Shepparton set to gain new Early Parenting Centre

By Deanne Jeffers LOCAL families will have more support in the region with a new Early Parenting Centre to be built in Shepparton. For parents like Mooroopna father, Brendan Redding, a fit-for-purpose centre like this would have been “massive” for his family. In addition to facing struggles many new parents are confronted with, such as the lack of sleep and support, his daughter, five-year-old Demi, was born prematurely. Continued Page 5

BEEP BEEP...Empowr has joined forces with Ganbina and TAC to provide two young Shepparton locals, Virgil Biggs and Chrystal Chapman, access to safe and fit-for-purpose vehicles for the duration of a three month trial which will monitor their driving habits through an app. Photo: Stephanie Holliday

Empowering young drivers By Stephanie Holliday SO far this year, a staggering 20 people have lost their lives on roads across the Hume region, double the amount compared to this time in 2021. The TAC is launching a new trial which will help people overcome barriers in accessing a safe vehicle. The trial will be led by Empowr Mobility – a social enterprise with a mission to improve access to safe vehicles, while developing safe driving

behaviors and habits. Empowr has joined forces with Ganbina, to provide two young Shepparton locals access to a safe and fit-for-purpose vehicle for the duration of the trial. Ganbina participants Virgil Biggs and Chrystal Chapman were given the keys to two vehicles equipped with technology that logs and monitors their braking, speed and phone usage among other driving habits through an app on their phones. Empowering young drivers continued from front page “Ganbina has partnered with the TAC and Empowr for this pilot program to help young Aboriginal people here in the Goulburn Valley establish safe driving habits. The trial will go for three months and the eventual aim is to encourage yout hs across Au st ra l ia to d r ive consciously and safely,” said Ganbina CEO Anthony Cavanagh. "The 'Driver Advantage Program' will connect young, inexperienced drivers with safer vehicles, enabling disadvantaged individuals access to g reater employ ment a nd t ra i n i ng opportunities, which closely aligns with Ganbina’s vision and strategic purpose.’’ Around two thirds of driver and

Trial participant Chrystal Chapman was excited at the prospect of driving a newer model vehicle equipped with safety features. “This is a really exciting opportunity. It’s great how the car I’ll be driving has reverse cameras and other safety features which will give me peace of mind. I will come away from this a better driver, with a greater understanding of how emotions and stress may impact how I drive, and I hope they can use the results to help other young people be more conscious on the road,” said Chrystal.

He became a donor to be a positive role model to his children. “I began donating blood to influence my kids and to show them it’s a good thing to do for the community,” he said. “Today, all three of my kids are donors.” There are 2,709 blood donors in Shepparton and one in three local residents will require blood products at some point in their life. National Blood Donor Week, which runs from June 13 to 19, is an opportunity to recognise donors and inspire others to roll up their sleeve. Mr Wilson, who is in his sixties, is part of the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority’s ‘Lifeblood Team.’ He said, “I think donating blood is a good thing to do. It’s always a positive experience and it’s an opportunity to have a free health check every three months too. I get my blood pressure checked and a good feeling knowing that I am helping someone.” Lifeblood spokesperson Shae Burns said 140,000 more donors were needed across Australia to help save the lives of 1.5M patients nationwide each year.

“From cancer patients to road-trauma victims, people with blood disorders, surgical patients and new mums — blood is needed somewhere in Australia every 18 seconds,” Ms Burns said. “It takes just an hour of your time to donate blood and every donation can help save up to three lives.” “At worse donating blood is a minor needle prick,” said Mr Wilson. “For those who haven’t donated, give it a go. It’s a good way to learn about yourself and to help the community.” To book a donation visit www.lifeblood.com.au, download the Donate Blood app or phone 131 495.

