STRATEGIC SORTING... The ‘GeoSorter’ uses water to move fruit into unique grades and can sort 15-20 tonnes an hour at Plunkett’s Orchards, Ardmona, says Greefa export manager Dick Van De Kop, pictured with part of the system. Photo: Deanne Jeffers.

By Deanne Jeffers PLUNKETT’S Orchards have seen huge growth in jobs and fruit production after a $12.2M capital upgrade at their Ardmona site. The massive project has seen a new wa rehou se t hat me asu re s a rou nd 12 ,000sqm constructed to house a game-changing apple and pear packing facility that Plunkett Orchard’s general manager, Andrew Plunkett, says has “doubled output.” “It’s been great to have the whole thing done locally,” he said at the unveiling last week. “We’ve had new staff join because of this investment, and existing staff are getting new experience. Overall, this means more secure jobs.” Continued Page 9

Silkwater Plains is a planned subdivision of residential blocks. The subdivision is located near serene open plains on the southern edge of the town. It is situated just a stones’ throw from the excitement

of the Tatura Racecourse where the jockeys wear their brightly coloured silks. One of the defining historical features of Tatura is a large water-wheel which can be seen near the roadside as you enter the town.

The subdivision’s proximity to open land, the racecourse and the importance of water to the town, proved to be a unique inspiration for the name of our estate – Silkwater Plains.

Crying out for help THE State Government is under pressure to increase resources for mental health services, including providing a devoted treatment unit, to address growing concerns about youth suicide and a worsening mental health crisis. In her contribution, Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell cited new Coroner’s Court suicide data that revealed 23 Victorian children under 18 years had taken their own life in 2021, and another 70 young Victorians between the ages 18 and 24 had suicided. Ms Lovell said that the Goulburn Valley community has been rocked by the passing of five young people who have taken their lives since November last year, and she sought urgent action from Mental Health Minister, James Merlino to provide additional services

needed to combat the crisis. Member for Shepparton, Suzanna Sheed also called on Health Minister Martin Foley to ensure that a new mental health unit would be funded in the state budget, revealed Tuesday evening after The Adviser has been printed. She spoke about how the pandemic significantly increased the level of distress and prevalence of mental health issues across the state. “A significant investment in a new mental health unit at Goulburn Valley Health has been identified as a high priority for Stage 2 of the redevelopment,” Ms Sheed said. Ms Sheed had been contacted by a 20 -yea r- old constit uent who soug ht assistance to advocate on behalf of young

people who had been unable to get the required support. She said that while Shepparton has organisations like Headspace and many online services, wait times are up to six months or more. Ms Lovell had raised the issue of inadequate mental health services in October 2021, explaining that young people in the North-East who required inpatient mental

health were forced to attend Box Hill Hospital, an inadequate 12-bed facility that services children from Melbourne’s east and the entire North-East region. “While further infrastructure will not alone solve the problem, it goes some way to alleviating the stresses on our current system and on those seeking their services,” Ms Sheed said.

New face for Foundation By Deanne Jeffers SHEPPARTON’S work within the arts sector is set to thrive with a new CEO at the helm of the Fairley Foundation. Vanessa Parry joins The Sir Andrew & Lady Fairley Foundation with more than 20 years' experience and a strong understanding of both grant making and grant seeking organisations within the philanthropic sector. While remaining true to the Foundation’s original mandate, to support programs of disadvantage within Greater Shepparton, Ms Parry has been brought on board to grow arts and cultural programs locally. One example of the Foundation’s work within this area is music education delivered in local public schools.

“The benefits of music and dance education are well documented, with this form of learning known to improve emotional wellbeing, language and social skills, cognition, which flows onto literacy and numeracy skills, and more,” said Ms Parry. “It is really critical to engage young people in school to arts education and I hope to grow the music program while supporting and raising funds for other programs.” Fairley Foundation deputy chair, Carmel Johnson said, “We are delighted to have Vanessa come to us with her vast experience and deep understanding of philanthropy, and knowledge of what foundations and funders can achieve by partnering together.”

