It is important to shop local

THERE is nothing more important than shopping locally. Not only does it help to stimulate the local economy and support job growth, but it also helps to back local businesses, which are the lifeblood of any community and its continued success. According to the latest statistics offered on the economy.id profile of Greater Shepparton the 6,326 local businesses help to employ 30,390 residents and generate a Gross Regional

Product output of $3.48B. As a part of that our local industries have an output of $6,792.4M with retail trade contributing $318.6M of that and manufacturing contributing the most with an output on $1,178.8M. The local sales output of the region, which is the output of local industries that is sold to local consumers, businesses and

other organisations, generates $4,541.4M, with construction currently sitting on top of the leader board by industry generating $705M and retail trade generating $$302.7M. With a strong local backing, businesses in the region can continue to thrive, which not only draws in outside trade and tourism but also ensures the future of Greater Shepparton.

POLYCYSTIC ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition, present in 12–21 percent of women of reproductive age. Up to 70 percent of women with PCOS remain undiagnosed. Verdure Naturopathy naturopath, Jodi Campbell said, “Along with so many women, I have PCOS and am acutely aware of how vulnerable you feel when you’re trying to find answers. I am passionate about helping others to feel well

again and use my entire knowledge base in my work as both a nurse and a naturopath to improve people’s health. “At Verdure Naturopathy I run a Ketogenic diet program which is fantastic for anyone but is ideally suited to people who are insulin resistant and have had difficulty losing weight. It is a low carbohydrate, moderate protein eating plan that includes high levels of good fats. “The benefits of a Ketogenic diet include sustainable weight loss, reduced inflammation and improved gut health leading to increased absorption of nutrients from foods that you eat. Clients report less pain, reduced bloating, improved blood glucose levels, reduction in insulin requirements for diabetics and clients do not feel hungry on the program.” Speak to Jodi Campbell at Verdure Naturopathy to discuss her Ketogenic diet program and how it can help you. Have you seen the green shop on Benalla Road?

FRESH FOOD AND EXCELLENT SERVICE… From left, Benalla Road Takeaway café attendant, Rosa Knez, proprietors, Vince and Antonia Tassoni and café attendant, Kazz Dainton. Photo: Alicia Niglia.

By Nicholise Garner A YEAR or so ago I received a text asking me to meet my partner for lunch at the ‘Green Shop.’ I didn’t know where it was and hadn’t heard of it at that stage. The ‘Green Shop’ as he and his workmates affectionately call it, is actually called Benalla Road Takeaway, located just opposite Mitchell Street on Benalla Road. Green in colour and box in shape, Benalla Road Takeaway is a favourite for those (like me) who have experienced its charm. This busy eatery is bright, clean and spacious inside with plenty of tables and chairs and most importantly is buzzing with friendly staff and a huge variety of freshly

made food on hand. Benalla Road Takeaway business owners, Vince and Antonia Tassoni said, “We understand that often people are limited to half hour lunch breaks and we and all of our staff work hard to ensure that there are plenty of fresh and healthy options on hand and that people are being served quickly with time to actually enjoy their lunch break.” The team at Benalla Road Takeaway are consistently reliable, delicious food prepared fresh and ready to go and the staff are happy to prepare something on the spot. Look out for the ‘Green Shop’ at 68 Benalla Road, Shepparton.

ARE YOUR CHILDREN ELIGIBLE FOR FREE DENTAL WORK?… From left, Mooroopna Family Dental Care trainee dental assistant, Kim Harris, dentist, Dr Ryan Kodituwakku, dental assistant, Arisara Nim-La-Or, dentist, Dr Manpreet Kaur and dental assistant, Megan Whittaker. Photo: David Lee.

MANY parents are unaware that their children may be eligible to benefits of up to $1000 worth of basic dental services each (capped over two years). These include checkups, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. Mooroopna Family Dental dental assistant, Megan Whittaker said, “We regularly see families who are unaware that they’re entitled to free dental care. Your child may be eligible if they are aged 2 to 17, if they’re eligible for Medicare and if you or your child are getting Family Tax Benefit Part A or certain other government payments. “With the school holidays coming up,

now is a great time to get the kids in for a checkup, which can help kids to feel comfortable at the dentist and is also an opportunity for preventative dental treatment.” Mooroopna Family Dental welcome Dr Manpreet (Pree) Kaur to the team. Megan said, “Pree is thrilled to be working with families in her hometown. Both Dr Ryan and Dr Pree are great with children and we invite new patients to share their dental journey with us.” Find Mooroopna Family Dental at 8 Morrell Street, Mooroopna. Phone 5825 1240 to enquire about your child’s eligibility or to book an appointment.

School holiday driving; stay alert DURING winter months drivers should be aware of changing road conditions and drive accordingly, and with the school holidays coming up, the community is being urged to take care and pay attention and plan your trips in advance. Slowing down, staying alert and driving to the conditions is even more important when weather and road conditions are poor. On longer road trips allow plenty of time to get to your destination and swap drivers regularly where possible. Transport Accident Commission road safety lead director, Samantha Cockfield said, “During holiday periods, we do see increased traffic volumes and people travelling longer distances, particularly in regional Victoria. “Fatigue and speed are two of the major contributors to fatal collisions on regional roads and we’re imploring motorists to rest up the night before a trip and allow plenty of time to get to their destinations. “If you’re heading off on a road trip you should factor in a rest stop every two hours to stretch your legs or swap drivers if possible.”
