eeting on the school bus in Year 7, Maddie and Sam were good friends before Sam disclosed to Maddie’s mum at her 17th birthday that he didn’t want to be just friends anymore. They shared their first kiss that night and were officially a couple by New Years Eve, over ten years ago. Since then, they have welcomed their beautiful son into the world, and he was able to be a part of their special day. “We are very family orientated and had my grandmother bless our wedding rings and say a few words during the ceremony and had our grandfathers sign the registry. We also had our son come down the aisle and we were introduced at the closing of the ceremony as ‘The Tyler Family,’ which was beautiful,” said Maddie. “Everyone says the day goes so fast, and they’re right. Soak up every moment. rom the moment Kaitlyn and Maurie met, they got along like they had known each other for ever, they had so many things in common, loved a good laugh and had the same goals for the future. Kaitlyn even allowed Maurie creative freedom with the ring design after selecting a jeweller she loved the designs of. “I wanted something special that had meaning, both our rings comprise of white gold and yellow gold. My engagement ring includes our birth stones and is engraved with our song, and it is asymmetrical,” said Kaitlyn. As a unique wedding favour, guests were gifted a box of matches labelled ‘perfect match’ and custom tic-tacs printed with ‘mint to be’ featuring a barcode with the date of their wedding. In terms of planning a wedding, the couple have this sage advice, “Set a plan for what you want your day to look like, what is important to you as a couple and make goals for when each thing needs to be done. eah and James are high-school sweethearts who have been together for over 11 years. They eloped and made sure the day was done their way and that they had fun. There were a few sweet, unexpected touches to the big day. “We were surrounded by butterflies at our ceremony, it was so special that they came and visited us,” said Leah. “Our day was set against a backdrop of rolling hills and a gorgeous landscape. fter many years together, Luke and Tilly McCluskey were married in a beautiful, intimate garden ceremony with their nearest and dearest in March 2022. In a bid to give Tilly a truly special and unique engagement ring, Luke entrusted the team at Diamond Storm Designs to help guide him through the ring designing process. So, what prompted Luke to design a ring for his love rather than buy a mass-produced piece? “I just think personally designing a ring makes it that little more special. Initially, I thought Tilly and I would design something together. However, once speaking with Craig Blizzard, I felt confident to design something truly special that could be a surprise for Tilly,” Luke said. “I can’t imagine being able to create something as lovely and special as we did anywhere else. I would highly recommend anyone thinking of proposing to go in and chat with Craig, Kara and Lyn at Blizzards Jewellers. ally and Dyl met in year 8, but the timing wasn’t right. Plus, his muscles weren’t big enough yet. “I wasn’t looking for a relationship much to Dyl's disappointment, so I kept shrugging him off,” said Sally. “It wasn’t until he left school and I was in year 12 that we met again, and as Dyl puts it, he grew some muscles which caught my attention. I was hook, line and sinker from then on.” Married at Trawool Estate, the highlight of their day was the ceremony, presided by Allison Durling of ‘till death with Durlo’. “We raffled off who would be our witnesses, obviously it was a predetermined result, but both our grandpas thought they were the luckiest people at the wedding. When it came time to sign, we drew two names out of Dyl's hat and our grandpas were over the moon, two out of 135 odd people and they were selected to witness our marriage, it was so fun!” Sally said her dress was simple but a perfect reflection of her, as was her ring that Dyl chose on his own. Sally and Dyl both advise couples to try and get 20 minutes to themselves on their wedding day to let it all soak in. “The day flies by so darn quickly so it’s nice to sit back and reflect on what an amazing day it has been, before the night is over.” @ Alicia Flegeltaub Photography

hile weddings seem to be all about the bride, it’s important to remember the groom is equally as important. Organising the mens’ suits well ahead of time is vital, equally as imperative to ensuring the entire bridal party looks their best. Paul Jerome, suit guru and owner of Talisman Menswear, has provided our readers with a guide to getting it right with suits. 3 MONTHS AHEAD The vision held by the bride and groom is of the utmost importance. While it’s fine to have some input from the rest of the bridal party, the day belongs to the main couple, and the final say is in their hands. Booking an appointment to see Paul at least three months in advance, without anyone else’s influence, is the first step. Paul can discuss what fabrics will ensure comfort for the season, what would work best with your theme and how the fit of a suit will best flatter the groom’s physique. Make sure when drafting your initial budget for the nuptials, you allocate sufficient funds for all the suits, tailoring and accessories. Scrimping on suits sticks out like a sore thumb. “Fashion is for today, style is forever,” said Paul. “Think of what is timeless, what will photograph well and don’t be a slave to Pinterest boards. There’s no use wanting a suit someone wore to a beach wedding in Bora Bora when you’re getting married in the middle of Winter.” 6-8 WEEKS AHEAD Saturdays are for the boys, but any day will do. Book in an appointment at least this much before the week of the wedding to have all the male members of the bridal party measured, and for a final decision on what colours and

style of suit will work for everyone. Paul offers an in-house tailoring service, unique to the region, meaning the suits are purchased from Paul and tailored to each gentleman. WEEK BEFORE WEDDING Having a final fitting in store is vital, there’s no bigger disaster than suits not fitting right on the morning of the big day. On that note, lay off the extra beers or extra bench presses in the weeks after your first measure and fitting to help make sure the suits fit as accurately as possible for the wedding.

orilee and Trent met at a 21st birthday party and have known each other for over 10 years. Wearing a breath-taking red strapless gown, Lorilee was walked down the aisle by both her parents. “Our wedding to us was a very special day. We loved everything about it. For my wedding dress, I always imagined a princess style or ballgown and not your usual traditional wedding dress,” said Lorilee. The beautiful floral arrangements were made up of native flowers, and Lorilee has a simple and elegant ring that she can wear day to day and Trent has a gunmetal-toned ring which suits his style. “Trent and I were together for nearly 10 years before we were married, as we had so much world travelling to do beforehand. ulia and Brook met in their first year of university in Bendigo and have been together for 11 years. “We were both living on campus and noticed each other within the first week, and the rest is history,” said Julia. Julia wore a vintage-inspired, beaded lace gown and cherishes her custommade engagement ring and simple gold wedding band that matches Brook’s. They danced the night away with a playlist courtesy of asking each guest to nominate a song of their choice. Six weeks out from the big day they had weekly dancing lessons, providing them a chance to take a breather and enjoy each other’s company. “Our advice to couples getting married would be to not allow the planning of your wedding day to overwhelm your relationship.