Priestly calls for urgent improvements in aged care I N a speech to S ey mou r residents , I ndependent candidate for Nicholls, Rob Priestly, has called on the Federal Government to improve standards of aged care support for older Australians. “There are still long waiting lists to access the crucial Home Care Packages that enable older Australians to remain in their homes for longer, maintaining their quality of life, and keeping pressure off already struggling aged care facilities.” “Thousands of Australians in need of care are going without, or are being forced prematurely into aged care facilities that cost more and diminish quality of life for those who could otherwise remain in their home.” “The major problem is the government’s

failures to address workforce shortages. The people who provide aged care services do an amazing job, but they are too few and being stretched to the limit.” Mr Priestly expressed concern that the government was not moving quickly enough to resolve problems in the sector. “The planned timetable for implementing changes from the Aged Care Royal Commission is too slow. Those in the system can’t afford to wait five years for these problems to be fixed. There just doesn’t seem to be enough urgency to deal with this.” “Elderly people deserve their dignity as much as anyone else and those working in the sector need some help.”

Who will open school now? THEY acknowledged that a crucial emergency exit would need to be removed for six months, which would close the school due to non-compliance and that this, nor the fact that fire trucks and emergency services could not safely reach students, or other safety troubles, are of any concern to Beyond Housing or Wintringham.” “State government MP Mark Gepp had accepted the invitation to open the school only to pull out the next day following Wendy Lovell’s comments about social housing in parliament, which people have taken offence to,” said Shepparton ACE Secondary College senior social worker, Joel Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman re-emphasised that no one at the school disputes the need or importance of social housing, the main issue is they do not agree that any four-storey development

that “looms over the school,” would be appropriate for the location as this impacts the school’s registration to operate. The irony in all this is that Shepparton ACE Secondary College’ new campus and location was funded by a State Government grant along with compensation from the City of Greater Shepparton and this came about because they were forced to vacate a long-term lease at their original premises. Mark Gepp’s office said in a statement, “We had Wednesday in the diary as the day scheduled for me to visit the school. Our advice was that a formal event would be held in coming weeks with a date TBC and we have confirmed this understanding with the Department and the Ministers office today.” “It would seem that there has been some crossed wires somewhere.”

State candidate endorsed SHEPPARTON businesswoman and Greater Shepparton Foundation chief executive officer, Cheryl Hammer, will run as the Liberal candidate for Shepparton in the Victorian State Election this November. Cheryl’s role as CEO of a lead philanthropic organisation gives her insight into challenges and opportunities that are presented to people living in the region. Small business recovery after Covid, choice in education, and better access to mental health services are her top priorities. Ms Hammer was the Liberal candidate for Shepparton in the 2018 State Election, when Independent Member Suzanna Sheed was reelected with 55.3 percent of the vote. A strong contender, Ms Hammer finished with 44.70

percent of the two-party preference vote. With 22 years’ experience in the tourism industry and serving on community boards and committees that tackle issues like food insecurity and homelessness, Ms Hammer will focus on tackling these issues as the next Member for Shepparton. She says major infrastructure projects in need of funding such as the Shepparton Bypass, Stage 2 of GV Health and the Shepparton Sports Centre will be important platforms in the upcoming state election. OPEN OR NOT... The Shepparton ACE Secondary College school community are unsure whether social housing will go ahead or whether the MP arranged to open the college will attend the unveiling this week. Photo: Deanne Jeffers.

“Notwithstanding, my office has reached out to the school directly, indicating I am still more than happy to visit the school as offered on Wednesday of this week.” Shepparton ACE Secondary College will be officially opened at an event on Thursday, March 31 from 5-7pm. There will be live music by Roolya Boolya and Neil Murray, as well as a BBQ and soft drink provided.

SOARING FREE.. Shepparton artist Mark Niglia will unveil his latest sculpture work at the The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show happening now and over the weekend. Photo: Supplied.

TODAY the Southern Hemisphere’s largest horticultural event returns to Melbourne, where Shepparton-based sculptor’s work is on display amongst stunning displays of flora and art over the weekend. The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show will run until Sunday, April 3, after a two-year hiatus. Award-winning artist, Mark Niglia is a finalist within the Arts and Sculpture Precinct in the show. Mark creates a wide breadth of emotion through his horse sculptures, depicting strength, power, and the wild calmness that a horse can possess uniquely in each of his works. Liberta, which means freedom in Italian, is a sculpture bred from the impact of the pandemic and “response of turmoil and forced decisions.” “My work was inspired by lockdown, the endurance of people and how we have changed,” Mark said. In his artists statement, he wrote, “Find comfort in human resilience and spirit as we all rise to become stronger and build strength from our experiences. Fly away and free yourself.” “The show is back after two years, and it is one of the biggest garden shows in this hemisphere. Whether you just want to get out of the house, or you are looking for garden renovation ideas, this is an unmissable event.” For more of Mark’s work, find him on Facebook, Instagram or visit his website www.marknigliasculpture.com. $12.2M investment ‘game changer’ for local orchard By Deanne Jeffers THE elaborate ‘GeoSort’ machine supplied by Greefa, uses water to move fruit through the sorting process gently and special AI technology to learn about the fruit, which is then sorted into upwards of 45 channels based on internal and external attributes that are ready to be packaged. It has invested in a range of projects like MOVE Museum, the Dookie Rail Trail, and more. Nationals' candidate for Nicholls, Sam Birrell, was also in attendance last week. New location for Shepp’s footy destination THIS AFL season is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet, and local institution, Footy Korner-Games World, are well-stocked and ready to go.