You don’t really know who to ask or where to go.” “To have a place like this in the Goulburn Valley where we can get a bit of support and help ... Stage 4 of mall sees a start WOR K S at t he M aude St re e t M a l l are progressing, with the installation of hoarding at Stage 4 in Stewart Street occurring last week. Gary Randhawa, Council’s director infrastructure, said the recent progress at the mall has not gone unnoticed. “Business owners and communit y members are noticing the fantastic progress we are making in the area, particularly in Stage 2 at the northern end of the mall. “Concreting of Stage 2 is complete, and paving is well underway, with landscaping and installation of structures planned in the coming weeks,” he said. This stage was scheduled to commence next month, however, Council said that

with changes to the sequence of works during Stage 3, it is necessary to erect the hoarding earlier than planned and to begin preliminary works in the area to remain on track for completion by the end of October. With more heavy vehicles accessing the construction site via Stewart Street, the Stage 4 hoardings will help guide shoppers safely around the site while keeping walkways cleaner in wet weather. To improve access to the mall, a new concrete walkway has been installed through the centre of the mall. Works will continue to progress through Stages 2 and 3, with Stage 2 scheduled for completion by the end of July, revealing the finished northern end of the former

There is currently a pedestrian detour in place on Fryers Street and a pedestrian detour and single lane closure in place at the southern end of the mall on High Street eastbound at the Maude Street intersection.

Waterway update Twenty Freshwater catfish (Tandanus tandanus) were released into the Broken Creek last month as part of an effort to re-establish a self-sustaining population. • The fish were between 90mm and 500mm long. • The larger fish were fitted with microchips to identify them and track their movement. • There are plans to release more Freshwater catfish into the creek in coming years to improve the project’s chances of success.

• The fish were salvaged by the Victorian Fisheries Authority from irrigation channels near Mildura. • Another 28 catfish were taken to the Arcadia Native Fish Hatchery, near Shepparton, for brood stock. • Freshwater catfish bred at the hatchery will be released into waterways across the state to support their recovery.

Proudly flying the GMW flag for diversity and equal rights PRIDE can mean many different things. Goulburn Murray Water’s Jenna Morris and Chloe Warburton agree it comes down to embracing diversity and equal rights. “I guess pride means standing up for what I believe in and creating equal rights for everybody,” said Jenna. “Everybody matters. It doesn’t matter your size, shape, colour, gender, sexuality, or your cultural background - everybody deserves respect and to be treated equally,” she added. Jenna is a representative on GMW’s staffled Pride Network and the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) Pride in Water Network. Both have been set up to share resources, raise awareness, build workplace and community connections and a network of allies and leaders. “The reason that I joined was to help celebrate and support the pride community. It is a community that is close to my heart, and I love that I can bring some awareness to the workplace and the community,” said Jenna. Identifying as bisexual, Jenna said it was important for her to promote GMW as a safe and inclusive workplace where everyone is accepted and valued. “It’s also about accepting people exactly as they are and accepting what they stand for. You don’t have to agree with everyone’s choices and views, but you do need to respect them,” she said. Chloe who also sits on the Pride Network said she joined as an ally for the LGBTQI+ community, to be a voice for those who didn’t

feel comfortable or safe to stand up and to drive important conversations and opportunities for education and awareness in the diversity space. “In northern Victoria there’s a lot of small rural towns where there’s often quite prevalent attitudes about LGBTQI people and it can be quite difficult to stamp out, but we just want to show that there are safe spaces and there are safe people to have those conversations, and everyone deserves the right to be equal,” said Chloe. By celebrating Pride Month in the workplace, Chloe and Jenna hope to generate more awareness and conversation around diversity and see the organisation’s Pride Network grow.

