Now’s the time for home maintenance & revitalisation THE arrival of spring not only means the end of winter and onset of warmer weather, it is a time of new growth and heralds the need for home owners to take a look at maintaining and revitalising their properties. Archicentre Australia says it is important for all property occupants to maintain the lifestyle qualities they enjoy and want to continue enjoying in the coming year inside and outside. This is particularly important for those looking to sell their home during the busiest time of the year in the property markets. The national architects advisory service stresses that a well-maintained property makes for a healthy, happy and comfortable lifestyle, and enhances property value. Archicentre Australia director, Peter Georgiev said, “This annual process is a must for all residents, including renters, owing to the health, safety and lifestyle benefits. “Architects have an important role to play in this process as they are ‘general practitioners’ of the building industry and fully understand buildings and the way they interact with site attributes. “While many simple maintenance and spring cleaning tasks should be carried out by occupants, assistance should be sought from building professionals, such as architects, for assessment of constructional matters.”

wooden walkway DIY

DO you have an area in your garden where you wish you had a walkway? Perhaps it’s a muddy area that is in between your lawn and where your garden shed is. Well in a few simple steps you can build your own wooden walkway and it won’t break the bank. • Pick up some reclaimed wooden boards. You may already have these on-hand laying around your yard or tucked away in your shed. If not, ask around. You would be surprised at how easy they are to come by.

• Give them a quick sanding and you can even apply a lacquer to make them look like new again. • Level the pathway area where you wish to have your walkway and remember to dig lower than the two ends of where your walkway is going. • Lay the boards down loosely in place. This enables for easy lifting for carefree weed removal. You can also add a few rocks surrounding the walkway. And there you have it. Simple right?