For 27 years the store has been the local go-to for licensed AFL products and clothing, puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, games, personalised picture framing, and so much more.

The shop re-opened in a prime, new location in a central part of the Maude Street Mall last year, allowing them ample room to have a much larger range of stock on display and easy access to and from the storefront for customers, even while the Mall upgrade works are completed. Owner John Cooper lives and breathes

footy, and proudly has on display a team photo of Shepparton United at the 1967 premiership. “If it’s footy related, we’ll have it,” said Mr Cooper. “Our motto is you ring, we’ll bring!” Head on down to the store located at 218 Maude St, Shepparton, next door to City Chic, or give them a call on 5831 3823 beforehand.

THREE new exhibitions were opened at Shepparton Art Museum over the weekend, with a full program coinciding with Illuminate and the Shepparton Festival. Art in Conflict is an Australia War Memorial exhibition featuring artists across Australia. Showcasing works of official war artists and contemporary artists who respond to conflict, this timely exhibition explores the unique ways that art can deepen understanding of Australia’s experience of conflict. S A M O pe n 202 2 , Ne w Horizon s is an exhibition made of many locally recognisable names and artworks made by Shepparton, Goulburn Valley and Hume artists, in an ongoing celebration of community and creativity in the region within the museum’s walls. The third exhibition, The Land I See Is Not Elsewhere, by Melbourne-based artist Nusra Latif Qureshi, is a new window exhibition that can be viewed from outside the SAM building. The diverse installation questions the histories and legacies of painting and representation of the land in Australia. Nusra has exhibited art for 25 years and in this work, she has placed special objects with local references and stories to discover, particularly for children

‘YOUR OWN BACKYARD’ H BUCKET LIST

AVE fuel prices got you counting pennies and wondering when you will enjoy your next adventure? You don’t need to worry or to travel far because the Goulburn Valley has plentiful options to enjoy nature in Greater Shepparton and surrounds.

1. CLIMB MOUNT MAJOR IN DOOKIE

Mount Major is popular with walkers and mountain bike enthusiasts. The peak reaches 381m (1251 ft) above sea level and is accessible via Mulana non iyoga (Yorta Yorta for ‘Spirit of the Stone’) – a 4.6km return walk at the mountain's northern side. For a challenge, turn off Dookie Nalinga Road and try the Mt Major TV Road return trail beyond the University of Melbourne sign. The effort is worth the stunning views.

2. RIDE TO THE AUSTRALIAN BOTANICAL GARDENS SHEPPARTON VIA A BUSHLAND PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

Cyclists can now travel easily and safely to Shepparton’s Botanical Gardens thanks to the recently unveiled bike path extension and pedestrian bridge. The site of the Botanical Gardens is former landfill that has been regenerated into a showcase of Australian native plants and distinct themed gardens.

3. EXPLORE LOCAL FREE CAMPING AND FISHING AREAS

This region offers abundant free camping sites, as well as access to waterways for those who want to throw in a line. Goulburn National Park and Shepparton Regional Park are close by or sites like a little further afield, like Lower Goulburn National Park in Kotupna, will transport you far away from home.

4. ORGANISE A TRELLY’S CANOE TRIP

Don’t want to rough it but still itching to explore? Trelly’s Outdoor will do the work and set up an experience for you paddling down the Goulburn. Call Ross on 0488 775 477 to see how Trelly’s can make your adventure unforgettable.

WILL YOU FIND THE REGION’S

OLDEST TREE?

