Lovell chases funding for Shepparton stadium continued from front page MS LOVELL said, “A completed Sheppar ton Spor ts and Events Centre will change the face of sport and entertainment in the Goulburn Valley forever by providing first class facilities to local kids, as well as bring an additional 24,000 visitors into the region every year. “Now that Greater Shepparton Council has awarded the final design tender for the project, it is time the State Government stepped up and committed their share of funding to make the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre a reality.” Stage 1 of the project will deliver 3 new multi-purpose courts, a 3000seat retractable grandstand, new wet area amenities, administration hub and a redesigned carpark. Ms Lovell said that a cost benefit analysis of the project found it would create 235 jobs during construction and the additional events attracted by the new facility would inject an additional $12.3M into the Greater Shepparton economy each year.

IT’S the earliest surviving example of a reinforced concrete tower of this design to be constructed in Victoria. Artists Cam Scale and Andrew Davis are the artists behind the magnificent works. $45,0 0 0 for the project was raised through government grants and community fundraising to complete the mural. “It will honour the history of the region and add some colour to the town’s landscape,” Tatura RSL Sub-Branch Mural Committee Chairman, Robert Mathieson, said. “Thank you to all the members of our community for their support and donations, we appreciate each and every person who contributed to make this project happen,” said Mr Mathieson. “The artists have worked so hard, they spent an entire day painstakingly marking out a grid to ensure the painting was perfect, they are brilliant. They have stuck by us since the infancy of this project, from over three years ago until now.” To view the completed mural, visit Tatura’s water tower located on Murchison-Tatura Road, a few doors down from Lagozzino’s Top Pub.

IN the last week, water has once more risen to become a dominant subject in the news with the National Party putting forward surprise motions to amend the Murray Darling Basin Plan that went against the ideas of the governing Liberal Party. With backing from the opposition and the cross benches, the motion was defeated. In response to the National Party put t i ng for wa rd a mend ments to the Basin Plan today, Environment Victoria CEO, Jono La Nauze, said, “The Basin Plan was a hard-fought compromise between multiple states and the Commonwealth. Until today it had bipartisan support. “Removing the 450 gigalitres from the agreement would sign the death warrant for the Coorong and increase the frequency of fish kills and toxic algal blooms.” With the National Party reallocation of portfolios according to those that supported Barnaby Joyce’s appointment, the Water Ministry still under Keith Pitt has been taken out of Cabinet to make room for Bridget McKenzie who picked up a number of all thing's regional ministries with the exception of water. Since we have now passed the winter solstice and head back to summer, concern is being raised over the impact the summer flows to support South Australian licence holders have on areas such as fish breeding, boating, cultural interests a nd deg radat ion of t he B a r ma h Choke. Time will tell if agreement between the states can be reached before we head into su m mer and more importantly, between the coalition partners who ultimately have control over it.

Blindness is no barrier for local artist ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE... Head down to WDEA Works on Wyndham street to view local artist Kody Bothwell’s art exhibition, pictured here with NDIS Art Teacher and mentor, Julia Thomas. Photo: Stephanie Holliday

E M E RG I NG Sheppa r ton a r t ist Kody Bothwell launched his first exhibition, under his business name ‘KB Art & Design’, on June 22 at the WDEA Works Shepparton office, located at 74 Wyndham Street. Kody is a mixed media artist who likes to explore many different forms of art and loves to try new things and to broaden his artwork skills. “I learnt basic art techniques in school such as art layout and different types of paint. I also attended GOTAFE and did a design fundamentals course. I currently work with

Julia Thomas who is a local support worker that I meet with each week to do art classes,” said Kody. Kody lives with Neurofibromatosis (NF1) which is a genetic condition that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue. This has impacted Kody’s balance, speech, eyesight and caused many other difficulties in his daily life. As a result, Kody is legally blind from an optic nerve glioma. “There is a lot to NF1. Throughout my life I have had many obstacles that I have had to overcome but I have persevered to find ways around them. My mum also has NF1 and my family have been a big support, helping me through my battles. If you put your mind to it, anything is achievable,” said Kody. Kody is also a participant of W DEA

