‘Show Me’ an early Christmas Complimentary parking in CBD CHRISTMAS TRADING… Local businesses are looking forward to Christmas trading this year, as Shepparton’s parking bays become complimentary to park in during the festive season. Pictured, Shepparton Show Me Coordinator, Mat Innes-Irons. Photo: Alicia Niglia.
“WE’RE trying to encourage people from out of town, as well as locals, to do their Christmas shopping right here in Shepparton. “This festive season your parking in the CBD is on Shepparton Show Me,” Mat said. Showcase Jewellers Proprietor, Steven Schneider said, “It’s certainly a good initiative. “We find that one of the concerns customers have is getting back to their meters in time and not having the right change for the full two hours, so this will free them up to enjoy their shopping experience more and spend time browsing in the great shops in Shepparton’s CBD. “I’m sure consumers will also respond very positively. It will add to the vitality of the CBD in this busy trading period,” Steven said.

IT’S time for Shepparton to sparkle and showcase the gifts and activities that are available in the lead up to Christmas. The Show Me Christmas in Shepparton campaign kicked off this week encouraging shoppers to experience the magic of Christmas in Shepparton. The campaign is promoting Shepparton as a shopping wonderland, with the streets coming alive with festive cheer with events occurring across Shepparton throughout the month of December. “This is the first time that there has been a fully co-ordinated approach to promoting Shepparton as THE place to get your Christmas gifts,” explains Shepparton Show Me Chairperson, Cr Les Oroszvary. “Council, Chamber of Commerce, Marketplace, Riverside Plaza and Emerald Bank have all come together under the Shepparton Show Me banner to offer a full program of Christmas activities to attract people to Shepparton to enjoy some Christmas cheer and purchase their Christmas gifts at one of Shepparton’s many speciality and big name stores.”
You will be able to find Santa at one of his workshop locations whether it’s in the Maude Street Mall, the Marketplace or Riverside Plaza. The kids can have their photo taken with the big guy or just take the opportunity to tell Santa what is on their Christmas list. There will be free jumping castles, roving entertainment, horse and carriage rides and face painting, just to name a few. Santa’s elves will be providing gift wrapping services for a gold coin donation. The elves will be located with Santa in his workshop locations. Just listen to the radio, grab a copy of your local newspaper or check out the Shepparton Show Me Facebook page to see the full list of activities on offer to help brighten your Christmas. While you’re on the Shepparton Show Facebook page check out the range of Christmas bargains that are on sale across the city. Specials and Christmas ideas from local retailers will be promoted regularly. Don’t forget to look for the shops displaying the ‘Santa Shops Here’ logo. Just answer the question on the Santa Post Card and you’re in with a chance to win a prize!
Trading hours extended for Christmas EXTENDED trading hours over the Christmas period aim to boost the local economy and give Goulburn Valley businesses a positive start to the new year. Local businesses are encouraged to take advantage of the extended hours, recommended by the Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), to give local families more time to prepare for Christmas and more reason to shop locally. SCCI President, Jamie Cox said, “It’s great to see the number of activities happening within the CBD this Festive
Season. Complimentary timed parking from December 13 to 24 will assist shoppers in saving some extra dollars and with traders working with us to be open for those days, in a consistent and unified way, we expect it will increase the effectiveness of these campaigns. “I encourage all traders to work with us in showing the region Shepparton is open for business this Xmas.” Recommended trading hours for the 2013 Christmas and New Year period include stores opening 9am to late on the three Fridays leading up to Christmas, 9am to 4pm Saturdays and 10am to 2pm
Sundays. Stores are also encouraged to open for late night shopping until late on Thursday, December 19 and Monday, December 23 and from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday, December 24 before closing for Christmas Day. If businesses intend on taking advantage of Boxing Day Sales opening is recommended from 10am to 3pm on December 26 and returning to normal business hours until closing January 1 for New Years Day.

DECORATIVE STREETSCAPE… Tatura’s streetscape is thriving with Christmas cheer, after a group of locals decked shop windows, balconies and trees with decorations. Photo: Supplied.
Tatura unveils unique Christmas decorating project TATURA has come alive with unique Christmas decorations framing shop windows, balconies and tree guards giving the streetscape an explosion of colour for the festive season. The Christmas decorations have all been made from a variety of recycled, up-cycled, preloved, pre-used, repurposed, rescued and nonmanufactured (home-made) items. The project was developed by a group of locals and proudly supported by Transition Tatura, Tatura Community Plan, Tatura Art Group, Tatura Men’s Shed and Tatura Art Supplies. Spokesperson Marli Kelly said that the amount of new materials used in the Christmas decorations was kept to an absolute minimum. “We created Christmas decorations out of everything from op-shop material to recycled containers. The Men’s Shed made the Christmas trees that are on the tree guards in the main street and the stars that are on balconies out of the old hospital fence. They also created a huge Christmas tree for Stuart Mock Place out of cut up old car tyres. “We hoped to attract attention and bring visitors to our wonderful town by brightening up Hogan Street with a range of decorations during this festive time of year. At the same time, it was important to highlight the amount of waste we produce, not only at Christmas time but all throughout the year and educate residents on the limited resources we have in the world,” Marli Kelly said. The project goal was to reuse as many products and resources as possible.
Small mini Christmas trees out of tree branches adorn cash registers at Fishers IGA Supermarket and metres of bunting was made out of recycled material that is across many shop windows. Old sheet music was made into lovely strings of bunting and school children from both Sacred Heart Primary School and Tatura Primary School made hundreds of items that have gone in two shop windows. Massive wreaths that adorn balconies and are in shops were created by tying knots of material on to rims that were made by frames from an old strawberry farm. The Tatura Art Group members using only recycled materials created a display in a vacant central shop window. Art Group member Phyl Mactier chose the Christmas carol “We Three Kings”, as the theme and the result has blown residents away. Ugg boots for a camel’s head, dog’s hair clippings for eyelashes, curved table legs for body parts, the list goes on. The inventive ways they used materials has been inspiring. Moyola Lodge residents made a huge array of novelty items including miniature decorations for a bicycle spoke tree. Residents made choir angels, painted golf balls and made mini Christmas dolls. Another artistic resident, Barrie Miller made a miniature installation of Three Kings complete with gifts for a shop front. “We hope residents and visitors alike enjoy the results of the project, it has certainly been a huge community effort.”