Bike patrol launches A JOINT venture between Victoria Police and the Shepparton Neighbourhood Watch Committee was launched last week which will see local police patrolling our pathways and community events on bikes to further ensure community safety. Funding for the Shepparton bikes was provided thanks to Neighbourhood Watch and the initiative will provide a highvisibility presence not only in the CBD but also surrounding towns such as Tatura and Mooroopna. First Constable Georgia Ryan was one of the officers who undertook bike patrol

training. Already an avid bike rider in her own time, she’s excited to hit the pavement while looking out for our community. “This bike patrol program will be great for members of our community to feel safer on walking tracks and around town. There are places we are able to get to on bikes that can be otherwise tricky, particularly at large community events,” said Inspector Bruce Simpson. In total, six new patrol bikes have been implemented, with two allocated to Shepparton and the rest based in Seymour and Benalla.

Piece of history on the move A 100-year-old paddlewheeler, ‘Pride of the Murray’, was recently removed from the Murray River in Echuca and will be transported on a mega trailer more than 1700km to its new home in Longreach. More than 40 people, a 26-metre long and 8.7-metrewide trailer, 700-horsepower prime mover, police escort and nerves of steel were needed to lift the 100-tonne vessel. To add to the complications,

the old wooden boat needs to be kept wet during the trip and be back in the water within seven days. Undertaking the first ever mega marine move in Australia of this scale, with a boat this age, is tourism entrepreneur R ichard K innon of the L ong reach-based ‘Outback Pioneers’. “This is believed to be the largest haulage of a marine vessel this old ever undertaken

in the Southern Hemisphere,” Mr Kinnon said. The haulage team consists of two pilots leading a police escort, with the prime mover pulling the trailer being a 700hp FH16 Volvo rated to 220t. The trailer itself is a 12-line Drake Gooseneck Float, rated at 192t. “Everyone thinks I’m mad. To build a purpose-built boat from scratch would have been a significantly cheaper option but it didn’t meet my own brief

which is for our Longreachbased tourism operation to remain true to history. The vessel will be restored in Longreach over the coming months and it is hoped it will be operational in June. “The incentive for me and the Kinnon family is millions of tourists will get to enjoy riding the ‘Pride of the Murray’ on the Thomson River for another 100 years,” Mr Kinnon said.

White Night spectacular this weekend BIG EVENT THIS WEEKEND...White Night Shepparton Artistic Director Andrew Walsh AM out the front of SAM. White Night lights will visit Shepparton for the first time on Saturday 25 June, in a spectacular visual display across the community. Photo: Stephanie Holliday

By Stephanie Holliday Since its 2002 inception in Paris, White Night has seen cities, both metropolitan and regional, transform into an art spectacular, with each event tailored to reflect each cities’ distinct passions and characteristics. White Night lights will visit Shepparton for the first time on Saturday 25 June, in a spectacular visual display across the community. This one-night-only all ages event will run from 6pm through till midnight. Enriched with a celebration of art and culture to showcase Shepparton’s history, White Night will transform the city through 28 large-scale illuminations, projections, live music and interactive works from talented local, national and international artists. Local artists featured include Mimi

Leung, Aunty Frances Nicholson, Tori Day, Tahnee Day and Dylan Charles, whose light installations, visual art projections and designs will be seen across Shepparton’s cultural spaces. White Night Shepparton Artistic Director Andrew Walsh AM spoke of how the event will be a major drawcard to our region and how each event is distinctly unique to where it is held. “More than a third of artists are Shepparton-based, presenting their works on a scale they've never done before. There will also be international artists, it is a great mix of lots of local talent and those from outside the region,” said Mr Walsh “SAM will be open in the evening also, so those who may not have had a chance to visit yet will be able to enjoy all it has to offer.”

Early detection is key By Kelly Carmody PROSTATE cancer is a diagnosis no man wants to hear and to be truthfully honest neither does his family. My Father was diagnosed with prostate cancer about five years ago and as determined as he was to fight the ugly disease, alongside all the treatments he underwent, sadly in just one short year after detection, the disease took his life. In recognition of my father ‘Barry Lucas’ and that last week was ‘Men's Health Week’ I thought that this may be the perfect platform to get an especially important message across to readers, about how critical early detection can be. It can save lives. If you're reading this and you know a man over the age of 45, ask him this question. Have you had a screening test for prostate cancer?