By Deanne Jeffers recently took a long weekend in the Daylesford and Hepburn areas for my birthday. It’s always great to explore a new region, and especially since the start of the pandemic, it is something I try to do often. We had a great time adventuring to waterfalls and lavender farms, but one of my favourite parts of the trip was the abundance of ancient, giant trees. Walking through their old-growth forests makes you believe you’re in a different country and creates tantalising microclimates that cool the area.

I want your help finding and recording stand out trees in Greater Shepparton and surrounds.

Old and tall trees are scarce in the area, and I hope that by raising awareness for our surviving trees we can celebrate and cement the importance of protecting and preserving forests. Are you aware of a tree locally that is old, tall, or that has another feature that you find striking? Be a citizen scientist and reach out to Deanne at deanne.jeffers@ sheppartonadviser.com.au to record your tree.

T

HE ability to have 24/7 access to your home or business security system is invaluable. One thing many of us have on our mind when we leave our homes for a trip is the hope that and vehicles will remain safe and secure. A reliable security system in place to deter thieves is one way to maintain peace of mind and enjoy your break. There are several security measures that come into play and all should be encouraged, however one of the most successful has been shown to be installing video surveillance that sends an alert directly to your mobile phone. Standby Security provide a range of security services to provide all the protection you will want, among them includes a video monitoring service

that is coupled to their quick response patrols. The service sends a signal to their security centre and to your mobile app. An industry pillar with 30 years' experience and verified, security business licensing for expert installation, Standby Security owner, Angelo Kakouros and his team are able to provide professionally insured and installed security systems. If you are planning to travel, it will pay to plan your security well ahead of time by contacting Standby Security now to set out all the measures that will keep your home, business and possessions secure. Available seven days a week, phone 1800 809 579 or visit www. standbysecurity.com.au for rapid response.

GEAR UP L

IVING in regional Australia means it’s no surprise when a rogue kangaroo decides to make a mad dash in front of our cars. As sad as it is, it’s always a good idea to have the added protection of a bull bar in place to protect your vehicle. Bull bars not only protect your vehicle from mishaps and during off-road adventures, but they also allow you to mount winches and attach accessories such as driving lights, aerials and sand flags if you partake in a little dune driving on a beach adventure. Trek Hardware 4x4 Superstore Shepparton are proud stockists of Jungle 4x4 bull bars, which are designed and developed by Trek. CAMPING WITH KIDS N

AME a question more annoying than “Are we there yet?”, I’ll wait. While camping with kids can be painful with packing everything under the sun, spending the car trip as a human vending machine and hearing that dreadful aforementioned question, the memories you’ll make are well worth it. Here are some basic tips for camping with kids, whether it be on a weekend trip or a three-month adventure: • Plan ahead! Learn the area where you’re camping via google so you can work out where to get food if needed, what to pack and what activities/sites there are close by. Check the weather and make a checklist so you don’t forget anything vital. • Prepare meals earlier where possible, like spaghetti bolognese or a curry, meals that are easy to heat up when you arrive. Also think about meals that are easy to cook once at the campsite. • We do live in Victoria, so weather isn’t

always predictable. Make sure you pack indoor games to keep the kids entertained. Some Lego, colouring-in books, puzzles, reading books and magnetic tiles will all do the trick. • Kids can get smelly, right? Consider how you’ll keep them clean, most likely without running water. Load up on baby wipes and sanitiser as you might be skipping a shower if there aren’t any facilities. Alternatively, look into a handy, lightweight camp shower. They’re easy to use and everyone will go to bed nice and clean. • Children have a knack for needing the toilet at super convenient times, like at 3am. If you’re camping in the bush or at the beach with no toilet facilities, a kid’s portaloo is an essential item to bring. Remember to take deep breaths, take in the serenity and make wonderful memories with your family, even if you’re tired from being woken up at 3am for a bush wee.

Parliament Wrap Up

In State Parliament last week, I raised several issues important to the people of the Shepparton electorate. WAIT TIMES FOR SPECIALIST APPOINTMENTS AT GV HEALTH

Last week in Parliament I raised the issue of wait times for patients to see medical specialists at Goulburn Valley Health. I raised the matter after I was contacted by a local constituent suffering from kidney stones who has been waiting for a urologist appointment since March 2020. At the time he was advised he would have a three year wait for an appointment, and when he checked his appointment status, he was told the wait time had blown out to four years and one month, with a likely appointment in April 2024. out other spaces within the centre including training and meeting rooms, a boardroom and a variety of casual hire spaces. For more information on this wonderful business space

This timeframe is completely intolerable for any patient, and I called on the Minister for Health to increase resources to GV Health and take immediate action to decrease waiting times.

