobby’s Louise Noble, has been is heavily involved in the show this year as her organisation, which operates out of the Toowoomba Showgrounds, is helping to run several events. These include a Scarecrow Competition that is being run for the first time, which will be on display in the Veggie Patch and the Clive Berghofer Founders Pavilion precinct. In conjunction with Heritage Bank, The Mulberry Project is also helping to organise Long Lunches on Friday and Saturday which incorporate foods made by Afghan refugees. Tickets are available online at toowoombashow.com.au

Water pipeline consultation extended
Community consultation on the proposed pipeline from Toowoomba to Warwick has been extended to ensure any residents who may have been impacted by the recent floods still have time to have their say.
Consultation was scheduled to close last week, but Minister for Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water Glenn Butcher said late submissions will be accepted until the end of March. “We know there are many who are working through a range of issues associated with the recent floods and we don’t want those people to lose the opportunity to share their opinion about this important project,” he said. Mr Butcher said a common question in the early stages of this consultation process had been about the volume of water being moved through the proposed pipeline. “People might find it helpful to know about the scale of water needed for Warwick’s drought contingency in terms of ‘Sydney Harbours.’ “Following the recent floods and discussions around Wivenhoe Dam, people have become familiar with the measurement of a Sydney Harbour and how it relates to the volumes of water in Wivenhoe Dam,” he said. “We know that when the flood storage compartments are not in use, Wivenhoe Dam holds two Sydney Harbours. This proposed pipeline for water supply to the Southern Downs would take up to 2,700 megalitres per year, or half a per cent of one Sydney Harbour,” he said. That’s the equivalent of three Olympic swimming pools per day. “Of course, we’re only talking about potential maximum volumes taken from Wivenhoe Dam during times of drought for the Southern Downs – but that might help people to visualise the volumes of water we’re talking about with the pipeline.” Any water supplied to Warwick would be separate to Toowoomba’s allocation from Wivenhoe Dam and would not impact Toowoomba’s water security or supply. New national cattle body proposed
Cattle Australia has been formed with the aim of being the national peak body for the grass-fed cattle industry, providing a visible, unified and influential voice for producers. It is planned that the new peak body will officially launch on 1st July 2022, with the Cattle Council of Australia’s responsibilities transitioning to Cattle Australia. Cattle Australia is a result of collaboration between industry and government over the past 12 months to ensure the cattle industry can meet current and future challenges as well as contribute to the Commonwealth’s goal for the agricultural sector to become a $100 billion industry by 2030. The nine-person Board of Directors will consist of seven democratically elected Directors who will in-turn appoint two skills-based Directors. Directors will then elect a Chair. The Policy Advisory Council will comprise fifteen directly elected levy paying producers from identified Meat & Livestock Australia Regional Advisory Council regions and eight State Farming Organisation (SFO) representatives, appointed by their respective SFO, with oversight of an independent chair. Andrew Macaulay, the Independent Chair of the Steering Committee, said the governance arrangements will allow Cattle Australia to deliver clear leadership and direction for the industry through a more effective model of national producer representation. “Cattle Australia will build on the important work undertaken by Cattle Council of Australia – the current Australian peak cattle organisation – but with its new governance structure, it will broaden its representative base, to represent the interests of all Australian grass-fed cattle producers,” Mr Macaulay said. “It will be the national peak industry council, uniting levy payers and engaging with cattle producers and industry stakeholders, so that it can advocate on important matters to the industry, lead and direct policy development and its AFFORDABLE PRECISION implementation, and protect the profitability, competitiveness AERIAL APPLICATION and future of the cattle industry.” dc@dronecommander.com.au HAVE YOUR SAY Roger Woods BSc www.dronecommander.com.au Cattle producers are invited to help shape the future of the 0400 283 319 Facebook.com/dronecommander grass-fed cattle industry by sharing their views on work priorities. Producers and other invested stakeholders have until Friday, 15 April to have their say on what the new entity’s key focus areas should be. The Hospice has cared for over 1,700 clients with the highest standard of care to all, however, to maintain this level of support, they rely heavily on the financial assistance of the community to fund an operating budget of $1.90 million dollars per annum. Just over $392,500 has been raised over the last 9 years. “This year we hope to raise at least $30,000,” Mr Munro said. As an extra incentive, the Boss who raises the most money gets to host the 2023 Hang Ya Boss Out To Dry at their workplace in addition to which, all those who get hung out to dry go into a draw to win a barbecue donated by Harvey Norman. The event will be held on Friday 27 May 2021 from 6am at the Harvey Norman Centre, 910 - 932 Ruthven Street. Mr Munro said you can be guaranteed that your time and money will be going to a great cause. It was great to see parents, grandparents and little ones get involved with this initiative and help our kids get that little bit closer to camp. The SRC would like to congratulate Mr Orb Gorton who, on day 10, managed to guess the closest and luckily grandchildren Ashlee, Aiden and Mason were very quick to claim Grandad’s prize. Let’s hope Grandad got at least 1 jelly bean! Our next fundraising venture will be our famous Cadbury Chocolate drive commencing early term 2. We will keep you posted!

The culvert crossing over the creek is closed to vehicular traffic at the moment as it has been undermined in the recent flood event and there is a steep drop off on one side. This situation is even more dangerous at night time. The alternate route via Carinya drive and through the top car park is almost finished. Signage will go up once the new temporary entrance is complete, thanks to the TRC for their ongoing works. Due to the uncertainty of whether works would be finished in time the two remaining Friday night functions for this summer period have been cancelled. We will return with our Friday night functions again in early October. - Ted Cavanagh, Secretary

Cambooya State School CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL Cambooya State School held its annual Cross Country Carnival last week and it was a fabulous event both on and off the course. It was great to see supporters back at the finish line to encourage our students along as they came back into the school grounds and towards the finish line. The carnival included students from Prep – Year 6 with the younger students running an obstacle course while the older students ran 1, 2 or 3 kilometre courses. Congratulations to all of the students for the great effort in completing the course and of course to all of our age champions for 2022. Thank you also to all of
The winners, from left: Georgia, Heath, Lachlan, Lexie, Alyssa and Harley. the helpers on the day and to Mrs Davies for all of your help with training and organisation.

Bunker’s Hill State School
mud was so thick that we needed lots of team work to conquer the long mud pits. The screams and laughter of our class was deafening, we were having so much fun! At night time we had more obstacles to face. Giant green frogs and brown toads were carefully guarding our cabins and bathroom doors. Only the brave soldiers (Year 6 students and Miss Rummell) could get past them! EMU GULLY CAMP Even the terrifying tunnels couldn’t beat this group of Year Mud, slides, swings and tunnels. These are just some of the 6 leaders, with students facing their fears and completing the amazing experiences the Year 6 students from Bunker’s Hill course. We couldn’t have done it without lots of encouragement were able to participate in at Emu Gully Camp. from each other, and 100 percent effort from all of us. Squishy mud through our toes, clothes and in our hair. The Swimming in the dam was definitely a highlight. There were 2 diving boards that were different heights, a slide, and big swing that you hung onto, swinging you out onto the dam when you let go. The swing was a blast and definitely tested our courage. It was a wonder we didn’t sink, as we were so full from the mouthwatering food we ate whilst on camp! Emu Gully was the most amazing camp we have ever been on. Not only did we have lots of fun, we also learnt about leadership and teamwork. We are now ready to be the best school leaders we possibly can, for 2022. Emu Gully was not the type of place to bring your best clothes. - Year 6 students