This person may be your husband, you father, your brother, your friend and by you asking one simple question, may just raise the conversation and put a plan into place. It may also save a life. Sadly, I did not know a lot about prostate cancer before my father was diagnosed and if I did, I would have asked the question for sure. I would do anything to just have a conversation with my father one more time. Each day in Australia 49 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and nine men tragically die from the disease. Prostate cancer can be cured, when detected and treated early, so have this conversation and men, make that appointment with your health care professional, and get tested today.

By Deanne Jeffers MEN can be reluctant to talk about their emotions and that means that they don’t always ask for help. Likely due to this, many men are less healthy than women, drink more, take more risks and suffer more from isolation, loneliness, and depression. Men’s Health Week, June 13-19, is a time to acknowledge the barriers to improving men’s health. Tatura Men’s Shed vice president, Tom Perry, has seen how men are less likely to speak openly about what is going on in their lives. “Interaction creates other opportunities, it promotes tolerance and community,” said Mr Perry. A huge part of getting men to sit down and speak has been offering fellowship meals from the Men’s Shed every Tuesday. Member, Lee Williams, has grown a garden at their shed to feed members. “Everyone takes turns cooking. They can cook whatever they like but we always have veggies,” Mr Perry said. “It’s all about being

a community and supporting one another.” A s well as feeding members and encouraging conversation, the Men’s Shed is a place where men can continue their hobbies or pick up some new ones. Tatura Men’s Shed are award-winning wine makers, they also have plenty of equipment for painting, welding, sawing, and much more, even a 3D printer! Starting 10 years ago with one room, Tatura Men’s Shed now has two sheds. Their next milestone will be building a covered outdoor area that can be used during all weather. “Visit your local men’s shed and see what facilities and equipment are free to be used. There’s always someone to help or train you to use machines,” Mr Perry said. He says that they would like to attract new members to have the shed opened on a third day of the week. Tatura Men’s Shed opens Tuesdays and Thursday at Tatura Racecourse and Recreation Reserve. Annual membership, including insurance, is $50.

Your nomination may find the next Australian of the Year IT’S time to have your say in who will be the next Australian of the Year. The Australian of the Year Awards rely on nominations from members of the public to find individuals who are contributing to our nation and who make us proud. It only takes one nomination for someone to be considered for the awards, but a nomination must be submitted for a person to be in the running. There are four categories in the awards which are Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year (aged 65 years and over), Young Australian of the Year (aged 16-30 years) and Australia’s Local Hero. National Australia Day Council CEO Ms Karlie Brand said nominating someone for the awards was a powerful way to share their story with the nation. “Nominating a person for the awards brings their contributions or achievements to national attention – it elevates their

personal story and allows others to appreciate what they’ve done,” said Ms Brand. “Nominating is a very simple process which can be done online. While you don’t need to know the individual personally, you do need to be able to tell us a little about what they’ve done and why they would be worthy of recognition,” she added. “The Australian of the Year Awards program is based on people appreciating other people. Every announcement of an Australian of the Year started with someone submitting a nomination for them, so the person you nominate could very well be one of our next award recipients,” she said. N o m i n at i n g i s e a s y a n d p u b l i c nominations for the 2023 Australian of the Year Awards are open until midnight 31 July 2022 and can be done online at australianoftheyear.org.au.