MORE FUNDING NEEDED FOR ADDITIONAL CHILD AND ADOLECENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES In October last year I called on Mental Health Minister James Merlino to invest funding to increase child and adolescent mental health services in Shepparton and across North-East Victoria. Unfortunately, Mr Merlino ignored my request for five months, only providing a response to my calls earlier this month. In the wake of the tragic loss of five young Goulburn Valley residents to suicide since November last year, last week I again called on the Andrews Labor Government to provide urgent funding to improve mental health services for our young people. New Coroner’s Court suicide data has revealed that 23 Victorian children under the age of 18 had suicided in 2021 and another 70 young Victorians between the ages of 18 and 24 had also taken their own life.

Our communities have been rocked by the loss of five young lives and the State Government need to take urgent action to provide the additional services needed to combat the mental health crisis currently impacting children and adolescents throughout the region.

SHEPPARTON SPORTS STADIUM REDEVELOPMENT

The Shepparton community know of my tireless advocacy for the Andrews Labor Government to provide its share of the funding for Stage 1 of the Shepparton Sports Stadium redevelopment to create the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre and I raised the project again last week in State Parliament. I have pushed the State for the last five years to fund this project which will create 235 new jobs during the construction phase and when completed will attract additional events that will generate an additional 24,000 visitors and $12.3 million to Greater Shepparton each year. It was fantastic that the Liberal candidate for Nicholls, Steve Brooks, hosted Federal Sports Minister Richard Colbeck for a tour of the stadium and it is great that the project is firmly in the spotlight of the Federal Government for funding. I again sought the $20 million funding commitment from Sports Minister, Martin Pakula and invited him to accompany me on a visit to the stadium to hear more about this exciting project.

RE: UGLY DEBATE MARCH 21, 2022

5822 1555

177-193 Numurkah Rd, Shepparton VIC www.fairleysiga.com.au

I completely disag ree with the information in the article “Ugly Debate” (21st March 2022 Shepparton News) and find it very disappointing that Beyond Housing and Wintringham have completely missed what the majority of the community are saying. All the people that I have spoken to are aware of the housing crisis and believe that more needs to be done in this space. We are not against social housing, but we believe

that this development is in the wrong location. It goes against good planning outcomes and planning rules of both the State and Local Governments. Why are the vulnerable and homeless being housed in concrete boxes? They deserve much better. It is well understood that people are better off when they have houses or units surrounded by green space where they can sit outdoors and enjoy the environment. Blocks of available land have been s u g g e s t e d t h a t wo u l d b e t t e r s u i t development for social housing. This

proposed development will be built on the carpark next door to ACE College which has several vulnerable students but have never heard Whintringham or Beyond Housing speak about the effect that this development would have on those students and teachers, which I find really concerning. They developers mention that they only want the AIR SPACE but to have airspace there must be a building underneath to hold it up. Pylons, staircases, ramps, lifts, etc. will leave little space for car parks. This will severely impact on the precious car parking spaces that are required in the CBD which is something else that has not been considered. Shelley Sutton Shepparton

Chris McNeill's admission in the Shepparton News Letters that his Ethos Urburn report on the Maude/Nixon St car park Proposal (Funny how Edward St was missed) was botched, brings the question of why did council accept this report? Also, the front page comments by Laura Harris and Michael Deschepper from Winteringham and Beyond Housing bring this debate to a very low level. Inflammatory remarks like that are used to imply the genuine concerns of people regarding this proposal are heartless and uncaring. Almost all the submissions contained the message that something needs to be done about the homeless situation in Shepparton and surrounds. It is the narrow-mindedness of solving this by building one massive housing complex which has proved to be bad for all concerned. Small developments around the area are much more sustainable. Yours sincerely, Roger Perry Shepparton Want to have your say? Email your letters to the editor to editorial@sheppartonadviser.com.au Please keep letters to under 200 words.

CORRECTION A MISTAKE was published that said the Regional Centre for Sport Excellence (RCSE) would be fully funded by the State Government a long w it h t he Un iver sit y of Melbourne, Rumbalara Football and Netball Club (RFNC) and the Greater Shepparton City Council. This is should have said that the project is being supported, not fully funded, by the University of Melbourne, RFNC and the Greater Shepparton City Council. Stage 1, upgrading RFNC and constructing the Munarra education precinct, has been funded by the State Government with support from these organisations.