Enjoy your optical benefits this Christmas YOUR FRIENDLY OPTICAL SPECIALISTS… Pictured, Shepparton Optical Services Receptionist, Casey Bann. Photo: Alicia Niglia.
YOUR local optometrist and eyewear specialists, Shepparton Optical Services have some fantastic benefits for their customers throughout December. Shepparton Optical Services customers can enjoy a great range of fashion eyewear and sunglasses including brands like Oroton, Police (exclusively), Ray-Ban, Guess, Prada, Spotters and Vera Wang to mention a few with their big 30 percent off sale right up until Christmas Eve. Shepparton Optical Services also has a great range of lower priced, quality eyewear to choose from as well. Shepparton Optical Services, Proprietor and Optical Dispenser, Theresia Cirillo said, “We also stock a full range of designer optical wear including Prada, Vera Wang, Ray-Ban, Guess, CK, Charlie Brown, Nina Ricci as well as Morrissey. “Our warranties are exceptional and we pride ourselves on the quality of our product. We combine our friendly approach with the latest technology to provide the best possible service for our customers.” Shepparton Optical Services have been servicing the needs of the region for more than 23 years and
have the experience and expertise to help maintain the long term health of your eyes. Theresia said, “It is also important for our clients to know that if they have unused optical benefits they should act now, so that it doesn’t go to waste. “For example, when you pay for extras cover, your heath fund allocates a certain amount of money for you to buy glasses or contact lenses during the year. If you don’t use it in the allocated time (usually before December 31) most health funds keep the money. It’s the same as paying for glasses but never receiving them. “You can actually use these funds towards getting a pair of prescription sunglasses, an upgrade on your current spectacles or even a spare pair of extra reading glasses to have in the car or to leave at work. It makes sense. “We encourage our clients to come in and see us so that we can help with all of their optical needs.” For more information, call in and see the team at Shepparton Optical Services 58 High Street, Shepparton, phone 5822 1411 or alternatively, 18 Melville Street, Numurkah, phone 5862 3066.

The addition of her latest exciting new dimension to her business is no exception, with Kim O’Keeffe recently launching her own collection of fashion jewellery, ‘Hush’. Kim said, “With my training and wholesale business going strong I wanted to lift the retail component of my retail area and salon and a range of fashion jewellery seemed the perfect fit to complement my makeup and salon. “Initially I put in a small range to complement our new season lipstick and nail polishes and it proved very popular. “I have now extended the range which includes a fashion range of stunning colourful pieces as well as a classic range of leather, pearl and crystal jewellery. “Another addition is our range of lab diamond jewellery which looks and wears like real diamonds at a fraction of the cost. Hence the inspiration for the name, ‘Hush’. I do everything possible to provide great products and service and I’m also fortunate to have great staff including my Salon Manager, Shannon Brown-Shepard who work to help me achieve this. “Having my own brand gives me the opportunity to bring products to the market place that are of the highest quality and at affordable prices.” For more information, contact Kim O’Keeffe Nail and Beauty at Shop 10, Wyndham Mall, 294 Wyndham Street, Shepparton or phone 5821 3301.

THIS action packed sequel adventure sees Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) wrestle with his inner demons while contending with monsters of his own creation. The story in Iron Man 3 picks up shortly after the events of The Avengers. Having previously entered another dimension in order to save New York City, Tony remains deeply haunted by the experience. Unable to sleep, he throws himself into his work with such intensity that it begins to take a heavy toll on both his mental health and his relationship with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Tony has only started to appreciate the gravity of his problems when an enigmatic terrorist named the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) hijacks the airwaves and threatens to bring America to its knees with a painful series of “lessons” that even President Ellis (William Sadler) won’t be able to ignore. Fortunately, Tony isn’t on his own, and with the help of Col. James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and a young boy named Harley (Ty Simpkins), he pieces together the mystery of the Mandarin, whose final “lesson” promises to be the most painful of all. The Adviser together with McDonald’s are giving you the chance to win a copy of the action packed Iron Man 3 along with two $5 vouchers to be spent in store at McDonald’s Shepparton, Mooroopna or Echuca stores.