Priestly resignation creates vacancy within Council A COUNTBACK procedure to fill a vacancy in Greater Shepparton City Council will take place at 10.30am on Wednesday, July 6, following the resignation of Councillor Robert Priestly. The vacancy will be filled by a countback of all formal votes from the 2020 Greater Shepparton City Council election. Rather than holding a by-election, votes will be redistributed to candidates who were unsuccessful at that general election, and who remain eligible to participate in the countback. The countback is based on the proportional representation method of counting. “The candidate who achieves the quota will be elected. If no participating candidate achieves the quota, following the distribution of votes to participating candidates, the candidate with the highest number of countback votes will be elected,” said election manager, Charmaine Morel. The countback will be held online via webinar. A link to the countback will be

45th Historic Winton wows the crowds

RACING... HW2 on the track with a Jaguar Mini and MG Midget. Photo: Colin Rosewarne Contributed by Gary Turner, president BMC-Leyland Car Club Inc. ON a cool and foggy morning, the BMC-Leyland Car Club Inc, Shepparton and Surrounds Chapter, set off to meet fellow club members from various suburbs in Melbourne to meet us in Benalla. We all drove in convoy, which must have looked quite special to the passing public, to the 45th Historic Winton Motor Raceway. Like in past years, our club received complimentary tickets from the Austin 7 Car Club, and they do not get wasted with many members keen to get their hands on one. The Austin 7 Car Club, who this year are celebrating their one hundred years of Austin 7s, 50 years of Austin 7 Club events, and 45 years of Historic Winton, was a special year to mark. Our club cars consisted of XJ6 Jaguar, Austin Healey Sprite, Austin A70, MGB, Austin A30, Morris Minor Sedan, Mini Cooper, MG Magnette and a Triumph TR6. They were directed to park in Shannon's Special Car Park while a member, who had come up from Tasmania with his Austin 7, parked his car in the Corporate Centre with many other Austin 7 vehicles. After taking our seats on turn one of the tracks, our members settled in for a great weekend of racing, not just by cars, but motorbikes and side cars that were especially exciting. With over 48 events over the weekend, there was action-a-plenty where we saw a few spin outs on the corner. Thankfully no drivers or riders were harmed.

Customer Service Award

Best Marketing/ Advertising Campaign Award

Benalla, Australia. 29 May, 2022. Photo: Karl Phillipson/Optikal There were remarkably interesting racing cars on the track competing in many distinct categories that made the racing as fair as it was entertaining. Cars racing included Elfin, Austin Lancer, Mini Cooper, Ford Special, MG TC, MGB, Austin 7, Marmot, Morgan, MG Midget, Lolita Mk1, Jaguar, Singer, Lotus, Brabham, Vauxhall, Dodge, Wolseley, Alfa Romano plus many more. Motorcycles on the track included BSA, Douglas, AJS, Enfield, Indian, Ariel, Easton, Norton, Triton, to name a few, plus some of the sidecars consisted of BSA, Triumph Thunderbird, Triariel, Triton 650 and a Norton Atlas. History was unlimited, like a moving museum of motor vehicles. Apart from many of the pre-war sports and racing cars, there were also prewar touring cars who engaged in a healthy rivalry between the drivers and their vehicles at each meeting. One of the special highlights of the day was Shannon's display cars, who did a parade lap. The Austin 7’s led the way followed by many of the display cars, buses and trucks. In fact, the display laps by the vehicles covered the whole track from the start/finish line and back again. This gave the public a fantastic look at the diversity of cars on display, seeing them travel around and not parked in a static display. www.bmcleylandcarclub.org/

Choice and control over your support THE region will benefit from a new NDIS provider arriving in Shepparton, bringing more local support and backed by the wider network of Infinity Coordination and Supports Pty Ltd network, based around regional Victoria and New South Wales. "We are very excited to have already begun servicing the Goulburn Valley area,” said support coordinator, Tamara Hayes, who is based out of Mooroopna. Tamara has an extensive background in case management, working with people of all different ages, as well as HR experience with a NDIS service provider. “I had the opportunity to build and create a new NDIS business in the Greater Shepparton area, which gave me a lot of insight into NDIS.” Infinity Coordination currently offers support coordination services and will soon commence domestic assistance,