HELPING HATCHLINGS... Tatura Turtle volunteer Yvette Williams pictured holding an eastern long-necked turtle that is hatching from its egg. On the day, this turtle and a dozen others were helped safely to the water. Photo: Deanne Jeffers.

By Deanne Jeffers TURTLE populations are dwindling while dangers thrive. In the wild, there are low numbers of juvenile turtles, indicating that once mature turtles reach their lifespan, numbers in Australia will plummet. Yvette Williams is an agricultural scientist and a member of the Cussen Park Advisory Committee. She started Tatura Turtles two years ago to raise awareness for freshwater turtles who share our community. “Foxes are diabolical. One fox can kill several turtle nests and there’s an indication that foxes teach their young how to extract turtles from nests” Yvette said. “If lots of eggs are laid, more foxes are attracted to the area.” The growing use of mesh over nests has helped deter predators from destroying turtle nests, however, cars and drying habitats are still impacting turtle numbers. “There’s the chance that hatchlings can become entombed in their nests. This is where the ground is so dry that they cannot

physically come out of the ground.” Turtles lay eggs in nests in the ground in November and December, and the eggs hatch around March. The first year, volunteers protected one nest. This year, they are protecting eight and volunteers like Yvette have seen dozens of hatchlings survive and be released into local waterways. “We’re always learning new things and better ways to help,” Yvette said. “If we’re not helping baby turtles into the environment safely and taking notice of our local turtles, we risk losing another important species.” Tu r t le Su r vey a nd A na lysis Tools (TurtleSAT) run a ‘1 Million Turtles’ community conservation program, which rely on citizen scientists to help record turtle sightings to monitor declining populations. There are heaps of ways you can get involved to help local animals. Visit www. turtlesat.org.au for more or follow Tatura Turtles on Facebook for local resources or to volunteer.

By Kelly Lucas THERE is no time to be bored in a country as beautiful as Australia, especially if you are like the Budge family whose experiences, backyard and neighbours change regularly. Having three kids living out of a camper van, home-schooling or as Han refers to it as ‘road-schooling’ has had its hard days, and along the way they have sacrificed a lot to live such a life, but the amazing journey has taken them on many adventures and finally a road to a place, they will soon call home. In February 2020, Hannah Budge and her husband Leighton left the Northern Wheatbelt of WA with their three children Josh (13), Matt (11), and Sam (9), in search for a new home after working and managing farms in the district for five and a half years. With no farm of their own they set out to find somewhere they belonged in their beloved heart country. Just six weeks into their new adventure Covid hit, which forced them to slow down the travels and work on farms across Australia for the seeding and harvest seasons. In such uncertain times, they gained connections and stability on their journey and enough income for the year. Hannah is also a highly creative photographer and blogger, and I had the pleasure of meeting her and her four men

at the Kyabram Rodeo, where I found her sitting behind a fence line, with camera in hand. “Another form of income for us is my photography where I capture families in front of my lens and sell prints of my travel photos. We have also had many incredible wo rk opp o r t u n it i e s f ro m tou r i s m companies, which has given us some of the best experiences,” said Hannah. When asked what one of their top free camps was, the Murray River was high on their list, with Zenettis Beach near Yarrawonga being in their top three, for all of Australia. After two and a half years on the road this family is now heading towards QLD, where they hope to settle in the next six months. “Whilst we are looking forward to putting down roots, we know that this is time we will never have back again. We also no longer say goodbye to anyone, it's always ‘see you somewhere down the road.’ To spend each day with your family (even when they sometimes drive you insane) is never time wasted, and I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.” said Hannah. To follow the Budge family’s adventures head to Facebook and type ‘Han and Her Four Men’.

‘Unreal turnout’ to school event

By Deanne Jeffers STUDENTS at Bouchier Street Primary School were in fine form for Ride 2 School Day, dressed up with their bikes, scooters and even rollerblades for a parade after arriving safely at school. “We’re going outside the school!” children shouted excitedly, waving to proud parents and representatives on site on the day, including Mayor Kim O’Keeffe and representatives from the Bicycle Network, Get Mooving Shepparton, and My Ride store owner, Nathan May, who was checking over bikes and scooters for students. Bicycle Network Ride 2 School coordinator Courtney Mumn said the turnout was unreal. The Bicycle Network works with schools to increase student’s active travel. They