Works School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) program where he is supported by his Employment Preparation and Engagement Consultant Reginna Vasi (Reggie). Together they work on developing his art business and getting his name out in the community. “Kody is such a motivated and driven young man. During our first couple of sessions together we were able to put together a plan of what he wanted to achieve, and Kody has been consistently ticking things off the list. I love that he’s forging his own path to employment,” said Reggie. Kody is looking forward to sharing his art with the wider community with this exhibition. “I do art to express my feelings and to prove to the people living with disabilities that anything is possible,” said Kody “Doing art gives me something fun to experiment with and helps get my creativeness out. As soon as I have a pen or brush in my hand, it’s impossible to stop.” Reggie is pleased WDEA Works could support Kody by providing him a space to display and share his art. “We welcome the whole community to come and view the art on display. The pieces on display will also be for sale and Kody is available for commission artwork requests.” she said.

AN ELECTRICAL UPGRADE TO A POPULAR SUMMER VEHICLE... The Electromoke, owned by the Moke Owners Association was a vision in the possible. Photos: Steve Hutcheson

A plug-in Moke ELECTRIC vehicles have been with us for a while. The Electromoke project was first initiated by the Victorian Government in 1982 who invested $18K in the development of a prototype. It was dropped when there was a change in Government. This was well before sophisticated electronics and battery technology had reached anything like we have today. Various government departments tested Page 24 – The Adviser Australia No.1:1566 Wednesday, June 30, 2021

the vehicle however problems with the high current welding closed the contacts in the motor control circuit causing the car to go into full speed ahead. MOVE has one of the original prototypes now ow n e d by t h e Moke O w n e r s Association and on loan to the museum. In the project model, the batteries were so heavy they bent the rear suspension and had limited power storage ability, unlike the

latest technology is providing. The vehicle often ran out of power and had to be towed back home any number of occasions. Perhaps a lack of foresight. Modern day electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla is valued as much as the next three or four car makers combined. The Electromoke will be on display at the MOVE when it opens in August.

Seymour will look to continue its undefeated season when it welcomes Shepparton to Kings Park in the first week of the split round. The last meeting between the teams earlier in the season was an arm wrestle, which the Lions eventually were able to shake off the young Bears. Tip: Seymour.

MOOROOPNA V ROCHESTER

KYABRAM V ECHUCA The second meeting between the 2019 grand finalists is set to be intriguing contest. The Murray Bombers were able to get the job done when the two clashed earlier in the season. Both were able to win last weekend, but the worry for the Bombers was how tough they had to work to shake off the gallant effort of the Shepparton Swans last weekend.

This is a huge game in the context of these teams’ season. The Cats would be gutted by the missed opportunity to consolidate its place in the top six after a heart-breaking one points loss to the Bears. While, the Tigers have put together a couple of important wins to now be sitting in fifth place on the ladder. Tip: Rochester.

4

ROUND 15 SELECTIONS

I think if the Murray Bombers can dictate the tempo of the contest and put some early scoreboard pressure on the reigning premier, I think they can claim the double over the Bombers. Tip: Echuca.

netball Tips R13 SEYMOUR V SHEPPARTON Shepparton finds itself in a huge fight to regain its place in the top six after it was tipped out after its defeat to Mooroopna last weekend. It is unchartered territory for the once powerful Bears outfit. Today’s contest won’t be easy. They come up against the reigning premier. While the Lions haven’t reached the heights of 2019, they are still playing some good netball. Tip: Seymour.

KYABRAM V ECHUCA Echuca announced itself as a genuine premiership contender when it overcame United in an arm wrestle last weekend.

This looms as a huge challenge for the Bombers outfit, which is still chasing their first win of the season and, it will be one too great for them, with the visitors to claim the points. Tip: Echuca.

MOOROOPNA V ROCHESTER Mooroopna is looming large and ready to challenge the top two on the ladder. The Cats are level on points with both United and Echuca, having only lost the one game this season, to United. I think the depth of the Cats will be pivotal in ensuring they get past the visitors. Tip: Mooroopna.