personal care, and community access support as a registered NDIS provider. “We are strong believers in participants having choice and control over their support and how they receive assistance for their needs. Sometimes a provider can take that away from a participant, but it’s important to remember that this is the participants life we are assisting them with, and we want to allow them choice and control over how they get to live their life.” “We are in the process of hiring staff now, so anyone that is interested in receiving any of our services should contact us, and one of our amazing and caring staff members will contact them to discuss their needs,” said Tamara. WITH interest rates having risen 75 bps in less than six weeks, along with an expectation the cash rate could reach more than two per cent by December 2022, borrowers are in for an education. Interest rates have been decreasing for approximately 11 years and now a considerable proportion of borrowers are seeing mortgage repayments increase for the first time. Property prices are falling slightly in some areas after two years of rapid growth, and many homeowners are looking at whether they will be able to afford their home loan repayments and what their financial position looks like moving forward. Since the interest rate rises, Loan Market Broker Mike Timothee has been remarkably busy answering both existing and new client calls and having meetings with borrowers to help them navigate the changing interest rate scene, reprice, and refinance their home loans, or, in some cases, lend some comfort and support. “It has been hectic talking to a lot of my clients about how to manage their new interest costs. Strategies they can use to reduce their debts, and as a result, reduce the overall interest cost, manage the levels of exposure, and attempt to obtain the best result for them. I am spending a lot of time doing this at the minute,” said Mike. Clients need to understand that there are many options available to them, and Mike can show them what the impact will be from a one per cent rate rise on their mortgage and what that means to them on

GVL Netball Round 11

The visitors have only had the one win in 2022 but despite that, coach Ellie Warnock will be warning her players to be on their game today. Bree Poole and Karly Wappett had great games in goals last weekend in the six-goal win over Rochester while Bridget Hill was solid down in the defensive half of the court. Tatura will turn to Molly Kennedy and Taylah Lloyd to continue their good form and their battle with the Euroa goalers will go a long way to deciding who wins the battle. Tip: Euroa.

By Sam Saracino

SHEPPARTON UNITED V SHEPPARTON SWANS Shepparton United will be looking to continue its good form which has seen them jump into the top two. The Demons know that they can’t rest on their laurels as Euroa, Mooroopna and Echuca are waiting on the wings to pounce on any slip ups. Last weekend, the Demons were strong in pushing past fellow premiership contender Echuca. Both sides played without some of their regulars due to illness and unavailability. That said, the Demons were able to get the win and they will look to young defender Olivia Kirby, coach and mid-courter Kara Blizzard and star shooter Jesse Barnes to lead the way. The Swans had their bubble burst last Sunday against Mooroopna after five straight wins. Coach Courtney Simpson knows her team needs to put their loss behind them and focus on today’s contest. Shinea Sali, Klarindah Hudson, Ella Cirillo and youngster Emelia Mercuri will be important if the Swans are turn the tables on the Demons after losing to them on the opening day of the season. Tip: Shepparton United.

ECHUCA V BENALLA This should be an interesting match-up for different reasons. Echuca is looking to bounce back from its loss to Shepparton United while Benalla is looking to continue its winning form after scoring an upset win last weekend at home against Shepparton. Jacquelyn James, coach Steph Vick and Bianca Willis will be some of the key players that will need to have good games. Vick will be one of the players returning to the line-up after missing last week’s loss to United. She hopes a few other regulars return to the court to help

CONGRATS TO THE CATS… For the first time in its 20 year history, the Mooroopna Cats won the shield in the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation game between Shepparton Swans and Mooroopna Football Netball Club. Leading Senior Constable Glenn Gibson with a Shepparton Swans player on game day. Photo: Supplied

curb the influence of the likes of Sally Washfold, Hayley Martinello and Chloe Hill. Tip: Echuca.

MOOROOPNA V SHEPPARTON Mooroopna will be looking to consolidate its place in the top half of the ladder when it welcomes seventh place Shepparton. The Bears missed an opportunity to jump into the top six when upset by Benalla. They potentially get another chance to leap into the six if they can overcome the Cats and their arch rival, Shepparton United does a number on the Swans. Standing in the way of the Bears will be the likes of Dayna Williams, Shelby Britten and Maddison Wong. All three were outstanding in the win over the Swans and if they can continue that form, then the Cats should be in front at the final whistle. Tip: Mooroopna.

EUROA V TATURA Euroa is looking to consolidate its place in the top six when it takes on Tatura.

SEYMOUR V MANSFIELD In a battle between David and Goliath – Mansfield faces a tough ask against ladder leader Seymour. The Lions have only lost the one game this season while the Eagles are winless. For mine, if the likes of Courtney Aldous and Sarah Szczykulski are able to dictate from the defensive third and set up the attacks, then it could prove a very tough day at the office for the visitors. Tip: Seymour.

ROCHESTER V KYABRAM This should be a fantastic game of netball between two teams who still have plenty to play for despite the fact that they won’t feature in the finals. The home team pushed Euroa all the way last weekend, only to go down by six goals while Kyabram had a strong win over Mansfield. Madison Egglestone and Eloise Cuttriss were two of the key contributors in the narrow loss. Kyabram has put up a really good fight against more fancied opponents in Shepparton and Euroa in recent weeks and if Liv Hall, Jemma Hall and Carly Whitford can help the visitors replicate that form, then they can walk away winners. The last meeting between these two teams on Good Friday ended in a draw. And, this game is likely to be tight as well. Tip: Kyabram.

Shepparton United will be desperate to chalk up its second win of the season which would potentially lift it off the foot of the table. The Demons have shown glimpses of what they are capable of this season, but the challenge is doing it for four quarters. Coach Paul “Hair” Serra will be hoping his boys can start well and then take their opportunities when they have the run of the game. The Swans put up a fight in the BlueRibbon match last Sunday. And if, Bryden Squire, Isaiah Jones, Diesel Batey, Mason Pedretti and Quade Johnstone continue their good form, it will put the visitors in good stead to chalk up win number three. For the Demons, they will look to Ed Adams, Kyle Clarke, Kaedyn Napier, Sheldon Bogdan coupled with the experience of Jamie Atkinson and Shane Sali down back to keep the visitors to a losing score. contest, then they can run away with a comfortable win. Tip: Mooroopna.

EUROA V TATURA The Euroa juggernaut just keeps rolling on and today’s opponent will find it difficult to go the distance. An under-strengthened Bulldogs outfit was well beaten by Seymour last weekend. Coach Paul Kirby knows his boys are giving effort, but it is just a case that they coming up against some really good teams, who have stronger lists. Lachlan Hill, Jett Trotter (six goals), Jack Hellier, William McIntosh and Jacob Gleeson will be the Pies trying to continue their good form and if they do so and curb the influence of the likes of Tom Sullivan, Chris Ryan, Comanche Walls, Mitchell Elliott and Billy Cooper, then the Pies should make it nine on the trot. Tip: Euroa.

SEYMOUR V MANSFIELD The stakes are high for both Seymour and Mansfield. A win for the Lions could send them into the top six for the first time since the opening couple weeks of the season. The Lions have won their past four games and a win against Mansfield would no doubt be the pick of those victories. That said, the Eagles are keen to stay in touch with the top two and come into the contest off the back one of its best wins of the season at Kyabram last weekend. Skipper Brett Mahoney, Ben Christopher, Sam Thomson, Harry Mahoney and Tom Dunstan will be looking to continue their good form and if they can and keep the likes of Todd Lawrence, Ben Rigoni, Nathan Beattie, Lachlan Waite and Nicholas Davey at bay, then they will feel confident of victory. Tip: Mansfield.

Echuca is flexing its muscles and is proving every bit the team we all thought would be the team to beat for this year’s title.
